Monthly Virtues for October and November: Trustworthiness and Respect As part of O’Quinn’s character education program, the school will place emphasis in October on teaching the children about being trustworthy and whom to trust. Teachers will help them learn the importance of being honest to friends and adults and will discuss the concept of “stranger danger” in a positive and productive way. In words that speak to all the little ones, trustworthiness is doing what you say, and saying what you do. In November, the focus will be on Respect. Children will learn about honoring themselves as well as caring for the rights of We are the Dazzling Dolphins! 2 October 1, 2015 Staff Birthdays October 10 Corin Stockton October 11 Suzanne Masters October 13 Katie Sellers October 15 Kim Martin October 29 Marsha Freudenberg November 16 Betsy Reid November 24 Suzanne Mueller November 24 Kendall Murray December 6 Ann Johnson December 15 Peggy Scypinski December 22 Bliss Shurlds Future Parents Guild Meetings Please join us for Parents Guild meetings in the cafeteria at 8.30am: October 14 November 17 December 16 Contact Us President Tanis Mann [email protected] Vice President Amy Florez [email protected] Secretary Mandy Cutler [email protected] Treasurer Megan Farr [email protected] Assistant Treasurer Linsey Dudley ldudley@newcharleston properties.com Past President Becca Weil [email protected] others. Teachers will model behaviors for the children emphasizing polite manners and courtesy, teaching them that behaving with respect can create a more peaceful and orderly environment. For the little ones, being respectful is using nice words and taking care of both your own and others’ things. Importantly, the children will be rewarded for demonstrating virtuous behaviors through the Dazzling Dolphins program. If they are “caught” being responsible in October and respectful in November, they will have a chance to choose a small prize from the Dazzling Dolphins fish bowl in the main office. Meet O’Quinn’s French Teacher ! My name is Céline Poillion and I’ve been enjoying teaching French at O’Quinn for about 15 years. I was born and raised in the suburb of Paris. I lived there until I met my husband who came from Texas to work for a year in France. We got married in Louisiana, where he is from, and then moved to beautiful Charleston. We have two wonderful boys who are 12 and 6 years old. When we are not busy with soccer, Scouts or chess, we enjoy going to the beach, kayaking or just hanging around the house. We share our house with our sweet cat Whisper, a dove and a lizard, oh and two hermit crabs, but the boys have been asking (constantly) for a new puppy. So we hope that Santa hears their request! Teaching and sharing my language with your children has been so rewarding and an amazing experience and I feel very lucky to be the French teacher at the O’Quinn schools. At this young age, the key is to help your child develop an interest and an ear for the French language, and this is my objective. I want them to see how fun it is to learn different words, repeating and using them. I also want them to discover and become more curious about the world and the different cultures. When I think of French, the first word that comes to mind is Fun! So let’s keep having more and more fun learning this beautiful language. Merci et à bientôt.
