“We’ve used Allsteel products in other locations,
and they’ve stood the test of time. We’re happy
with the durability and functionality.”

CHALLENGE
Safelite AutoGlass is the United States’ largest vehicle glass
repair and replacement company, with 11,000 associates
throughout the country. Over the past five years, they’ve
doubled their business and continue to grow. At their
corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, the company
wanted to create a new work environment that could adapt
to change in a sustainable way. After considering new
construction and relocation, the company chose a phased
expansion into the building next door, beginning with a
28,000-square-foot renovation on one floor to house four
departments with over 130 workers.
Describing their business as People Powered, Customer
Driven, the Safelite project team sought transparency
and a visual connection between business leaders and
associates. They wanted the new space to reflect their
mission and enhance communication, with the ability to
adapt to changing workstyles and individual preferences.
The company put a high priority on sustainability, specifying
recycled and energy-efficient materials.
SOLUTION
GAINS
Because they focus on their people first, Safelite AutoGlass
designed their new space to be flexible, to allow
heads-down work while enhancing collaboration. They
combined elements of a traditional office structure with a
contemporary open plan, arranging offices in the center so
natural light could reach the workspaces. Beyond frameless
glass movable walls reflect the company’s emphasis on
transparency. Used for private offices and conference
rooms, they offer a unique solution to manage a growing
workforce. Lower panels with glass screens allow light and
communication flow. Clarity task chairs bring clean lines and
adaptable comfort to conference spaces.
Safelite AutoGlass’s new work
environment is positioned for growth.
This long-term investment by Safelite in their people and
facilities began with the selection of comfortable, high-quality,
adaptable furniture. The new space incorporates LED lighting
and unique carpet that contains recycled plastic from the
inner layer of windshields. “It’s a great feeling to know we’re
walking on recycled windshields,” says Randy Randolph,
Vice President, Real Estate and Market Development.
• With Beyond movable walls, offices
and conference spaces are based on
the same dimensional footprint so
furniture is interchangeable and can
be easily reconfigured.
• Stride workstations with Involve
storage accommodate more people
per square foot, incorporating
innovative features that improve
collaboration.
• The design of the new work
environment is based on the
functions of the workers, allowing
associates a choice of where and
how they want to work.
• Prospective associates are
commenting favorably on the
contemporary plan. “The new
workspace helps us compete for
top talent and represents our
culture well,” says Randolph. “It
will undoubtedly help us maintain
our status as one of the area’s best
places to work.”

E XPERIENCE
Safelite AutoGlass assembled a project team at the beginning
with weekly meetings to assure better collaboration and an
on-track project. Employees were given an opportunity to review
the design and use the seating before product selection was
finalized.
Having worked with Allsteel on previous projects, the company
had confidence in the products, people, and the process.
Beyond movable walls added a new element, though. “The
product was new to us, and we were impressed with the ease of
installation,” says Randy Dupler, Principal, Dupler Office.
Safelite AutoGlass’s renovation incorporates the elements of
glass and transparency to highlight their business and reinforce
their corporate culture. They responded to growth with a
thoughtful expansion that shows the focus they place on their
people, supporting the way they work now with the ability to
adapt in the future.
“We’ve given our people a much more
energetic, bright work environment.”
