Message From Mrs. White
Parents, if your child is going to be
absent from school, please make sure that
you notify the office. You can leave a
message at anytime on the main line
847-824-1451. If a child is absent, we can’t
assume that you are aware they are out of
school. If we do not receive notification of
the absence, we set up an automated phone call to inform you of
the situation. Should you not call us back, the child is marked
unexcused, which could lead to truancy issues down the road. A
few years ago, the State of Illinois changed the law regarding
truancy. A child is now placed in “chronic truant” status of he/
she is absent more than 5% of the school days in session. We
truly appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Meet our “Principal For A Day” Kennedy Young!!! Miss
Young was the Spring Fling
student raffle winner and
completed her assignment on
Thursday, April 23. She began
her day leading the morning
announcements, helped the office
staff make some decisions, worked
on the newsletter with Mrs. White,
helped kindergarteners in the TILE, and visited classrooms and
specials. Congratulations Kennedy on a job well done!!! See
the full set of pictures on the following page.
Ms. Zachwieja’s CHIP students tried their hand at
building bridges. The children conducted extensive research
around the best plans for these structures. They were limited to
using only three materials when building. Upon completion, the
students tested their bridges for strength. In the picture on the
left, students are excited to
find that their first bridge
was able to hold over 40
pounds.

At the beginning of each month, Cumberland students are presented with the

Cougar theme for the month. We would like to congratulate the following March Courageous Cougars:

Greetings from the CumberlandPTO!
“Spring Fling” – SUCCESS!
Thank you to everyone who attended the Spring
Fling! The fundraiser brought the community
together for a fun evening and helped raise money
for our school. Congratulations to all our raffle and
silent auction winners, and 4th grader Kennedy who
won Principal for the Day. All other student raffles
were drawn on Monday, and they are cashing in
prizes with their teachers over the last month of
school.
PTO Openings for 2015-2016
Vice President 1 - OPEN
Vice President 2 - OPEN
For the 2015-2016 school year, the PTO has two
vacant positions on our board. The positions
available are for Vice-President 1 and VicePresident 2. Both positions require that you be able
to attend a majority of our Tuesday PTO board
meetings and help with the major events and
fundraisers throughout the year. If you’ve
considered the PTO in the past, now is the time. We
would love to have some new members on board to
share their ideas and expertise. If interested, please
contact Jen Tabor at [email protected].
Playground Painting Etc.
We are putting ideas together for painting and
freshening up the playground. We are going to ask
local stores for donation of basketball and soccer
nets. Please get in touch with us if you can help with
donations, ideas, design, or artistic skills. We’re still
in the planning phase so everything is flexible.
Contact Jen Tabor at [email protected] if
you are interested.
