Mimi will be scouting locations this winter to find a sacred spot for relaxed attunement to the
healing magic of the desert. Explore uses of the plants and their flower essences and gain direct
experience in making teas, using native foods, and preparing desert plants for first aid.

Jane has run yearly trips to Gauadalupe Canyon in the Sonoran desert of Baja for many years and invites
us to rejoice in the healing available from the plants, the rocks, the sand, the sun and the trees.
Identify healing plants used for food and medicine, and create a simple ceremony to honor our ancestors.

Kenneth Proefrock, ND
Kenneth Proefrock presents his clinical experience using Cannabis therapeutically for a wide range of
conditions from seizures, restless leg syndrome and insomnia, to cancer, MS, Parkinson’s and chronic
pain. Detailed usage information includes prescribing as an internal agent, a vapor, as food and in
topical applications for pain. Includes some of the more interesting research on the variability of constituents with different cultivation techniques and cross-reactions with other therapeutic agents.
Reviews laws surrounding medical uses with an emphasis on Arizona.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES
PAUL BERGNER
Paul Bergner is the Director of the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism in Portland, Oregon,
where he offers seminar training in clinical skills, medical herbalism, nutrition, and nature cure. He supervised
a teaching clinic in Boulder, Colorado from 1996 until 2012, has edited the Medical Herbalism journal since
1989, and is the author of seven books on herbal medicine.
JANE BOTHWELL
A practicing herbalist, educator, hypnotherapist and flower essence practitioner, Jane Bothwell is dedicated
to empowering people with the knowledge and wisdom necessary to use plants wisely as food, medicine and
spiritual support. She brings over twenty years of working with clients, teaching herb classes and generally
immersing herself in plants. Jane directs the Dandelion Herbal Center in Kneeland, California.
MARY BOVE, ND
A clinical medical herbalist, Mary Bove has a practice in family medicine in Brattleboro, Vermont. She is the
author of An Encyclopedia of Natural Healing for Children and Infants, and lectures and teaches internationally on the
topics of naturopathic medicine, botanical medicine, pediatrics, natural pregnancy, childbirth, food as medicine
and mind-body healing. She is currently the medical educator for Gaia Herbs in Brevard, NC.
AMANDA McQUADE CRAWFORD, MA, RH (AHG)
A medical herbalist, teacher, author, television host of “What a Relief!” and consultant for the natural products
industry, Amanda McQuade Crawford is the author of The Herbal Menopause Book and Herbal Remedies for Women.
Amanda recently received her master’s degree in clinical psychology, and her integrative practice encompasses
hospice and bereavement counseling as well as herbal and nutritional prescribing.
DAVID CROW, LAc
An acupuncturist, aromatherapist and herbalist with over thirty years experience, David Crow is the author of
In Search of the Medicine Buddha and Sacred Smoke. He is the founder of Floracopeia, Inc, which produces essential
oils from sources around the world and supports ecologically sustainable agriculture. Through teaching and
activism he promotes the creation of grassroots healthcare based on community gardens.
CHRISTOPHER HOBBS, PhD
Christopher Hobbs, a fourth generation herbalist, is the author of 22 books on health and herbal medicine.
He is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, consultant to the natural products industry, author, public speaker
and now a PhD (UC Berkeley) in the plant sciences of evolutionary biology and botany.
PHYLLIS HOGAN
The owner of Winter Sun Trading Company in Flagstaff, Phyllis Hogan founded the Arizona Ethnobotanical Research Association (AERA) to investigate, document and preserve native plant usage in the
Southwest. She teaches ethnobotany programs for the Navajo & other tribes.
MIMI KAMP
Mimi Kamp has been making plant medicine in the Southwest for over 35 years. Her field classes and
presentations emphasize habitat, sustainability, Mexican and ethnobotanical usage, and direct perception and
communication with the plants themselves.
SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES
RHONDA PALLASDOWNEY
The founder of Living Flower Essences and The Center for Plant Studies and Healing Arts in Cottonwood,
Arizona, Rhonda is an herbalist and flower essence practitioner who teaches herbal studies, plant life and
healing journeys in nature. She is the author of Voices of Flowers and The Healing Power of Flowers.
KENNETH PROEFROCK, ND
A naturopathic physician practicing in Sun City, Arizona, Kenneth Proefrock is also the owner of Vital Force
Naturopathic Compounding. He is the vice-president of the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners and chair of the biochemistry portion of the naturopathic physician’s licensing exam.
JOANN SANCHEZ
JoAnn Sanchez is the director of the herbalist training program at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in
Scottsdale (a 750-hour diploma program), for which she has recently published four training manuals. She
teaches at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, where she also tends the medicine garden.
KATIE STAGE, ND, RH (AHG)
Katie Stage is a naturopathic physician practicing at Rockwood Natural Medicine Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona,
and at the SCNM clinic in Tempe. She is a full time faculty member at SCNM, teaching botanical medicine,
hydrotherapy, GYN lab, and clinical skills.
JILL STANSBURY, ND
A naturopathic physician who has practiced in Washington state for over 20 years, Jill Stansbury was the chair of
the Botanical Medicine Program at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) for 25 years, where
she is now on the faculty in botanical medicine. She lectures internationally and leads ethnobotany trips to Peru.
DAVID WINSTON, RH (AHG)
David Winston is an herbalist and ethnobotanist with over 40 years of training and clinical experience in
Cherokee, Chinese and Western/Eclectic herbal traditions. He offers a two year clinical training program in
botanical medicine at David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies and is the founder and president of Herbalist
and Alchemist, Inc.
