Bericht des Präsidenten
Dieser Sommer war sehr
heiss und tocken, für
Urlauber an den Badestränden gerade richtig,
aber für die Gärtner und
Landwirte beinahe eine
Katastrophe. Die Blumen um unseren Biergarten sind von der
heissen Sonne beinahe
verbrannt. Wenn es weiterhin so warm
bleibt, sparen wir an Heizöl während des
Oktoberfests. Die Vorbereitungen für das
kommende Oktoberfest sind voll im Gange
und wenn ihr dieses Nachrichtenblatt lest
ist das Zelt bereits errichtet. Dieses Jahr hält
Octoberfest Inc. ihr “ Rock the Tent” nicht
in unserem Zelt. Unsere Gruppen können
3
darum ihre Buden in Ruhe aufbauen.
Der Vorstand beschloss, eine neue, vergrösserte Mixdrinkbar, von Mike Brasch
bauen zu lassen, damit unsere Gäste auf ihre
Getränke nicht warten müssen. Neue
Heizungsrohre sind bereits für das Zelt
eingebaut. Die alten Rohre waren zum Teil
beschädigt und mussten bei Regenwetter
immer ausgepumpt werden.
Das neue Toilettengebäude auf der Farm ist
fertig und benutzbar und wir werden uns
jetzt bemühen, dass wir endlich die
Legalität unseres Campingplatzes zum Ende
bringen.
Noch einige Bekanntgaben:
Am 15. September halten die Chöre ihr
Winzerfest.
Oktoberfest beginnt am 5. Oktober und
ended am 13. Oktober!
A reminder for the upcoming Events at our
Club:
Am Dienstag den 9. Oktober ist wie
alljährlich der Pionier-Tag im Kitchener
Rathaus (Rotunda).
On September 15th Winzerfest of the Choir.
Am 3. November feiern wir das KlubStiftungsfest in unserer Halle.
Oktoberfest starts on October 5th and finishes on October 13th. Don’t forget on
October 9th is the Pioneer Day in the City
Hall (Rotunda).
Bitte besorgt euch euere Eintrittskarten zeitig und unterstüzt euren Klub.

President’s Report
This years summer months were extremely
hot and dry. The flowers around our patio
suffered from the heat and lack of rain, on
the other hand, a paradise for people camping with the opportunity to take a dip in a
lake to cool off. I hope the weather stays
warm until after Oktoberfest to save on heating fuel. The preparations for the upcoming
Oktoberfest have already started. By the
time you read this Bulletin, the Tent will be
up and Hans with his workers will be starting to setup inside. This year Oktoberfest
Inc. will not be holding their “Rock the
Tent” Event at our Club and our groups do
not have to rush to set up their booths. Some
of the work is already in progress. Hans
Malthaner and his helpers have installed
new heating pipes for the Tent. They should
not fill up with water again on a rainy day.
The new washrooms on the farm are finished and in use.
We can now proceed with the final legalisation and zone change for our campgrounds.

Der Geschäftsführer berichtet
Oktoberfest
Schon seit dem 8. August ist man dabei,
das Festzelt für das
diesjährige Oktoberfest aufzustellen. Unser Hans Malthaner
mit einigen Arbeitern
hatte schon vorher
neue
Heizungsschächte einbetoniert, denn die alten
füllten sich bei Regen mit Wasser und
verhinderten eine Heizung des Zeltes.
Es wird wahrscheinlich nicht mehr
lange dauern, bis alle anderen technischen Vorleistungen auf vollen Touren
laufen werden.
In diesem Jahr findet vor dem Oktoberfest nur eine Ausstellung der Versicherungs Industrie statt, denn Oktoberfest Incorporated hat sich entschieden, die „Rock the Tent“ in einem
anderen Format an einem anderen Platz
abzuhalten. Das wird uns die Vorbereitungen etwas einfacher machen,
denn es gibt uns mehr Zeit und benötigt
keiner radikalen Umstellung.
Ab Freitag, dem 5. Oktober geht es dann
aber so richtig los: dann fängt das Oktoberfest an - Zuerst ein gepacktes Haus
in der Schenke zur Mittagszeit. Um 16
Uhr beginnt man dann schon mit dem
Abendprogramm. In der Halle und im
Zelt fangen wir ab 18 Uhr an. Es fließt
dann der „geliebte“ goldene Gerstensaft
und es riecht nach Bratwurst und
Sauerkraut Natürlich ist man unter

Freunden und prostet sich zu! Es
warten ein paar fröhliche und gemütliche Stunden im Klub, bei denen man
den Alltag mal vergessen kann!
Wie wichtig das Oktoberfest für die
Klubfinanzen ist, kann ihnen jedes Vorstandsmitglied und jeder der Alterspräsidenten erläutern - “unentbehrlich”
ist auf jeden Fall der richtige Ausdruck!
Sei es in der Küche oder in der Verwaltung oder beim Aufbau und ZeltInnenausbau, da spielt sich im September schon sehr viel ab. Von gesetzlicher Seite hat man über die vergangenen Jahre allerlei neue und immer
strengere Anforderungen zu erfüllen
und die Papierarbeit nimmt dabei kein
Ende. Was einmal relativ einfach war,
nimmt zwischenzeitlich viel Zeit in
Anspruch – manchmal hab ich mich
schon gewundert wo das wirklich hinführt. Immerhin wird dadurch natürlich
alles immer teurer, denn jemand muß ja
dafür bezahlen!
Eine unserer größten Herausforderungen ist natürlich wie immer im Personalbereich: wir suchen Mitarbeiter in
allen Abteilungen, denn willige und
kompetente Hände sind jedes Jahr
schwierig zu finden! Zwar gibt es viele,
die sich um die Servier Positionen
bewerben, aber hinter den Kulissen
mangelt es oft! Heutzutage brauchen
viele unserer Mitarbeiter einiges an
Dokumenten zum Nachweis von
bestandenen Kursen, Prüfungen und
Genehmigungen. Bitte bewerben Sie
sich oder senden Sie uns die richtigen
Leute!!
Der Kartenvorverkauf fing zwar schon
im Mai dieses Jahres an, alles ging sehr
gut, aber trotzdem haben wir im
Moment noch eine sehr gute Auswahl
an Eintrittskarten für die „Mitte der
Woche“ Tage! Der Verkauf war in
diesem Jahr noch besser und vor allem
schneller als im Vorjahr - vor allen
Dingen deshalb, weil unser On Line
Verkauf weiter zugenommen hat. Leider
fanden wir aber auch in diesem Jahr
Eintrittskarten, die am Internet zu
Wucherpreisen ($ 75) verkauft werden!!
Jedoch kam uns hier der Gesetzgeber
zur Hilfe und hat endlich mal etwas
unternommen.

Wie in den Vorjahren genießen unsere
Mitglieder einen besonderen Vorteil,

vor am Sonntag und Montag freien
Eintritt!. Bitte bringen Sie Ihre Mitgliedskarte mit!! Am Dienstagabend
wird nur die Schenke geöffnet sein und
am Mittwochabend im Festzelt unterhält nicht nur die Black Forest Band,
sondern auch der Gast Star “Walter
Ostanek”! Da wird bestimmt jeder Polka
Liebhaber besonders gut auf seine
Kosten kommen – schließlich handelt
es sich hierbei um eine Legende!!
Karten hierfür sind für nur $ 10
erhältlich.
Der Klub bietet eine Kontokarte an, die
im Büro bzw. an der Bar käuflich erworben werden kann. Mit dieser Karte kann
der Besitzer seine Rechnung begleichen
und die Karte “langsam” in Teilbeträgen
aufbrauchen.
Unser Kartenvorverkauf am Internet
klappt, seit wir alles auf eine neue
Firma umgestellt haben, sehr reibungslos. Hierbei bekommen die Kunden die
Karten per e-mail nach Hause geschickt
– und diese druckt dann jeder selbst aus
und bringt diese am Tag der Veranstal-
Sonntagsbrunch
Immer wieder werden wir danach
gefragt, ob der Klub während des
Oktoberfests zum Brunch am Sonntag
geöffnet ist. Leider können wir das aus
logistischen Gründen nicht machen.
Ebenso kann am Sonntag gleich nach
dem Oktoberfest (14. Oktober) kein
Brunch stattfinden da das Großreinemachen und der Abbau beginnen.
Vorausbezahlte (Pre Paid) Karte
Der Vorteil gegenüber einer Kreditkarte
liegt auf der Hand: es kommt kein
Kontoauszug bzw. keine Rechnung ins
Haus geflattert, diese Karte ist übertragbar (kann an jemand anders gegeben
werden), die Karte ist wieder “aufladbar” und sie ist auch zweckgebunden.
Als Geschenk ist diese Karte ideal, denn
gegenüber einem Geschenkgutschein
hat man den großen Vorteil, dass man
auch einen Kaffee damit bezahlen kann,
denn der Restbetrag bleibt auf der Karte
stehen und kann beim nächsten Besuch
wieder weiter benutzt werden. Unser
Servierpersonal kann Ihnen zu jeder
Zeit den aktuellen Kontostand der Karte
mitteilen. Man hat also weit höhere

Flexibilität. Karten sind ab $ 10.- an der
Bar in der Schenke erhältlich.
Stiftungsfest Eintrittskarten
Werden ab dem 11. September im
Klubbüro erhältlich sein. Karten für
Mitglieder sind nur $ 22.- und schließen
die Cocktailstunde, das Essen, sowie die
Tanzunterhaltung zu den Klängen der
„Black Forest Band“ mit ein. Bedingt
durch Oktoberfest und anderen logistischen Problemen, können wir Eintrittskarten zwischen dem 4. und 17. Oktober
leider nicht verkaufen.

Oktoberfest
By the time you read this our Oktoberfest Tent will be set up already. As a
matter of fact the tent arrived on
Monday, August 6th and setup started
on the 8th, as there are only 5-6 weeks
to complete the setup with all the electrical, technical, plumbing services,
stage setup, kitchen cleaning and much
more!
This year we will not have the
“Oktoberfest Rocks the Tent” event, as
this function has been redesigned and
takes place at a different festhall. The
only other event prior to Oktoberfest
will the the Insurance Trade show
which will take place on September
27th. All in all, this will give our set up
crew and groups more time and less
headaches to set up the “real event”.
This first day of Oktoberfest will be of
course Friday, October 5th where we
have no problem filling our club to
capacity! We start in the Schenke for
lunch and then at 4pm we continue
with another event in the Hall. Later on
the Tent will open at 6pm – so it is a little staggered and allows us to start up in
stages. As always, socializing will be
the the name of the game and to cheer
with some beer and good food will be
just “natural”. Be part of it and partici-

How very important this event is for our
club treasury should be known by most
members! If you are new, then attend
the annual membership meeting and
you’ll be informed! It’s as important as
ever - that’s why we are working hard to
remain “the” cultural attraction during
the KW Oktoberfest!
Preparations are already underway, be it
in the kitchen, the administration or
general setup inside or outside: there is
a beehive of activities preparing and
getting ready. Challenge this year will
be again to find enough licensed security staff as our government has it very
strict and does not allow just anyone to
be put on a door. However the good
news is that this year we have trained
enough of our own staff to take the necessary tests and therefore only our own
security staff will be working on our
premises. The struggles are not over
though: Other departments also have
staffing problems with similar issues as
our government requires certification
for example from food workers and also
from beverage servers. All supervisors
are of course personally liable in view
of the Occupational Health and Safety
Act. This means in a work accident situation the supervisor himself/herself is
on the hook, our insurance would and
will not cover any fines. There is really
no leeway – our government does come
down hard on anyone! It is really a big
dilemma – and it seems the end is “not
in sight”. Where will this end?
So, our ever growing challenge year
after year is to staff all the various
departments with competent and
trained personnel. This trend has been
more prevalent as our organization
moves into the next season!
Admission ticket sales have been as
good as ever! The pace of sales has
exceeded last years and particularly
since our switch to on-line e-tickets sell
very well. However mid week (Sunday
until Thursday) we have still an excellent supply of tickets available!
Ticket scalping may be less of an issue
this year, because with the arrival of the
e-tickets the game has changed.
Typically an e-ticket is scanned at the
point of entry and once admitted it has
become “void”. Should someone reprint his/her ticket and give it to his
friend or worse – sell it: surely there
will be a problem at the door since
every ticket has it’s own barcode and
the original purchasers name is clearly
printed on the ticket! At such event we
would of course involve the police,
since they are on site anyways.
You, our members of course enjoy the
added benefit to be admitted free of
charge on Sunday and Monday of
Oktoberfest!! Please bring your membership card along, since our staff at the
door needs to see proof! On Tuesday
evening we will be only open in the
Schenke, however on Wednesday night
we feature a polka night with the Black
Forest Band and guest star Walter
Ostanek. “An evening of E-I-E-I-E-IO’s“. Tickets for that night are only $

10.- and are of course available on line
as well. Witness the polka legend yourself and be part of it!!

Every once in a while we get calls of
people wanting to come for brunch on
Sunday during Oktoberfest. Due to
logistics and the nature of the Sunday
(family day) we will not be able to provide a brunch on either Sunday the 7th
nor Sunday the 14th of October. However after that has passed we will be
open as usual!
Pre Paid Account Card
In order to offer more convenience and
choice to our customers we have offer a
pre-paid account card for use in our
restaurant. This card can be purchased
at the bar in the Schenke and offers
some substantial advantages over a
credit card. For instance, since it is prepaid there is no credit check or invoice
to deal with. There are no additional
nor any hidden fees and the card is
absolutely transferable to a friend or
family member. One can use this card to
pay for a coffee at one visit and pay for
a meal the next and so on until it is used
up. Our servers can always advise you
of the current balance on the card. Of
course, the card can be re-loaded again
at any time. Since it is redeemable in
our restaurant it makes the ideal gift for
everyone who visits the club on a regular basis!! Cards are available from $10.and up.

Die Abschlussfeier der Concordia Deutsche
Sprachschule war wieder ein toller Erfolg.
Als Vorsitzende “Deutsche Kultur” vom Concordia Klub, konnte ich wieder die Trophäe (seit 15
Jahren) erhalten.
Es ist enorm zu sehen, welchen Erfolg die
Schüler und Schülerinnen durch die Concordia
Sprachschule erreichen. Ich wünsche allen
Schülern und Schülerinnen viel Erfolg für die
Zukunft und hoffentlich behalten die deutsche
Sprache und Kultur, für ihr weiteres Leben.
Danke auch an die Lehrer und Lehrerinnen, die
jeden Samstag ihre Zeit zur Verfügung stellen.

The Graduation party from the Concordia
German Language School was a tremendous success.
As chairman of the Concordia Club committee
“German Culture” I received a trophy again (for
the last 15 years). It’s wonderful to watch the
students of the Concordia Language School benefit in their life from learning the German
Language.
To all students I wish success for the future and
hope they keep the German Language and
Culture for their entire life.
Thanks to all the Teachers for giving up every
Saturday morning to teach the students.

help with colds, flatulence, nausea, diarrhea, painful
menstrual periods, energy, and circulation(helps those
who feels hot in their upper body but have cold feet).
Cocoa (raw) may decrease blood pressure and improve
cholesterol, and assist with insulin sensitivity. Great
antioxidant, and high in magnesium, which assists in
muscle healing. Also releases endorphins which help

It’s been a difficult July and August for the
Campers, as we’ve had to endure a very long
campfire ban, but very nice to see that
everyone has been complying.
New for this year has been an email
Campers Newsletter which has enabled us
to keep everyone up to date throughout the
summer. If you have not yet subscribed, and
would like to be on the mailing list, please
send an email to

and we will get you on the list.
Our last event of the season, co-hosted with
the Outdoor Group, is the 2nd annual
Halloween Party, and Talent Showcase
which will be held on Saturday September
15th, at the Home on the Range. Last year
was a lot of fun for kids of all ages, and
we’re hoping it will be bigger, and better
this year!
Our annual meeting was on Sunday, August
26th. Election results will be in the October
Nachrichten.

Willkommen zurück zum Bulletin!
Sommerzeit ist immer heiß und Herbstzeit
bringt immer besondere Veranstaltungen.
Der Sommer ist traditionell ruhig für den
Chor. Der Männerchor hat bei der Mutter
des Universums in Mannheim gesungen. An

Ladies Group
I hope that you all had a wonderful hot, hot
summer.
On Wednesday, September 5 we will have
our first meeting after our summer break. At
this meeting the ladies will be signing up for
work during Oktoberfest. If you wish to
have the same hours as last year, please
make sure you come to the meeting.
Also, we hope that you are all working hard
on your crafts for the Christmas Bazaar
which is on Sunday, November 25. Hope to
see you all at our September meeting.

Ladies Trip
On June 6, 20 ladies from our group went on
a wonderful 3 day trip to a beautiful resort
called “Tara“ in Clark, Pennsylvania, USA.
The hotel was decorated in the theme of
“Gone With the Wind“. The grounds were
just beautiful.
With our tour we went to a Slovak Folk Art
Museum and then on to the Avenue of 444
Flags along with 1 Canadian Flag as a thank
you for helping to save the Americans in
Iran in 1979. On our return trip we stopped
for lunch and a canal tour in Lockport, New
York. We also did some shopping at the
Grove City Outlets where you can shop till
you drop.
After a 1½ hour wait at the border we
arrived back at the Concordia Club at 10 pm
where our husbands were waiting.
FRAUENGRUPPE
Am 6. Juni nahmen 20 unserer Frauen teil
an einer 3 Tagetour zu einem herrlichen
Resort, genannt “Tara” in Clark, Pennsylvania USA mit Margaret Whittet Tours. Das
Hotel ist decorriert und ausgestattet nach
dem Film “Gone with the Wind”. Wirklich
eindrucksvoll.
In dieser Tour war eingeschlossen ein kurzer Besuch zu einem Slovak Folk Art
Museum und anschliessend einem riesengrossen Friedhof, genannt “Avenue of 444
Flags” und 1 kanadische Fahne - ein Dank
an die historische Geisel-Befreiung im Iran
1979. Am 3. Tag, auf der Rückfahrt war ein
Mittagessen in Lockport, New York eingeschlossen und eine zweistündige Bootsfahrt
durch den Erie Canal. Selbstverständlich
gehört billig einkaufen in
grossen Outlet malls in Grove
City immer dazu, besonders bei
Frauen, und so manche kam mit
mehreren
vollen
Taschen
zurück zum Bus. Leider mußten
wir über 1 Std. im Bus warten
an der Grenze nach USA und ½
Std. am Weg zurück nach
Canada. Um 10 pm kamen wir
im Concordia Club an wo
unsere Männer natürlich mit
Sehnsucht auf uns warteten.

It has been an extremely hot summer so far.
The only thing that has been hotter than the
weather is the play of the soccer team who
at the halfway point of the season find
themselves sitting in top spot and remain
unbeaten this year.
The June visit to the Waterloo Heritage
Museum proved very interesting to the visitors attending. Photos of the museum and
and the Petersburg train station on site are
enclosed.
We are also competing in a Challenge Cup
and recently moved into the quarter finals
after a hard fought 1-0 win over a really
strong team. Hopefully we can continue to
play at this level and stay ahead of the pack.
I hope you are all enjoying the heat of summer 2012 and hopefully you can find the
time to come out and cheer us on.
Changes for the fall program are as follows.
We will plan for a trip to Butterfly
Conservatory in Guelph on the Wed. Sept.
12, 2012 date. Further information will be
in the Sept. bulletin.
That will leave October for a visit to a local
garden centre, plan for spring by planting in
the fall.

first like to thank Uli Schmidt and her family for inviting us over for a swim in the
pool, Barbecue and meeting afterward. We
are going to Peelee Island Winery for tour on
August 26 and in September our annual
Cottage weekend. On September 28 our pre
Oktoberfest meeting will be taking place
and our group will be involved in other
Club events as well. Happy Birthday wishes

Senioren-Gruppe
So, jetzt haetten wir den heissesten Sommer
in Jahren hinter uns und wir freuen uns auf
die angenehmen September-Temperaturen
und den wunderschoenen “Indian Sommer”. Trotz der Hitze trafen wir uns am 20.
Juni auf der Farm fuer unser jaehrliches
Piknik. Heidi erfreute uns mit einigen
Liedern und alles schmeckte vorzueglich.
Im Juni verstarb unser langjaehriges Mitglied und ehemaliger Praesident Fred Heix.
Wir werden ihn immer in Erinnerung behalten.
Geschaeftlich ist im Moment wenig los, um
so schoener ist das Beisammensein, denn
man hat mehr Zeit zum Plaudern. Im
August trafen wir uns wie immer am ersten
Mittwoch im Monat, und da ueberraschte
uns unser Mitglied Ernst Klarner mit einem
Besuch. Er war einige Monate krank und
wir wussten nicht ob Ernst noch an
unserem monatlichen Treffen teilnehmen
konnte. WELCOME BACK Ernst, es freut
uns das es Dir wieder besser geht.
Ich werde euch alle im September wiedersehen und dann geht es auf die Reise nach
Deutschland. Allerdings bin ich zum Oktoberfest wieder da, nachdem ich in Stuttgart
auf dem “Wasen” war und das Bierstemmen
uebte.

und bescheidner war als heute,
hatten meine hoechste Achtungandre Leute.
Spaeter traf ich auf der Weide
ausser mir noch andere Kaelber,
und nun schaetz ich, sozusagen

Unser Gruppen Picnic am 21. July 2012 war
ein voller Erfolg. Gutes Wetter, gute Freunde, gute Kueche und gutes Bier. Alle trafen
puenktlich ein. Wir hatten auch Besuch aus
Berlin und wir hoffen, dass es auch Edith’s
Besuch gefallen hat. Gisela und Hans
sorgten fuer Kaffee und unsere Damen
brachten leckeres Gebaeck und Kuchen mit.
Am Nachmittag fand dann unser beruehmtes “Bean Bag Game” statt. Die Gewinner
dieses Spieles waren Wilma Schmidt und
Manfred Pastrik. Wir gratulieren.
Puenktlich um 6.00 Uhr brachte Chef Klaus
die Rippchen und die Huehnchen. Klaus
ausgezeichnet, wir danken dir. Nach dem
Essen wurden Siegerpokale ausgeteilt,
unser Klubmeister Ivo Babic war in Calgary
und gewann 2 Goldmedalien in den “World

Transplant Games” im Tischtennis (single
and double).
Wir gratulieren ihm. Danach wurden die
Tombola Prize ausgelost. Wir sassen noch
beisammen bis 8 Uhr. Wir freuten uns dass
unser Klubpräsident Karl Braun und seine
Frau Katharina bei uns zu Gast waren.
Besonderen Dank an unseren Präsidenten
Henry Laube mit seiner Frau Ellen, die
vieles organisierten. Auch Dank an Edith
Giertz, die alle angerufen hat, besonderer
Dank an alle Frauen, für die Beispeisen und
Kuchen.

we had our trophy presentation. Our Club
champion was not present, he was in Calgary to participate at the “World Transplant
Games) in Table Tennis. He won 2 Gold
medals. Congratulations.
After our raffle was over we talked about the
good old times. Special thanks to Henry
Laube our President and his wife Ellen, for
organizing the whole picnic. Thanks to our
Ladies and everybody who helped.

Dear Friends!
Our group picnic was on July 21, 2012 on
the Home of the Range. The weather was
good, the friends, the food and the beer was
good. We were happy to see our Club President Karl Braun and his wife Katharina on
our picnic. Gisela and Hans Seidemann
were in charge of the coffee and our Ladies
brought in all the cakes and goodies. Our
“Bean Bag Game” in the afternoon was won
by Wilma Schmidt and Manfred Pastrik. At
6 o’clock Klaus served the spare rips and the
chicken. Thanks Klaus, it was excellent.
