New flexible motorised traffic doors
designed for rigid door protection
in a cold environment.
The thermal difference on the freezing room openings make reacte materials and fonctionnement which is
difficult to handle.
The development of the Frigo range
have been done with internaly in our
own cold room laboratory and externaly with 120 doors from 1994 to
1999, before we can offer it to all
end-users.
To protect rigid insulating doors from
impacts you must open them all the way
to allow traffic through. But cold storage
requires short opening times. You need
a light high-speed door which would resist impacts and be flexible.
Conventional flexible door curtains open
the full bay width to let traffic through
and are rolled-up around a drum fitted
above the lintel.
Nergeco’s freezer and cold storage test lab
Nergeco's R&D have introduced a genuine novelty, using several horizontal
stiffening tubes to press the flexible curtain sides firmly into the vertical guides
on both sides.
1st asset: curtain is airtight on
both sides.
2nd asset: resistance to air pressure is
evenly distributed
3rd asset: the closing curtain is firmly
guided and pressed into the sides requiring no heavy bottom beam
4th asset: the curtain is entirely safe for
pedestrians
5th asset: the soft-sprung bottom and
support-tubes take up any impact without damage to curtain (patented Nergeco system).
Upon door activation warm air meets
cold air. As a result an ice layer seizes
the door and prevents the curtain from
unrolling smoothly upon closure. The
only solution would be to provide a
heavy bottom beam to pull the curtain
down, but this would be very dangerous
for pedestrians and traffic and easy to
crash upon impact.
Application n°1
Frigo 1 to separate two cold storage
areas both below freezing point. Nergeco high-speed roll-up curtain designed for short opening times. The curtain is rolled down very quickly to
maintain an airtight barrier between the
two below freezing point areas, without
any danger to passing pedestrians nor
damage in case of impact.
Application n°2
Frigo 2 to separate cold storage above
freezing point from room temperature
area. As airtight as an Frigo1, but additional insulation properties provided by air
cushion welded between flexible
double skin. Owing to the additional insulating layer the curtain is not rolled-up
but folded-up quickly through a Nergeco
system providing low heat and cold loss
and maximum airtightness.

Frigo 3 to separate cold storage below
freezing point from refrigerated or ambient above freezing point areas. Provided with highest insulation properties
through two air cushions welded between
a
triple
flexible skin. Further
designed for protection against warm air
uptakes
at
top
through special patented Nergeco system.
Nergeco's flexible fold-up system (patented design) provides a
soft-sprung curtain bottom which is safe for personnel and prevents
damage from traffic impact.
Utilization : Airtight separation of
two below freezing areas at different
temperatures, without high temperature
barrier requirements - to prevent air
drifts while facilitating high-speed traffic.
Operation :
Upon activation the
curtain is rolled up into the central canopy at 1.2m/s. As soon as traffic has
passed the curtain is unrolled again
quickly through the freezer type motor
and servo-controlled devices.

Description : The Nergeco Frigo 3 curtain is made of triple polyester fabric with
double PVC coating on both sides to remain
flexible in freezer environment - food safe
for occasional contact. Extremely high insulation properties with k index of 1.2 through
double cushion with air trapped between
welded seams. When closed the curtain
provides a tight barrier at the top through
narrow fitting under the central canopy, a
flexible bottom section for tight seal with
floor and curtain sides pressing firmly into the
narrow guides. Frame with patented narrowing inside structure.

safe for occasional contact. High insulation properties with k index of 2.4 equivalent to double-glazed windows,
through double skin curtain with air
trapped between welded seams. When
closed the curtain provides a tight barrier at the top under the central canopy,
a flexible bottom section for tight seal
with floor and curtain sides pressing
firmly into the guides.
Operation : The curtain is folded up
under the central canopy and folded down
as soon as traffic has passed. Activation is
wear free since the curtain is held deeply in
the guides and friction is kept to lowest values.

In relation to conventional curtain systems
the innovative Nergeco design - using several
horizontal stiffening tubes to press the
flexible curtain sides firmly into the vertical
guides on both sides and tighten it horizontally – greatly increases peripheral curtain airtightness. Nergeco Frigo 1, 2 or 3 models further differ from conventional systems by their
insulation design to adapt to various temperature barrier requirements.
With an initial cold storage temperature of 0°C,
the temperature would never drop below -12°C
with a special-freezer vertical strip door, yet
reach –18°C within 1h20mn with a Nergeco
Frigo1 door and within 55 minutes only with a
Nergeco Frigo3 door. Cold storage data: volume 28 m3, bay dimensions 1.8 x 2.3 m,
cooling unit 2.5 kW, outside temperature 10°C.
According to our experience thermal shock
upon entering cold storage leads to unexpected material reactions and behaviour which
are always difficult to control.

Nergeco statment
Established since 1981 the Nergeco company
is essentially focussed on its trade which is to
create, manufacture, install and maintain
flexible motorised traffic doors adapted to
each industry’s requirements and uses. With
5% of turnover invested into R&D, 55 original
patents and a turnover of over 100 million FF
Nergeco has been successfully introduced at
the Paris stock exchange and presently supplies over 4000 customers in over 20 countries worldwide - directly or through appointed agents.
Starting at –20°C, after one hour of handling
traffic followed by 1h30 with the door closed
without any traffic, power consumption for
the above experiments was 48.4% lower with
Frigo 3 and 21.5% lower with Frigo 1 in relation to power consumption with the
vertical strip door. Cold storage data: volume
28 m3, bay dimensions 1.8 x 2.3 m, cooling
unit 2.5 kW, outside temperature 10°C.
Existing cold insulation
With a cold storage temperature of -25°C and
assuming traffic is 1 activation per minute, after
one hour the temperature was found to be
-6°C with a vertical strip door, -14° with a
Nergeco Frigo 1, and as low as -17° with a Nergeco Frigo 3 door. Cold storage data: volume
28 m3, bay dimensions 1.8 x 2.3 m,
cooling unit 2.5 kW, outside temperature 10°C.
