I’m back from fishing, not that I was. As excited
I as was for spring at my last writing, it was not
enough to motivate me to complete my work on
the trailer. That doesn’t mean that I not still
excited. I can hardly wait to hook up and go to
Kalispell, then race home and head for Maple
Creek
By the way, sorry I am so late getting the information out on the Buddy Rally but I was
putting on an event for another organization, which took more time than I had expected.
Hopefully Sharon and I will see many of you in Maple Creek. The campground is
beautiful with full hook-ups, and Bob and Donna Bilodeau have booked the Legion Hall
for meals and social activities. If any can organize breakfasts or help with breakfasts
please contact me at [email protected].
I would like to have a workshop on Skype at HAB, if you have skills in this area and
would be willing to do it, please contact me.

International Rally
June 26th – July 4th Farmington, NM
There are a few pieces of information that may be useful for those intending to attend International this year.
Check out our very own Hazel Knopp’s articles in the March (p. 31) and April (p. 34/37) Blue Beret. This year
there will be a free day for touring the area and it looks like there are some amazing sights. If you are interested in
registering for tours, registration websites are on page 35 in the March Blue Beret and coupons on p. 35. Tours
will include Trails n Rails, La Plata Canyon Jeep Trail Tour, Lower Animas Guided River Rafting, Bus/Train
Silverton to Durango, Mesa Verde Discovery Tour, Chaco Canyon Ruins, and Cliff Palace.
Rally Theme
“Explore the possibilities”. The colours are black and tan with splashes of Navajo colours (coral, turquoise, and
gold).
Rally Parade
Parade entries will be judged in two categories: theme and originality. First-timers and members-at-large are
encouraged to join the parade but only unit entries will be judged. Entries can be designed, build, and financed by
a single unit or by two small units. No professional help is permitted. Please contact Sharon Cairns,
[email protected] if anyone is interested in having a parade entry, which can be either a float or a walking
entry. Floats (entries with wheels) should not exceed 4 X 8 feet. We are not permitted to hand out or throw
anything to spectators. The entry requires an easy to read banner, carried so it faces the judges. Flags cannot be
more than 3 X 5 feet. If we want to enter the parade, we would need to appoint a Parade Chairperson. One idea
that comes to mind is we could build a cardboard airstream and show a series of pictures of major local sights.
Other ideas welcome.
Caravans
If you are planning on arriving in a caravan, the WBCCI Caravan Chairperson needs to be informed of the
anticipated number of units expected to participate and arrange for a specific date and time of arrival. The
WBCCI Caravan Chairperson is Chuck Kiple, #20 Woodshire Dr., Ottumwa, Iowa, 52501-1356, 641-684-8365,

Unit Publications Contests
We are thinking we should enter both the newsletter and unit directory this year. The newsletter requires
submission of three consecutive newsletters. Note: the scoresheet for the newsletters gives us points for
communication by the unit president, articles by members, coverage of unit activities (past and upcoming), and
bonus points for WBCCI content as well as clear typeface, column arrangement, composition and grammar,
appropriate straight margins, photographs, headlines, illustrations, creativity and writing style, and bonus points
for artistic and technical content.
The unit directories receive points for table of contents, unit officer and committee listing, alphabetical member
listing, international and region officer listing, numerical member listing, unit activities, past presidents listing,
unit constitution and bylaws (with date of approval), bonus for pictures, cell phones, winter addresses, and unit
information. Artistic/technical points are earned for attractive cover, clean typeface, column arrangement, eye
appeal, creativity, illustrations/artwork, and bonus points for effective use of space, WOW factor, and
attractiveness.
Getting Together
Red Deer – Almost Spring Luncheon
Saturday March 21st, 2015
A small but dedicated group gathered for the March Luncheon at the Black Knight on March 21st. In
attendance were: Bob and Donna Bilodeau, John Fikkert, Carol and John Meyers, Charles and Engelina
Wehnes along with their grandson, Tobias, Sharon Cairns, and Stephen Fairley. Road conditions were not too
bad but visibility was not great with heavy fog both for the folks coming from Edmonton and Calgary. We are
always amazed at the people who do not think to put on their lights so others can see their taillights.

Rallies & Events
Spartan Rally – Kalispell, MT
May 8th – 10th, 2015
If anyone is considering attending the May Kalispell, MT rally please contact Sharon Cairns at
[email protected] so that I can arrange the correct number of sites. This has traditionally been an
event for those who wish to participate in the Spartan Race held on May 10th. We have a team
entered, The Streamers, if you would like to participate. It is just under a 5 mile run with 20 to 30
obstacles and if you cannot succeed with a particular challenge you can do 30 burpees instead (contact
Sharon if you would like more details). Non-participants for the race are also welcome at the rally.
Let me know either way. The default site for the rally has been the Kalispell/Whitefish KOA, but we
are open to other venues.

Odds & Ends
Frauds & Scams
I was originally forwarded an article on phone fraud using area codes 809, 284,
876, 473 and potential large $$ charges if you call them back. While this is a true
story – it requires significant clarification. The area codes are not always
fraudulent and the scam circulated originally in 2000 and is very rare nowadays.
We are often inundated with urgent e-mails, Facebook posts etc about potential
scams and dangers. Considering how fast information travels these days, it is
worth doing a quick check on things before panicking and passing them on.
You can do a quick Google Search on the subject or check out
www.snopes.com – which is what I did for the above area code story
