Phoenix Coyotes
• The 2008-09 campaign marked the Coyotes’ best season at Jobing.com
Arena since the building opened in 2003 as they posted a record of 2315-3 on home ice this season. The 23 wins at Jobing.com Arena tied for
the third most home victories in one season in franchise history and the
most since the 2001-02 season.
• Coyotes Captain Shane Doan recorded a career-high 31 goals and
finished with 31-42-73 while playing in all 82 games to lead the team
in scoring for the fifth consecutive season. In addition, Doan also
appeared in his second career All-Star Game; won the Elimination
Shoot Out at the NHL SuperSkills competition; became the franchise’s
all-time leader in game winning goals (44); took over sole possession of
second place on the club’s all-time games played list (965) and tied
for third place on the club’s all-time points list (623); became the third
player in franchise history to record nine consecutive 20-goal seasons
and registered back-to-back 70-point campaigns for the first time in his
career.
• Matthew Lombardi and Scottie Upshall were among the six players
acquired by the Coyotes at the March 4 trade deadline. In the 19
games following the deadline; only Shane Doan scored more points
(8-11-19) than Lombardi (5-11-16) and Upshall (8-5-13). Lombardi’s
46-points (14-32-46) on the season tied his career-high, while Upshall set
new career-highs in goals (15), assists (19) and points (34) this season. He
scored eight goals in 19 games with Phoenix after notching seven goals
in 55 games with Philadelphia to start the season. Petr Prucha, who was
acquired from the Rangers, collected 2-8-10 after joining the Coyotes to
rank fourth on the team in scoring during the final 19-game stretch.
• Zybnek Michalek led the NHL with 271 blocked shots this season while
appearing in all 82 games. In his first three seasons with the club (200506 to 2007-08), Michalek averaged 152 blocked shots per season, a
number it took him just 45 games to reach this season. Over the past
four seasons, only four players in the NHL have more blocked shots than
Michalek’s 725.
