Further Advice for BYOD
• EDMAX computers purchased through ASI are
fully supported with insurance, warranty and
repairs (note – it is the owner’s responsibility to
manage all aspects of computer support- make
sure receipts and documentation are carefully
stored). The computer devices in the EDMAX
program have been proven to be robust and well
suited to the school environment. Our chosen
devices are - Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga, Lenovo
ThinkPad 11e, Macbook Pro, iPad.
• The Lenovo ThinkPad is supplied with the DEECD
eduSTAR image which includes Windows 8.1,
Microsoft Office 2013 and educational software
applications.
• The Lenovo ThinkPad is supplied with the DEECD
eduSTAR image which includes Windows 8.1,
Microsoft Office 2013 and educational software
applications.
• The Apple MacBook is supplied with the DEECD
eduSTAR image which includes OS X 10.9,
Microsoft Office 2011 and educational software
applications. They also include a smaller version
of the eduSTAR Windows 8.1 image which can be
run under VirtualBox.
• The eduSTAR software will be returned to the
factory OEM software when the student leaves the
High School.
• BYOD (non EDMAX). WHS recommends a BYOD
computer has maximum support with insurance,
warranty, hard protective case and access to
repairs. When purchasing a device ask what
support is available and check the technical
specifications. Make sure all receipts and device
details are carefully stored. It is the responsibility
of the BYOD device owner to ensure their child has
best access on a daily basis to a computer device
for their learning.
• Consider the School environment – a hard cover
for a computer is essential protection to minimise
breakages.
• Battery Life is a constant problem. It needs to last
the whole day - 6 hours.
• Think ahead - aim for a device that lasts 3 years.
The device should match a students needs for
learning.
• Check the WHS Technical Sprecifcations to
determine suitability of a device. Use the WHS
website for all details of BYOD.
• It’s your device, Repairs, Service, Insurance,
Warranties, Ask Suppliers / Keep records.
• It’s your device; but, it will still be regulated by the
WHS Acceptable Use Agreement
• The device is for student learning. The computer
needs to be available every day at school.

BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE
Wangaratta High School is transitioning to
‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) in 2015 to enable
all students to BYOD for 1:1 mobile computer learning!
It is important to note:
Wangaratta High School offers two BYOD options:
BYOD requires parents to ensure their child
has a 1:1 mobile computer device to support
their learning.
1. EDMAX. A computer bought through the
EDMAX program is fully prepared for the WHS
network with software, wireless connection,
warranty and a high quality hard cover.
Comprehensive insurance is also available.
A computer purchased through the EDMAX
company, ASI, meets all the requirements
listed in this document. Macbook Pro will
contain both a Windows side and a mac side.
Government funding does not support students to
be supplied with a 1:1 computer device.
A BYOD computer must comply with the WHS
Technical Specifications and be used as described
in the WHS Acceptable Use Agreement.
2. BYOD (not EDMAX). If a student is to bring their
own computer for learning it must meet the
Device Specifications listed in this document.
If you decide your child is going to bring their own
device, this document will provide you with the
necessary specifications to ensure the device
meets the minimum systems requirements.

Security Essentials for Windows 7, Vista, System Center Endpoint Protection and too
many to list!
2. Mac- Only 3 applications – System Center Endpoint Protection antivrus, Wolfram
Mathematica, Adobe Reader.
3. iPad – 150 suggested apps, but apps are accessed through the iTunes Store and
includes free and to be purchased apps.
