MESSAGE FROM SECA
As we at SECA prepare for the beginning of an exciting
fiscal year it is with great pleasure that we share our first
quarterly newsletter with our valued members.
The past year has been one of significant change and
progress at SECA with new employees, a new office, a
new logo and a new Vision, Mission, and Goals that were
established in order to move the organization forward.
We have new systems in place for email, social media,
bookkeeping and databases. It is with great confidence
that we take on the tasks to ensure all SECA members
have their needs met by the organization.
The membership structure has been revamped to make
it more affordable to our members and increase
flexibility for staff member’s usage.
As always, if you have a question, suggestion or concern,
don’t hesitate to contact our office. After all, we work
for you, the members!

SECA News
Raffi came to Saskatchewan!
Once called "the most popular children's singer in the English-speaking world"
he is well loved by many children for his popular children's songs.
Some of Raffi's best-known children's songs are "Baby Beluga",
"Bananaphone", "All I Really Need", and "Down by the Bay."
Most of Raffi's children's albums include small, simple, folk instrumentations,
prominently featuring Raffi's vocal and guitar work.
Raffi is currently the president of Troubadour Music Inc., a triple-bottomline company he founded to produce and promote his work according to his
ethical standards. He continues to perform and appear occasionally across
Canada
SECA had the distinct pleasure of hosting Raffi and speaking to the crowd
about our association on Saturday March 28 in Regina and Sunday March
29 in Saskatoon.

November 20th and 21st, 2015
The Saskatchewan Early Childhood Association is pleased to announce the Annual General Meeting
to be held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The AGM is an opportunity for all members to express the
right to vote for the preferred representation on the Board of Directors. In conjunction with the AGM,
which will take place over lunch, we will be hosting a workshop featuring Jeff A. Johnson. The SECA
Awards Gala will take place the evening before. Nomination forms will be available on the SECA
website. Be sure to get your nominations in and take this opportunity to celebrate the amazing work
being done in our province to support children and families!

Influence
SECA understands the value of developing mutually supportive relationships both
provincially and on a national level. There are a number of active, motivated groups
working towards goals of high quality programs, staff education, and advocacy for the
field of ECE as a whole. Here at SECA we strive to maintain and develop relationships
with these groups in order to provide our members with the greatest level of support
possible and in order to remain up to date with the work being done and provide supports
whenever possible.
Ministry of Education—Early Years Branch
Twice annually representatives from SECA meet with members of the Early Learning
branch of the Ministry to discuss the issues and strengths of our field. When we enter
these meetings we are speaking on behalf of you, our membership. An email will go
out to the members in advance of our next meeting requesting your input as to topics
of discussion. Remember, there is strength in numbers so the greater the number of
members the more influence we are able to have.

province. SECA wants to know what we
can do to support your initiatives and
learn about your challenges and
successes. Please contact our office if
you would like to invite us to one of your
meetings.
SECA has been working closely with the
other provincial associations as well as the
Canadian Child Care Association to gather
and develop relevant and useful documents
for both Early Learning professionals and
families. In the coming days and weeks we
will be sharing a variety of materials with our
membership in formats that will be easy to
share and provide clarity as to the platforms
of the parties in regards to Early Learning.

Access—Insurance
The Cooperators have been providing SECA members with quality insurance for twenty
years and insure family and group homes, and centres. The Cooperators provide great
rates for group homes which is atypical of insurance companies which normally insure
homes as a Commercial Operation. The SECA insurance plan is a group plan the
Cooperators are able to offer flexibility in coverage options. Some options include: liability
up to 5 million dollars; abuse and molestation coverage up to 1 million dollars; contents up
to $400,000; and building insured to replacement cost. They have recently added Liability
coverage for Directors & Officers and Wrongful Dismissal. The Cooperators his able to
offer broad forms of coverage in the market and because of volume purchasing by SECA
members they are able to keep the cost competitive.
FAQ: What is Non-Owned Auto Coverage?
Non-owned Auto is liability coverage for a vehicle that is
owned by an individual other than the company, but is used on
a company’s behalf. It is intended for those “incidental”
accidents—such as those that might occur when you send an in
-house employee on an errand to buy lunch or go to the bank.
If your employer has a “non-owned auto” policy does it protect
you while running business errands in your personal car or just
protect the employer?
Non-owned auto coverage protects your company in the event
your company is sued as a result of an auto accident that you
or one of the employees has in a personal vehicle while on
company business. This coverage DOES NOT protect you or
the employee personally. Usually an employee’s personal auto
policy will provide insurance to the employee; however, some
personal auto policies now exclude business use. You must
make sure that your limits are high enough o cover you
personally, if an accident should occur. If you do not have a
personal auto policy, and are covered solely by the business
auto policy, you must ensure that the company’s auto policy
has the “Drive Other Car” coverage endorsement. This
endorsement would provide coverage to the employee
PERSONALLY, not just the company.
Non-Owned Auto coverage is typically added as an
endorsement on a General Liability policy. When there are no
vehicles titled in the company name this coverage will meet the
contract requirement for Commercial Auto coverage.
