Pink Aid
time line Pink Aid. Funding Breast
Cancer Support Services for
Local Women in Need.
When a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer,
she needs a lot more than medical help. She needs
rides to and from treatments, babysitting, meals, wigs, recovery garments and much more.
Many women in and around our communities
cannot afford to go through treatment with the
proper care and dignity. Many also need free
mammograms to help with early detection.
Pink Aid is a grant-based organization that helps
fund local groups that provide compassionate
services to uninsured and under-insured women
with breast cancer.
Pink Aid’s first year grant recipients were Norwalk
Hospital Smilow Family Breast Health Center and
St. Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound to support
women with breast cancer. In our second year, we plan to fund these programs and more!

We are thrilled to welcome Hoda Kotb as
our featured speaker. Kotb has been hosting
the fourth hour of Today since it debuted
in September 2007, and currently co-hosts
alongside Kathie Lee Gifford. Kotb has also
been a Dateline NBC correspondent since
1998, and is a New York Times bestselling
author for her book, Hoda: How I Survived
War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer and Kathie Lee.
In 2010, The Today Show received the
Daytime Emmy for “Outstanding Morning
Program.” Since Gifford and Kotb teamed
up, the fourth hour of Today has been called
“appointment television” by Entertainment
Weekly, and “Today’s Happy Hour” by USA Today.
Kotb has covered a wide variety of domestic
and international stories across all NBC News platforms as well as numerous human-interest stories and features. These
include an in-depth look at the aftermath
of Hurricane Katrina on its one-year
anniversary, the war in Iraq, the conflict
between the Israelis and Palestinians in
the West Bank and Gaza, and the War on
Terror in Afghanistan. Kotb has been the
recipient of many awards, including the
prestigious Peabody Award and four Emmy
nominations.
Kotb is a breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed
in March 2007, she shared her story on
Today in October 2007, and has since been a
part of many initiatives to raise awareness
about the disease.
For over 50 years, in the tradition of our parents /
grandparents, Ed & Norma Mitchell, we have
strived to give back to our community.
We are honored to again be a part of this year’s
event and salute everyone today for their support
of Pink Aid. Having lost our mother/grandmother
many years ago to this disease and two years
ago a beloved sister-in-law to breast cancer, our
involvement is especially meaningful.
