The US Federal Aviation Administration
recently approved a float option for the
Robinson R66 helicopter, with a new
variant designated the R66 Turbine
Marine. The pop-out floats are similar
to the system provided for the pistonengined R44, using the same float tubes
but with revised attachments.
Intended primarily for emergency use but also approved for water
take offs at reduced operating weights,
to allow for water operations training or
limited amphibious use, the float option
adds around 29kg (65lb) to the
helicopter's empty weight. The system
is activated by a lever on the pilot's
collective and inflates within 2-3
seconds, using pressurised helium from
a tank mounted under the starboard rear
seat. When not in use the float tubes
stow in low-profile protective covers
along the landing gear skids,
minimising drag and allowing easy
cabin entry and exit. Robinson has
established the base price of the R66
Turbine Marine at $875,000

Rotortrade Services has signed a new
trade-in agreement with AgustaWestland, taking eight second-hand
helicopters of various types for remarketing to new customers.
Rotortrade signed an exclusive
distributorship contract in 2013 with
AgustaWestland to support trade-in
sales on a global basis, particularly for
VIP/corporate and private helicopters
where there is a high market demand
and ease of reconfiguration to suit
purchasers. The company also offers
related services, such as pre-purchase
inspections.

UK Bell Helicopter dealer Heli Charter

helicopters into the country, with the
latest example for insurance company
Homeserve recently fitted out at the
Heli Charter, Manston facility in Kent.
The aircraft will replace a corporate
Airbus Helicopters AS355N currently
operated by Homeserve.
Meanwhile Bell has secured
its first order in Europe for the Model
429WLG variant with a retractable

Italian operator Elilombarda has begun
support flights to the Ocean Endeavor
offshore platform in the Black
Sea, using AgustaWestland AW139
helicopters flying from Constanta in
Romania. The offshore platform is
drilling in waters reaching some 800m
(2625ft) in depth and 185km (100nm)
offshore in the Neptune Block, which is
50/50 percent owned by ExxonMobile
Romania and OMV Petrom.
Elilombarda won the multiyear contract despite a court challenge
in Romania earlier this year and has
leased two AW139s, both of which
came from the AgustaWestland
Philadelphia assembly line and were
ferried to Italy in mid-October. The
aircraft were then flown to Constanta
on 24 October to begin operations. Of
the two helicopters, one is configured
for the search and rescue role with an
additional long range fuel tank and
Breeze-Eastern hoist. The second
aircraft is fitted out to carry 12
passengers plus crew.
Both helicopters are equipped
with the AgustaWestland developed Ice
Protection System, which is considered
essential for winter operations in the
Black Sea region.
