from Lake Ontario and swim up the
Ganaraska River to spawn annually
anytime from late March until early
May, or October until mid-December.
These fish can weigh from 2 lbs up to
20lbs and as many as 18,000 have
migrated up the Ganaraska in the
past. They have a life expectancy of
8-10 years and are able to spawn
annually once they are mature.
Rainbow Trout generally spawn 4-6
times within their lifetime.

Chinook and Coho Salmon migrate
from Lake Ontario and swim up the
Ganaraska River anytime from midAugust until early October. The fish can
weigh from 2 lbs up to 40 lbs and have
a natural life span of approximately
2-5 years. The populations of Chinook
and Coho Salmon are sustained
through natural reproduction (no
hatchery salmon are present). For both
species of salmon, once they spawn,
they naturally die. Annually about
5,000 to 10,000 salmon migrate to
their spawning grounds.
