Health Alert: The Kitsap Public Health District has issued a health alert due to an outbreak of pertussis
(whooping cough) infection. Pertussis is a serious disease that can strike at any age, but it is very serious for
infants. The majority of pertussis cases have been reported in school-aged children, mostly in the Bainbridge
Island and North Kitsap school districts. However, we have seen cases in other parts of the county and expect the
number of cases to grow.
Kitsap Public Health is requesting your assistance in helping to reduce the spread of pertussis. Here are some
steps you can take:





Stay home if you are sick; keep sick children home from school
See a doctor if you or your child has a persistent cough and other symptoms of pertussis
Cover your coughs and sneezes and wash your hands frequently
Make sure your children have had the recommended doses of the pertussis vaccine (DTaP)
Talk with your physician about the pertussis booster (Tdap)


ASVAB Test: Wednesday, March 25, 2015 7:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. – Klahowya, Room 136.
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test) is a national multi-aptitude test battery
that has been provided to high schools and post-secondary schools since 1968. It includes eight individual
tests covering general science, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, math
knowledge, electronics information, auto & shop information and mechanical comprehension. It also
provides three Career Exploration Scores for Verbal Skills, Math Skills, and Science and Technical Skills.
These three scores serve as one of several pieces of information that can aid students in the exploration
of a wide variety of educational and career options. This test is offered at no cost to high school students
and there is no military obligation. Students have the option to release or withhold their test
scores to the Armed Forces. This test is offered to students that are in the 11th & 12th grade. If you are
interested in taking the test, sign up in the SSC. Space is limited. If you have any questions, see Mr.
Miles.
