Bericht des Präsidenten
Ein erfolgreiches neues Jahr wünsche ich
euch allen – möge das
Jahr 2012 nur Glück
und Gesundheit bringen.
Meine Frau Kathi
und ich möchten uns
bei allen Gruppen für
die Einladungen zu ihren Weihnachtsfeiern
herzlich bedanken.
dich bestimmt viele Nerven gekostet.
President’s Report
Happy New Year to all of you, and may the
year 2012 bring you health and good fortune. On behalf of my wife Kathi and me we
would like to thank all the groups for the
kind invitations to their Christmas celebrations. We enjoyed every single function and
appreciated the opportunity to get to know
many of you better. I hope you all had a
wonderful Christmas with your family and
friends.

Your President – Karl Braun
As we start the New Year, we have to think
about the upcoming annual Membership
Meeting on the 26th of February at 2 pm and
the Presidents Ball on the 24th of March.
This year we are losing two Board members
and two others have not decided if they are
going to run for re-election. If you have not
already done so, I urge you to give some
serious consideration to put your name on
the nomination application. The club needs
a younger and fully active board as we continue to meet the challenges before us. As
for myself, I have one more year to go as a
board member, and I decided to put my
name on the application form as President
for one more year.

Der Geschäftsführer berichtet
Mitgliedsbeiträge
Ja, zum Jahresanfang
sind sie wieder fällig
und deshalb bitten wir
alle Mitglieder, ihren
Klub-Beitrag zu entrichten, da der Klub diese
Einnahmen notwendig

muss). Wir sind uns alle sicher, daß die
Schenke dann wieder weit besser aussehen
Halle wieder „sehen“ lassen!

leider keine Mitgliedschaft besitzen. Zwar

Webseite www.concordiaclub.ca bekanntgeben!

... FROM THE MANAGER’S DESK:
Membership Renewals
January 1st is the beginning of a new Club
season/year and with it comes the obligation for every member, to submit payment
for the annual membership dues. The good
news is that these fees have not changed
over the previous years! The exception are
the camping fees, because unfortunately
HST applies to all fees at the farm!
As I have said many times before, the club
needs the membership fee income to cover
ongoing operating expenses, especially in
the traditionally slower months, which are
typical for the restaurant industry in January, February and March.
7
Concordia Membership Fees for 2012
Membership Renewals
$ 110.- per Family
$ 75.- single Person
$ 20.- Student
$ 30.- per Senior
Social Membership Fee: $ 20.Farm Gate Card $ 20.- per year
Senior Membership fee applies if a member
reaches the age of 65 and has been a club
member for the last 5 consecutive years. In
the case of a married couple, the seniors fee
applies if one of the spouses has reached age
65. In this case two senior fees of $ 30.- are
payable.
Administration Fee for membership latepayers or revivals as well as new memberships: $ 20.- (applies for payments received
after April 30th)
Annual Farm lot fee, including 2 Gate
Cards: $ 621.50 including HST
Annual Farm Hydro Fee: is undetermined at
this time as we base the calculation on the
2011 year and we have at this time not
received the December hydro bill. It will
however be around $ 150.- per camping
spot.
There is another footnote: The annual Farm
fee will only be accepted providing the
annual lot contract has also been signed.
This has to happen by March 31st, 2012 –
otherwise the lot will be deemed abandoned
and available and will be given to a new
person.
For a more durable membership card, we
offer plastic lamination of the membership
card for $ 1.50 plus tax per card.
How does this connect to the Members discount?
As you hopefully all know, every paid up
member qualifies for the 15% food discount
in the Schenke. This means that only members with a year 2012 card can actually
receive the discount.
In order to avoid hard feelings: there is a
“grace” period of 15 days until January
15th, where the old 2011 membership card
will still be accepted for discount purposes!
All our servers have clear instructions to ask
for the card before they can process the
reduction on the food portion of the restaurant bill.
Unfortunately, many times our guests
expect the wait staff to know their membership status and are upset when the waitress
politely asks. This would be really nice if
they knew all the members, but please
understand that no one on staff knows every
and all individual members, and even if
they know them, they certainly do not know
whether or not they are currently “paid up
members”!!
Yes, the office could provide them with a
membership list, but we would have to
print a new list almost every day and that
would first be a lot of paper, further more
under the new privacy legislation we cannot guarantee that this list would not get
into the wrong hands! Therefore the most
easy and economic way to prove membership status without giving the servers a hassle is by showing the new card - and the
problem is solved!!
Please don’t forget, if we want to stay strong
as an organization then yes - we need memberships and in order to finance at least part
8
of it we also need the membership income.
Oktoberfest has helped to keep the annual
membership fees on the current level – otherwise they may be much higher! Your club
is more than just a restaurant and banquet
hall - our the expenses go far beyond what’s
considered normal for a casual dining place.
Membership has it’s privileges and I guess
that’s why we issue a card in the first place!
Floor refinishing in the Schenke
The Schenke floor takes literally a beating
every winter because we use a lot of salt to
ensure nobody slips and falls on the way in
or out. Keeping it shiny creates another
problem by adding constantly to the already
layered and hardened floor finish. The only
way to correct this buildup and to bring the
floor to a reasonable condition is to sand it
down and to give it a couple of coats of urethane finish. We have decided to do this at
the beginning of January in the first week
and therefore the Schenke will only be open
again on Saturday, January 7th. This will
brighten up the floor substantially and make
the Schenke Restaurant so much nicer. Have
a look in Janaury!!
New Washrooms for the Hall
Another project in waiting was finally started in late December by ripping our all the
tiles and fixtures in both Hall washrooms.
Everything will be replaced with something
new and the intend is to have it look sort of
like the lower floor washrooms. Providing
there are no unforeseen complications we
hope to have the renovation project completed by January 7th, just in time for the
new Banquet season. I am sure our Ruth
Rajna will be happy because our customers
will appreciate the new “facilities”! I am not
9
kidding with this, in today’s market all
these things make a difference and there are
more banquet facilities than ever in town!!
Valentines Day
This year Valentines Day falls on a Monday!
February 14th is Valentines Day and you
can enjoy a special Valentines Dinner in the
Schenke! Chef Andreas and his team will
think of something special to make this
occasion an enjoyable one! We’ll be serving
a 3 or 4 course dinner and our Schenke will
the perfect place to spend a nice evening
together. We have event assured nice background music! As seating is somewhat limited in the Schenke, I strongly suggest not to
put off making reservations too long on the
“back burner”. As soon as we know we’ll
post the menu on our web page www.concordiaclub.ca
With best regards and best wishes for 2012

Christkindl Market
Again our tradition of selling Glueh Wine at
the KW Christkindl Market 2011 has come
and gone.
We sure needed some snow, to make it look
more festive. Sunday rain, I’m sure kept
some people away. I’m very pleased with
the financial result and like to thank all the
members of our Main Board and Concordia’s Management Team, who made this
exercise a pleasant task. A special thanks
also goes to Helga and Albert Koch for volunteering their time to sell and serve our
delicious Glueh Wine. Again as always the
proceeds of our Tip Jar was donated to the
Children Wish Foundation.
Thank you all for a great job.
Robert Nowak.
Campers
Just think, only 15 short weeks until Farm
Cleanup!!!!
There’s not much to report on from the
Campers in January, but plans are underway
for our three picnics in 2012. We would love
to see all Club members taking advantage of
the facilities out at the Farm, it’s not just for
the Campers use!!
Best wishes to everyone for a happy, and
prosperous New Year!

Happy New Year Concordia and Outdoor
Group Members
It’s 2012 and I can’t believe where the years
have gone. I trust everyone had a very merry
Christmas and you received everything you
wished for.
The Outdoor Group had a great 2011. We
had a lot of successful functions such as
Fathers Day, Halloween Party, Horseback
riding, Fishing Trip and of course our
Christmas Party. The Christmas Party was
well attended including the jolly old soul
himself, Santa Claus. Elsa Schulz received a
40 year membership plaque and Sandy
Adamson received a 5 year pin. Congratulations to both of you.
Your committee is working very hard organizing Winter Carnival. It will be at the end of
February. Keep your eyes open in February’s
bulletin for a final date for Winter Carnival.
Nominations meetings have started for our
new Main Board. If you want to make a
change please run for the board or come out
and vote at the annual meeting. I will have
more details about Winter Carnival and a
calender of events for the Outdoor Group for
2012. If you haven’t paid your membership
for the new year, you can drop a check in to
the Outdoor Groups mailbox at the Concordia Club. Take care for now.

Enzian Schuhplattler
2011 proved again to be a very busy year for
the Enzian Schuhplattlers with many performances, Trachtenfests, Heimatabends,
Bockbierfests, multi-cultural events, Oktoberfest, etc...
showcase each others dances as we all
become so caught up with our Oktoberfest
dancing commitments that we don’t have
time to socialize and support each others
dancing during this busy time.
During this all, we maintained our weekly
practices, have recruited new dancers, and
are continuously learning new dances to
add to our repertoire.
In July, several of our members traveled to
Orlando, Florida to attend and compete in
the 23rd Annual Gaufest hosted by the
S.T.V. Maiglöckchen Verein. While at Gaufest, our group participated in the many
Gaufest events, including: Heimatabend and
Festabend dances, banquets, Frühschoppen,
Einzel Preisplattln competitions, etc. As
this was minutes from the many theme
parks and other attractions, some of our
families stayed a few extra nights to take in
the Florida attractions with family and fellow dancers. We didn’t leave with any
awards, however we left with a further
appreciation of our German culture and
commitment to our dancing and our Verein
that we are part of.
We enjoyed our Enzian Holiday Potluck
party on December 3rd at one of our group
member’s house and we all are looking forward to the holidays with our family and
the well-deserved break until the New Year.
Upon our return from Florida, we quickly
booked up with other events and performances such as, Brantford Villages (multi-cultural event), three wedding performances
(some out of town), a social gathering with a
Schuhplattler group visiting from Germany
(of which the Concordia Eisstock team will
visit when in Germany during their Eisstock
Tournament),
Pre-Oktoberfest
shows
(Exeter, Brantford Sonnenhof Club), and of
course our busy week during Oktoberfest at
the many fest halls. We also took part in the
“So You Think You Can Tanz” event at the
Alpine Club during the week of Oktoberfest
and had a fun time participating. It’s great
to have all the groups together to watch and

A Happy New Year to all our gardeners. We
hope some of your ideas from the General
Meeting and Christmas Social last December 14 th will be helping us plan events and
speakers for 2012.
Of course, the members who attended last
November’s presentation by Roger Tschanz,
may be itching to try some of his new annuals and perennials in their own “trial gardens”. A suggestion was made about a trip
to one of the trial gardens this summer.
There have been some changes in the

Treffpunkt
Happy New Year!
We hope that everyone had a wonderful
Christmas holiday. December was a very
busy month for us. On the 4th a group of
Treffpunkt members put on a Christmas celebration of songs & skits at the Seniorenhaus. We all had a lot of fun and always
look forward to visiting and sharing some
laughs and goodies too. The Treffpunkt children did a wonderful job with their skits!
Treffpunkt members enjoyed a festive
Christmas dinner in the Jagerstube. Thankyou to the Club staff for a delicious dinner!
Now is the time to look ahead towards 2012.
The Treffpunkt group has another year coming up filled with great trips and fun social
events. Later in the spring, we will again be
hosting Fruhlingsfest. In the summer, look
for up-coming dates for another Mystery
Trip and a cottage weekend.
Treffpunkt would love to wish everyone
health & happiness for 2012!

Concordia Choir
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! The month of December is a busy fun filled month for the choirs.
We had great weather and a great turn out at
the Christkindl Markt December 3rd. Next,
on Tuesday, December 6th we were invited
to perform at the Senior’s dinner. A big
thank you to Helmut Koeckritz, who stepped in as our conductor. The highlight of the
month is our concert on December 11th.
This is followed by our own Christmas
party Monday, December 12th. And the men
finish off the year with caroling at the
Seniorenhaus December 16th. As always,
due to the timing, I’ll report the honorary
members in February’s bulletin.
The choirs had the annual Poinsettia sale,
and I would like to say a big thank you to all
who sold or purchased plants from us this
year. Our top sellers were Ulrike Schmidt
and Tanya Rahn-Kubasta. They sold 55
plants each!! Christine Schwegel came in
second with 35 plants sold. Your efforts are
greatly appreciated by the choir, as this is a
huge amount of effort on your part to deliver this many plants on your own! Thank you
girls!
Our Christmas party as well as our annual
meeting, allows us the opportunity to thank
all the people involved in making the
Concordia Choirs such a success. Some people get public acknowledgement, but there
are many more behind the scenes that do a
lot of work and ask for no recognition or
compensation. To all of those who have
helped in any way this year we thank you!
At the end of the day we all come together
for our love of music. With your help the
Concordia club and the Concordia choirs
19
will continue for
many many years. A
big thank you to the
music man, Dr. Alfred
Kunz and his wife
Dana. I believe you
are going into your
45th year of conducting and instructing
us. We can’t wait to
see what the new year
brings.

Thank you to all those who helped celebrate
our Mardi Gras Opening on November 12th.

watching the Garde Dancers perform, hearing the Prince and Princess’ Proclamation
