NHK WORLD program revision for 2015
Main features and new programs
TOKYO, February 17, 2015revision for 2015 as follows.
NHK’s international service, NHK WORLD, announces program
NHK WORLD TV, NHK’s international English-language broadcast,
will be upgraded and expanded
Powerful news program and debate program
”NEWSROOM TOKYO,” a new 45-minute news program, with comprehensive, in-depth coverage
and commentary of the day’s news from Japan and the rest of Asia, will be broadcast on weekday
nights in Japan, in the morning slots on the east coast of North America, and in the evening hours in
other Asian countries.
And a new debate program, “GLOBAL AGENDA,” will be aired once a month on weekends. The
program invites prominent guests from around the world to give their views on global issues to seek
solutions to the problems. Boosting recognition of NHK WORLD TV as a global media is another
purpose of the program.
Programs targeting a specific audience
Informative programs on subjects that appeal to specific people in specific regions, such as trends in
economy, industry, cutting-edge technology, tourism, food, and other aspects of Japanese culture, will
be broadcast on weekdays at convenient viewing times for each of North America, Asia and Europe.
Weekend broadcasts will include animations and other various entertaining programs.
Programming for fiscal 2015 will include animations and new genres; twenty new programs will be
added to the lineup, bringing the total number of programs to 58 at the beginning of the fiscal year.

NHK WORLD ONLINE, the official website, will be completely revamped,
and some programs will be distributed online via the
video-on-demand (VOD) system starting in this June.
80th anniversary of international broadcasting
This year marks the 80th anniversary since international radio
broadcasts began in Japan in 1935. To commemorate the occasion,
NHK WORLD RADIO JAPAN will broadcast a special program,
connecting, radio, and website built especially for the event.
