“Set your goals high, and don’t stop till you get there.” ~ Bo Jackson
Dr Peter Clayton, guest speaker at our Academic Dinner last night, congratulated the learners on their achievement and
encouraged them to continue in this vein. He also recommended that they participate in extra-curricular activities in order to
broaden their experience at school. We endorse Dr Clayton’s views.

STEELBAND
The Steelband had a successful performance at Rhodes University’s Jazz Evening on Sunday 8 February. The band had crowds
of first-year students dancing and singing to their upbeat tunes. Among the crowd were also a few Old Graemians, who joined in
the performance. Well done and thank you to all the performers for a really “rocking” performance.
WILDLIFE CLUB VISITS THE NATIONAL FISH COLLECTION AT SAIAB
On Friday 6 of February a group of seven boys visited the National Fish Collection at the South African Institute for Aquatic
Biodiversity (SAIAB), where Vanessa Rouhani took them on a tour of the facility. This is a specialised facility which allows for the
receiving, sorting, preservation and storage of valuable marine and aquatic species – not just fish, but amphibians and other
animals as well. The learners asked a wide range of questions and came away with a far better idea of the science of taxonomy,
and the efforts made by scientists to protect some of the lesser-known wildlife species out there. Some of the interesting
specimens on show included the well-known coelacanth and one of the few examples of an albino great white shark. Documents
and pamphlets, relating to Marine Bioscience as a possible career option, will be made available for viewing in the library. Another
trip to this facility will be arranged in future and we encourage all those who are interested in our wildlife heritage to attend, if
possible.
