Project Management for Civil Engineers
Project Management = Project Planning + Monitoring and Controlling
Project Management Is the art and science of mobilizing and managing 4M – Men,
Material, Machines and Money to complete the assigned project within the given
Timeline.
Project Planning
Project Planning means: Planning, Design, documenting and approval phases that are required to
complete the project
 Defining Responsibilities ( Architect , Consultants , Contractors)
 Defining the phases
 Calculating Activity duration
 Adding the logic links between activities
 Assigning resources and cost to activities
 Define calendars
 Create a work break down structure
 Preparing work schedules
 Developing an acceptable budget
Monitoring and controlling








Ensuring the project is being executed according to the plan
measuring performance
Compare the projects progress with the original plan
Suggesting correction action when needed
Inform the team about progress
Identifying the improvement of performance of team
Forecast Problems
Provide a base line by which progresses is measured
