Last October, at our diocesan convocation of priests Bishop Lynch made an historic and
unprecedented announcement. Over his 20 years as our bishop, the diocesan savings and
loan has recovered from being in the red when he first came to being in a very healthy
position in the black. After consultation with the diocesan financial council, he decided
that some of those earnings should be given back to the parishes of the diocese. They
would be apportioned according to the census of each parish and thus we received
$109,000.
I asked our financial council for their opinion about how we should best use these funds
and the clear consensus was that these monies should be used for the upgrading of the IT
infrastructure of the school and parish and for the renovation and enhancement of our
parish grounds. This recommendation was ratified by our parish advisory council and since
then we have been planning these projects. Here is a summary list of what has and will be
accomplished over the next few months.

Bishop Lynch Shares His Thoughts
Regarding the Episcopal Transitions
YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW
On May 27, 2016 , my seventy-fifth birthday, I
will forward a letter to the Holy Father asking to
retire as bishop of St. Petersburg after having
reached mandatory “age limit” for bishops. That
letter is sent to the Holy Father’s representative in
the United States, our Apostolic Nuncio. He
forwards the letter to our Congregation of Bishops in Rome who will then
decide how it is to be handled.
I hope to serve through to my birthday
in May and as long thereafter as it takes to find a successor. I pray the diocese
can receive new life and new energy as soon as possible. I am already praying
for my successor and will ask you to do the same as the time approaches. +RNL

Almighty and all loving God,
Eternal Shepherd and Guide,
we are grateful for Bishop Lynch
and his twenty years of ministry in our diocese.
During this time of transition, we trust in Your love,
confident that You will once again give to
the Diocese of St. Petersburg

Christ’s heart of mercy,
His voice of hope and hands of justice.
Guide our new bishop to enlighten
our hearts and minds with the truth of the Gospel,
the power of the sacraments,

Summer break next week. Normal
service will resume after Labor
Day. In the meantime there will be
no midweek choir rehearsal but
members of the choir who are still
‘in town’ may continue to support
our song with theirs.

continuing education for CPAs and attorneys.
It will be presented at Bethany Center on

FOR MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYERS
A message from Geoff DeGroot, New York Yankees Player Development:
There are a few minor league baseball players (mostly members of the Tampa
Yankees) who are in need of housing in the Tampa Bay area. They are
having trouble affording housing here in Tampa because they are sending the
majority of their monthly earnings home to their families in Latin America. They will potentially be
here through the end of the 2016 season (ending in September). If a family is willing and able to take in
one of our players, they will be granted free admission to Tampa Yankee home games and will get to
make a huge impact in these players' lives. We also feel that if one of your families does decide to take
in one of our players, he could be a huge influence and role model for their kids(if you have any). If

El Obispo Roberto Lynch nos Comparte sus Ideas sobre la
Transición Episcopal
Me gustaría compartir con usteded un esquema del proceso que
será utilizado para seleccionar el nuevo Obispo para esta
maravillosa Iglesia local a la que llamamos “ La Diócesis de St.
Petersburg.”
El 27 de mayo de 2016, día en el que cumpliré mis setenta y
cinco años, enviaré al Santo Padre solicitando mi jubilación
como Obispo de St. Petersburg, por haber alcanzado, la “edad
limite” obligatoria para los obispos. Esta carta es enviadaal Nuncío Apostolico, representante
del Santo Padre en los Estados Unidos. El reenviará la carta a la Congregación de Obispos en
Roma la cual decidirá como será manejada. Espero continuar en mi servicio hasta que se
encuentr un successor, pero oro para que la Díocesis pueda recibir vidat y nueva energía tan
pronto sea possible. Yo estoy orando por mi sucesor y les pido a ustedes que hagan lo mismo

El Día de los caídos en guerra o Memorial Day es una
fecha conmemorativa de carácter federal que tiene
lugar en los Estados Unidos de América el último
lunes de Mayo de cada año, con el objeto de recordar a
los soldados estadounidenses que murieron en
combate. Inicialmente fue establecido para
conmemorar a los soldados caídos de la Unión
americana que participaron en la Guerra Civil
estadounidense, aunque tras la primera guerra
mundial fue extendido para rendir homenaje a todos
los soldados estadounidenses fallecidos en las guerras.
30 de Mayo , el Día de los Caídos sirve como una oportunidad para hacer una pausa
y recordar los sacrificios de más de un millón de soldados que dieron sus vidas para
asegurar las libertades que disfrutamos en nuestro país. Al recordar nuestros caídos,
capturados, o los hombres y mujeres de servicio que faltan, también expresamos
nuestra gratitud a aquellos que actualmente están defendiendo nuestro país. Además
de reconocer los sacrificios de todos nuestros miembros del servicio, rendimos
homenaje a las familias de los caídos, así como a nuestros guerreros heridos y sus
familias. Para estas familias - los esposos y esposas, hijos e hijas, madres y padres todos los días es el Día de los Caídos. Todos nosotros como los estadounidenses
debemos tomar tiempo para recordar que las libertades que disfrutamos se deben a

Yankees. Hay algunos jugadores de béisbol de la ligas menores que están en
necesidad de vivienda en el área de Tampa Bay. Están teniendo problemas para
poder pagar una vivienda aquí en Tampa porque están enviando la mayor parte
de sus ingresos mensuales a sus familias en Latino América. Ellos
potencialmente estan aquí hasta el final de la temporada de 2016 (que termina en
Septiembre). Si una familia está dispuesta y es capaz de tomar a uno de nuestros jugadores, se les
concederá la entrada gratuita a los partidos de juegos en casa Tampa Yankee. Si hay cualquiera persona

El Papa Francisco explica qué es
la santidad y propone 4 elementos
Para el Papa Francisco la santidad no se compra,
no se gana con las propias fuerzas, sino que es
“simplemente de todos los cristianos” y aquella
“que debemos hacer todos los días”.
En la Misa que celebró en la Casa Santa Marta, el
Pontífice dedicó la homilía a la santidad. "La
santidad no se compra. Ni la ganan las mejores
fuerzas humanas. No, la santidad sencilla de todos los cristianos, la nuestra, aquella que debemos
hacer todos los días – afirmó el Papa – es un camino que se puede hacer sólo si lo sostienen cuatro
elementos imprescindibles, a saber: coraje, esperanza, gracia y conversión". Francisco comentó la
lectura del día de Pedro, que definió como un “pequeño tratado sobre la santidad”, que es
“caminar en la presencia de Dios de modo irreprochable”.
Coraje:
“Este caminar, la santidad es un camino, la santidad no se puede comprar, no se vende. Tampoco
se regala. La santidad es un camino en la presencia de Dios que debo hacer yo: no puede hacerlo
otro en mi nombre”, dijo.
“Puedo orar para que el otro sea santo, pero el camino debe hacerlo él, no yo. Caminar en la
presencia de Dios, de modo irreprochable. Y yo usaré hoy algunas palabras que nos enseñan
como es la santidad de cada día, esa santidad –digamos- también anónima. Primero: coraje, el
camino hacia la santidad requiere valentía”, explicó.
Esperanza:
Sobre esto mismo, manifestó que “el Reino de los Cielos de Jesús” es para aquellos “que tienen el
coraje de ir adelante” y a su vez es movido por la “esperanza”.
Gracia:
“La santidad no podemos hacerla nosotros solos. No, es una gracia. Ser bueno, ser santo, dar
todos los días un paso adelante en la vida cristiana es una gracia de Dios y tenemos que pedirla”.
“La valentía es un camino. Un camino que se debe hacer con coraje, con la esperanza y con la
esperanza y con la disponibilidad de recibir esta gracia. Y la esperanza: la esperanza del Camino”,
expresó Francisco.
Conversión:
El Papa habló también de la importancia de cambiar el corazón: “la conversión, todos los días:
‘Ah, Padre, para convertirme debo hacer penitencia, darme golpes…’. ‘No, no, no: conversiones
pequeñas. Pero si tú eres capaz de no hablar a espaldas del otro, es un buen camino para ser
santo’”.
“¡Es así de simple!”, dijo para concluir. “Yo se que vosotros nunca habláis mal a espaldas de los
otros, ¿verdad? Pequeñas cosas… Tengo ganas de criticar al vecino, al compañero de trabajo:
morderse la lengua un poco. Se hará un poco grande la lengua, pero vuestro espíritu será más
santo en este camino”. Por tanto, “el camino de la santidad es sencillo. No volver atrás, sino ir
siempre adelante. Y con fortaleza”, terminó.
