Mandela Day Service 19th July
Nelson Mandela spent more than 2015
67 years fighting for the rights of humanity. On
Mandela Day people are called to devote just 67 minutes of their time to
changing the world for the better, in a small gesture of solidarity with humanity,
and in a small step towards a continuous, global movement for good.
As followers of Jesus at Bedford Chapel, we are called to follow Jesus’ example of
being a servant, looking for every opportunity to wash another’s feet. The
Mandela Day service is the ideal opportunity to do this as we seek to serve both
the staff and residents of Epworth Children’s Home and the people of our Lord’s
th
Storehouse. Therefore on Sunday 19 July 2015, we will be having a work party
instead of the normal Sunday morning service.
Activities include:







Making and packing biscuits for Epworth Home children & staff
Making bead bracelets for Epworth Home children & staff
Packing hampers for those who collect food parcels from our Lord’s
Storehouse ministry
Assembling care packages for Epworth Home staff
Painting of ceramic mugs for those who collect food parcels from our
Lord’s Storehouse ministry
A knitting corner
Donation of old children’s books for the Epworth Library
There will also be a prayer station in the church for those who would like some
time for prayer and reflection. This will include the opportunity to receive
communion.
In addition to this opportunity for service, we will be having a boerewors braai - a
wonderful opportunity to relax and enjoy time to connect with one another. We
will request a donation towards each boerewors roll.
We are requesting contributions of:
•
•


Bars of soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste
Ziploc bags & packets
Tea, coffee, sugar, soup to be put in mugs
Biscuits (please let Jean Chang know)
We would also welcome financial contributions towards the buying of various
items including: Epworth staff care packages, materials for bead bracelets, mugs
and paint for the mugs, tea, coffee, sugar and soup etc. Please mark any
contributions for “Mandela Day Service”
All enquiries to Luke Arnott (082 825 0553) or any of the other Deacons.
