Enforcement on the
Water
The owner, person in charge or person on board pleasure
craft shall give an officer or inspector all reasonable
assistance and produce any document, or provide them with
any information, required for the administration of the
regulations.
You should also know that some boating offences can result
in fines to both the operator of the boat as well as to the
person (owner) who allowed the operation of the boat.

Members of the MRC Memphremagog boating safety
patrol are designated as enforcement officers for the
purposes of pleasure craft regulation (Canada Shipping Act
2001), and authorized by the Director of Criminal and Penal
Prosecutions of Quebec to issue violation tickets, concerning
the following federal regulations:


The boating safety patrol is also authorized to enforce the
following by-law through delegation of authority by the
municipalities bordering Lake Memphremagog :

By-law concerning nuisances and intended to prevent
infestation by zebra mussels and other exotic invasive
species (municipal jurisdiction)
Provincial regulation

By-law concerning the protection of the waters from
discharge from pleasure crafts (provincial jurisdiction)
The Memphremagog Regional Police and the Provincial Police
SQ would like to inform users of small craft that regulations exist
concerning noise on the lakes which they patrol.
you are boating.
These rules are there to ensure quietude in the whole population.
We ask the cooperation of the lake users to ensure tranquility of
the neighborhood, especially when boats are anchored in a bay.
Those who contravene the noise-related regulation could be
fined.

 Operating a power-driven vessel:
(1) without a muffler that is in good working order
(2) equipped with a muffler not conform
 Operating a vessel to tow a person on water or in air :
(1) without seating space on board for every person
being towed
(2) without a person on board other than the operator
keeping watch on every person being towed
 Operating a boat :
(1) in a careless manner, without due care and attention
for others
(2) without taking all reasonable steps to ensure the
safety of every person on board

IMPAIRED DRIVING
While navigating, the sun, wind, heat and water are important
factors that considerably enhance the effects of alcohol.

A BOAT DRIVER IS SUBJECT TO PENALTIES

while his ability to operate a boat is impaired by alcohol
and/or drugs; or

having consumed alcohol in such a quantity that the
concentration exceeds 80 mg / 100 ml of blood

 Any boat owner must be able to present a valid washing
certificate or user certificate

Provincial regulation
 Any boat equipped with a fixed or portable toilet must
have a water-tight holding tank and be emptied to an
emptying station

 Any person who empties or causes to have emptied the
holding tank elsewhere than at the emptying station

 Any discharge (organic, liquid or solid) coming from a
pleasure boat constitutes an infraction

* Discharge excludes kitchen and laundry waste water ("grey water") and
