ANDRUS TRANSPORTATION NEWSLETTER
AT ANDRUS WE ARE
AMERICAN PROUD!
I
want to take this month to
clarify a message that I had
sent out earlier this month to
the drivers via QUALCOMM and
the office staff via email. This is
in regards to Alcohol and
Drugs. My purpose was to make
sure everyone understands our “0”
tolerance of these substances on
or in our workplaces. This includes Offices, Trucks, and all
other properties/yards Andrus
Transportation uses. Why you
might ask do I bring it up? For
several reasons, it doesn’t take but
a minute to turn on the news and
see the path of sorrow and destruction that these substances
leave behind when they are in our
systems behind the wheel of a vehicle. Some may argue that if
they are below the limit allowed
that its ok. “NO” it’s not ok, if
you are in any kind of an accident
even with a legal limit you may
lose everything. Also there are
over 400 other employees along
with their families that depend
upon Andrus Transportation to
provide employment. “1” person
could ruin that for everyone
else. Another reason is I have had
the opportunity to help clean up
the St. George as well as the Las
Vegas yards. First it is hard to see
all the trash piled up, everyday
drivers go by garbage cans at customers, truck stops and also some
at our yards. How is it that it finds
its way to the ground. What’s
more concerning is the kinds of
garbage one finds. Alcohol containers!
This is unacceptable! Now let me be clear, I have
every confidence that 99.5% of
our drivers & employees do not
litter, also 99.5% of our drivers
and employees do not come to
their employment while under the
influence of drugs and alcohol. I
want to thank you for that. For
the other .05% it is time to clean
up your act! If there is something
more I/We at Andrus can do to
provide you with the means to not
only enjoy your employment, but
to also have PRIDE in your work,
please do not hesitate to let me
know. I THANK YOU FOR
ALL YOU DO!

ROBERT MARTIN
R
obert Martin joined Andrus just a little over two years ago. He
started as a team driver but now drives the 11 western states as a
solo. He is one of those people that you meet that you’ll never forget. He
always comes in to the safety office and says hi to us gals. We love
when he brings his wife Carol in and we especially love when he brings
in her baked treats. She is an amazing cook! Thank you Robert for all
you do here at Andrus, we hope to have many more good years to come.
As always, drive safe!

A
s a management team, we
have to manage many aspects of the business to remain profitable. Profitability keeps
the business running and provides
increased benefits to improve the
quality of life for our drivers. The
second largest expense to be managed
is fuel. During this time of year fuel is
one of the most difficult expenditures
to manage because of the daily high
temperatures. Here are a few tips to
assist you in maintaining low idle
without sacrificing your health and
comfort.
1. When possible, drive between
9:00 am and 10:00 pm. Approximately 1 hour prior to stopping
for the night, run the air very cold
in the cab. Then close the curtain
once you stop to keep the cool air
in the living area.
2. Attempt to schedule your breaks
or sleep time in higher elevation
areas, such as, mountain passes.
3. Use a fan to circulate the air.
4. Keep yourself Hydrated. Water
regulates body temperature.
5. Ensure that the engine is turned
off anytime you exit the truck,
even for a few minutes.
We appreciate all of our drivers and
our primary concern is your safety
and health. Following this advice
will provide you the time needed to
ensure proper sleep and comfort.

hen you have 13 drivers that practically
run themselves it makes dispatch
easy. Mary Faulkner “gets” to work with the
slip seat pipeline. Mary plans their loads and
they all work hard together to make sure that
their loads run on time going the extra effort
and pushing themselves to make sure it happens. With everything that could go wrong on
this run they are the ones that make it
work. They communicate well with each other
and Mary. They are all a joy to work
with! They are the following drivers Jacob
Worster, Sean Mckenzie, Marquis McCluney,
Julie Iacono, David Thurston, Richard Holley,
Mark McEvoy, Frank Walters, Holly Tyrrell,
Brad Sorenson, Stephen Pearson, Tony Oliver
and Nate Alldredge. It wouldn’t happen without these guys/gals!!! Thank you for all you

teach him how we have fun

and Nampac to name a few and I have just taken over the planning of NNV and NCA/BAY areas.
I find when I am traveling I watch for An-
drus trucks on the road and count how many I
see. Our drivers deserve respect for the job
they do every day. I grew up between Hurricane
and Las Vegas, I have also lived in TX and WA.
I am an avid animal lover and have 2 dogs Har-

transportation industry. I
have held several positions

ning being by favorite. Outside of work I enjoy being involved with anything that has to
do with the arts. I love to write poetry and
continue to develop this talent since my high
school English teacher is expecting me to
write a novel one day. I also enjoy camping,
eating at new restaurants, going to new places
and love, love, love to watch football. I love
spending anytime with my family, and am always planning things we can do.

Compliment from Rhea de Dios / Rocky Mountain Pet
I just confirmed with the warehouse and I just have to say KUDOS to you guys, very awesome. Your driver
apparently got all the paper work from the CDFA when he passed thru the border and got all documents
needed to deliver. We are all good and thank you for actually making it way easier for us. Not only did we
not incur cost, on our side, same with yours as well. Thanks again for being a great carrier. I will be requesting from our trucking department Andrus in hopefully many loads to come J. Great teamwork guys!
Compliment from Teresa Mullins / Coca Cola High Country
Thank you. Love when you guys get loads. Always on time and early. Appreciate you for that.
Thanks to Brandon Lewis in the Brokerage Department
“GREAT JOB” Compliment from Victor Casas / Kapstone
Jamie,
I gave you a lot of loads yesterday, You came through like a champ! Thank you very much for taking
care of us .
Goodbye , Old Friend
O
n the morning of July 4th, JP Patterson passed away suddenly from a
stroke. JP began working for Andrus in 2013 as a flatbed driver. In recent
months, JP took care of our SLC terminal yard.
JP kept our yard, lawns and facilities looking in top shape but most importantly,
JP was a joy to work with and made us laugh. JP leaves behind his wife
(Barbara) and four daughters.
There will be a celebration of John's life held at the LDS Chapel located at
10375 South Leilani Drive in Sandy, Saturday, July 25, from 11 am to 1 pm.
Goodbye JP, you will be missed!
