A Message From the Mayor
On behalf of the Council for the Municipality of Kincardine,
it is a pleasure to welcome you to our community, a vibrant
agricultural centre and a naturally beautiful tourism region.
This is the home of the century-old Kincardine Scottish
Pipe Band and its weekly summer Saturday Night Parades, a
main street tradition for over six decades, which was also
named as one of Canada’s Top 25“Local Secrets, Big Finds” by
Travelocity.ca in 2007.
Also known for our remarkable Festivals and Events, take
in the Kincardine Scottish Festival being held July 5-7 and
the Mass Pipes and Drums Gathering, Aug. 24. Kincardine’s
harbour and beachfront beckon with an ever-expanding trail system, a spectacular
community-gardened boardwalk and heritage rock garden and a showcase
environmental park and labyrinth peace garden.
We invite you and your family to check out our fantastic recreational facilities, the
ever-challenging Inverhuron Bike Park and a surprising variety of indoor recreational
programs for all ages. Outdoor lovers will appreciate beautiful Inverhuron Provincial
Park, which boasts a superb beach, boat ramp and picnic areas.

Kincardine’s heritage is at the centre of what has made
it a lively community, with the ability to sustain highs
and lows since its inception as ‘Penetangore’ in 1848.
The name is believed to be the mispronunciation of an
Ojibway First Nation word that Scottish settlers
understood to mean “river with sand on one side.”
Kincardine was later renamed and incorporated as a
village in 1858. The community continued to grow with
the iconic lighthouse being constructed in 1881.
The town remained a proud lumber, salt, fishing,
furniture and agricultural hub and a gateway to Bruce
County for decades until the arrival of nuclear power in
1968. When Canada’s first commercial nuclear reactor
was built at Bruce Township’s Douglas Point, everything
changed.
The Bruce Nuclear Power Development changed the
face of the local economy and demographics of the
region through the construction of the eight nuclear
reactors at Bruce A and B sites between 1977 and 1987.
A dark time saw the town suffer through a recession in
the late 1990s after Bruce A was shutdown under the
former Ontario Hydro (now Ontario Power Generation).
But new life was breathed into the community in 2001
when Bruce Power was formed and the company leased
the nuclear site from OPG. Since then, Kincardine has
experienced a boom time from the Bruce A Restart of
Units 1&2, which was completed in 2012, making it the
largest nuclear facility in the world. Bruce Power hopes
future investment in refurbishment projects will continue
to extend the life of the site for generations to come.
Our community includes the Town of Kincardine, the
Village of Tiverton, along with the hamlets of Inverhuron,
Bervie, Armow, Millarton, Glammis, North Bruce and
Underwood. Take in camping at Inverhuron Provincial
Park, or the Brucedale Conservation Area. Drive through
the towering wind turbines of Bruce Township. Take a
walk through the seemingly-endless series of trails
through Kincardine. See all that there is to see!
Tiverton
Visit the Village of Tiverton, a vibrant community that
has been a hub in Bruce County for over 130 years.
Located in the Municipality of Kincardine at the junction
of Highway 21 and Bruce Road 15, the village offers many
unique shops, merchants, restaurants and services that are
worth the 10 minute drive north of town. Check out the
new St. Andrew’s Park, which was built for the 2009
Tiverton Old Boys and Girls Reunion and named after the
village’s original name. Pick up some chess or checkers
pieces and play a game by the fountain. Or maybe take a
scenic stroll down the Tiverton Walk of Memories near the
arena, stop by the Tiverton Lions Memorial Park or visit the
historic Knox Presbyterian Church.

Station Beach
Kincardine’s Station Beach and boardwalk are the pride of local
residents, who voluntarily patrol and care for the area.
Along the boardwalk leading to the pavilion you’ll see beautiful
gardens cared for by volunteers who showcase their talents for our
local and summer guests. Take a read of the descriptive plaques
along the boardwalk to learn a bit of history of the area. The wreck
of the schooner Ann Maria is nearly fully exposed south of the pier.
All but two souls perished when it sank on October 7, 1902. A Blue
Flag flies near the Kincardine Cairn and signifies compliance with
the internationally accredited program of the same name. At the
beach you’ll see kiteboarders, kayakers, swimmers, volleyballers,
sunbathers and those just out to enjoy the beauty. But swimmers
should be aware of the undertow and riptide, as it can be very
dangerous for swimmers if underestimated. The beach has a
snack bar, washrooms, fish cleaning station, children’s
playground equipment, scenic pavilions and lots of... sand.

Walker’s Lookout
The Kincardine Lighthouse is the most iconic building in the
Municipality of Kincardine and it has acted as a boater’s guide
to safety since it was erected between 1880 and 1881.
The uniquely combined tower and keeper’s quarters were
built to service the once busy fishing, salt and furniture port at
the time and is now an integral landmark in Lakeside
Downtown Kincardine. The eight-sided tower stands 24 metres
(74 feet) above the two-storey keeper’s quarters, which is built
on a stone foundation.
The three levels of the lighthouse are joined by almost
perpendicular, well-worn staircases totaling 69 steps, which
were climbed at least twice a day by lighthouse keepers. Barrels
of kerosene were once used to fuel the lamp and had to be
hoisted to these heights. The first lamp had shutters rotated by
weighted chains to make the light flash. In 1922, the lamp
became electrically powered and today utilizes a large 500watt lamp. Sailors, recreational boaters and commercial fishers
can see the light from a distance of 30 km. Managed by the
Kincardine Yacht Club, it now operates only as a marine museum
on a seasonable basis. Tours are available during the summer, or
by appointment. The range light on the north pier is now the
official beacon used by boaters. Next to the lighthouse is the
Huron Terrace Bridge that replaced the aging, obsolete 1934
structure in 2009. The 60-metre span now hosts what the
community voted as ‘Walker’s Lookout’ a wider, safer sidewalk
with room for the viewing of sunsets, fireworks and the
legendary Phantom Piper, who plays from atop the lighthouse
most summer evenings from July until Labour Day. It is named
after Paddy Walker, one of Kincardine’s most notable residents
whose 1850 inn sits as the town’s oldest building, museum and
heritage centre, just across the street from the Lighthouse.
Also, watch out for our town mascot, Blinky! He can be found
at almost any of the many community events throughout the
year, or trailing behind the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band every
Saturday night in the summer!

Kincardine Marina
and Boardwalk
The Kincardine Marina is one of the oldest historical marine gateways into
Bruce County and is based at the mouth of the Penetangore River.
Operated by the Kincardine Yacht Club (KYC), the marina features slips and
docks for boats of varying sizes, a fish cleaning station, boat launches,
washroom facilities, gazebos, picnic tables and barbeques for boaters. Fishing
charters are also an option for visitors. Next to the marina is beautiful Station
Beach and boardwalk along the former rail line, with flower gardens, volleyball
courts and a snack bar.
The harbour itself has changed significantly since the days of lumber, salt
and fish exports and now functions as a recreational harbour for seasonal and
transient boaters. Stop by and tour the Kincardine Fish Hatchery across the
street to see how volunteers keep the fish stocks strong (519-396-5833).

The 28th Fish Kincardine Derby is going
strong under its second year of management
with the Kincardine & District Chamber of
Commerce.
Taking place May 17-26, the event offers a
$5,000 shopping spree at Canadian Tire for the
top salmon, plus a number of other prizes
provided by dedicated local merchants. Top
salmon and trout each earn a $1,000 shopping
spree at Lake Huron Rod & Gun. Ladies’ Day is
May 18, Seniors ‘Day is May 23 and Kids’ Day is
May 25, with special prizes for each. Many other
deals will be taking place throughout
downtown Kincardine, including tax savings at
local merchants. Events at local restaurants
include a kick-off party with musical
entertainment, fish frys, wing nights, seafood
night and karaoke night, just to name a few.

Saturday Night Parade
The Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band marks 105
years as a band in 2013, as the band continues
marching and making history.
The Saturday Night Parades draw thousands
of people each week from the local area,
regionally and even from around the world,
starting on June 22 at 8 p.m. until Labour Day.
The parade begins on Durham Market Square
North and rounds the corner north on Queen
Street with thousands of people marching
behind the banner and watching from the
sidewalk. The parade makes its way to Quinn
Plaza to allow for a meet-and-greet with the
pipers and drummers. Marching back to Victoria
Park, the public can then enjoy a riveting concert
to wrap up the evening, including an
unforgettable version of ‘Amazing Grace’ that
will bring a tear to anyone’s eye.
The band represents an outstanding level of
dedication by volunteers who have kept it going
through hard times. Their repertoire features
between 40 to 50 tunes, which change up while
on the street each week.
The group is as symbiotic with Kincardine as
the Lighthouse, where their members play the
sun down as the Phantom Piper most nights
throughout the summer, except Saturdays. Both
events, along with the outstanding Mass Pipes
and Drums Gathering festival in August, share
the spotlight as the trademarks of the oldest
street band with unbroken service in Ontario.
The Kincardine Scottish also takes pride in
welcoming anyone interested in learning the
pipe and drums.
The band was founded by William Young in
1907, but didn’t take to the streets until 1908.
At that time the fledgling band practiced in
what was recently purchased by Sugar Shack
Tattoo. The pipe band is a charitable organization
and is always looking for donations.

from June 29 through to Labour Day weekend. If you take a stroll in front of the Kincardine Library, you’ll
see the landmark Sundial to ‘Mark the Sunny Hours’ in honour of the beloved Dr.
Solomon Secord, Kincardine physician and Civil War surgeon. Take some time to
walk down Princes Street to see the Gothic and Victorian architecture by beautiful
Victoria Park. It’s also just a short walk to the beach!

Heritage Walking Tours
Heritage Kincardine has produced a 51-page Heritage Walking
Tour Book, for those who are interested in meandering our quiet
streets and learning the stories of our many historic homes and
businesses.
The Guide is made up of six different ‘Walks’ breaking up the
tour by area for your convenience. So you can learn a little, or
learn a lot! The guide includes photos, addresses and a small
map. The Walking Tour Guides are available to be picked up at
the Kincardine Tourism office or can be downloaded from

22nd Gathering of the Bands
The 22nd ‘Gathering of the Bands’ is set for August 24 at Victoria Park.
What started as a gesture of thanks to the community from the Kincardine Scottish Pipe
Band now draws pipe bands and other musical acts from across Ontario for the 12-hour
Mass Pipes and Drums Gathering Festival. It’s also one of the area’s biggest events.
Take the day to relax in Victoria Park to the sounds of over a dozen pipe bands, the
Toronto All Star Big Band and various other Celtic entertainers from the Kincardine Lions
gazebo. Over 3,000 people turn out during the noon to midnight event with thousands
more gathering for the Mass Band Parade. A refreshment tent keeps pipers
and beer drinkers satisfied all day long. The main event takes place at 8 p.m.
when upwards of 200 pipers and drummers join together as the Mass Band,
creating a thunderous, echoing sound as they march throughout the historic
downtown. The band then returns to the park for a concert as a group,
before dispersing. Meet the band members after the event and share a
beverage. With no admission to enter and only $6 for all-you-can-eat hot dogs
and corn on the cob, it’s a day away that has little cost, but a lot of value to
families, couples and singles alike. Don’t forget a lawn chair.

Walker House Museum
Located in the heart of the town’s heritage district on Harbour Street, directly across
from the Lighthouse, Walker House is the oldest building in town and the oldest
standing hotel and tavern in Bruce and Grey counties. Built in 1850 by Francis “Paddy”
Walker, the building was severely damaged by a fire in 1995.
It was purchased in 1998 by the newly-established Paddy Walker Heritage Society
with a vision to restore it as a heritage centre. Over the next 10 years hundreds of
community volunteers painstakingly donated their skills, labour, materials and dollars
and Walker House proudly re-opened its doors as a museum at the 2008 Old Boys
Reunion. The Walker House Exhibit Committee plans and creates many permanent and
changing displays for visitors to enjoy throughout the building, featuring the history
of Walker House and the development of Kincardine area. There are 15 rooms with
heritage displays including a room with a photographic display mounted by Heritage
Kincardine. The Program and Events Committee organizes children’s programmes, arts
and craft activities, heritage speakers, pub nights and music presentations throughout
the year so our building is always busy.

Kincardine Trails System
On a bright sunny summer afternoon, take a stroll through one of the many
Kincardine Trails. The winding system features 22 km of all-season trails within the
Town of Kincardine. Experience an outdoor escape not too far from home with the
various routes winding all the way down to the lakeshore. A large portion of the
trails are treed, providing excellent shade on those hot summer days. From
downtown, Geddes Environmental Park by Queen Street bridge is a great spot to
get started. Take a walk through the unique Labyrinth Peace Garden before you set
off. Look for entrance signs off major roads to get started on your adventure. Keep
your eyes peeled for wildlife as there are many different species sharing the trails.
Labyrinth Peace Garden and Community Garden
The Kincardine Labyrinth Peace Garden is located in the heart of Kincardine at
Geddes Environmental Park. This labyrinth, known as the ‘Chalice’ design, has
sculpted gardens and paths based on a Classical Labyrinth pattern, similar to the
design of one in the cathedral at Chartres, France. The flowers that border the paths
of the Labyrinth Peace Garden emerge in a rainbow of colour, evoking subtle
energies that quiet the mind and allow the inner wisdom to be heard.
Right next to the Labyrinth is the Kincardine Community Garden, now in its
second year. Local people rent plots in the garden to grow their own fruits,
vegetables and herbs during the year. At the end of the season, the garden group
sometimes holds a ‘Stone Soup’ lunch with produce picked directly from the
organic garden.

Farmers’ Markets
Buy some of the best local produce around! Visit the
Farmers’ Market every Saturday during the summer from
9 a.m. to noon at the Connaught Park fairgrounds, located
west of Queen Street at the base of Broadway Street. The
expanding event is always looking for more local
producers and vendors to showcase their products, in an
effort to strengthen the ‘Buy Local’ revolution.
Admission is free, so come shop for fresh, local fruits,
vegetables, meat products and baking, as well as
homemade crafts. You won’t leave empty-handed!

Ceud mile failte!
The Kincardine Scottish Festival & Highland Games has become a tradition
in Lakeside Downtown Kincardine. Celebrating its 14th year, celebrate
Scottish heritage and culture at historic Victoria Park in the scenic downtown
core from July 5-7, 2013.
There’s something for everyone at the festival. From the Pipe Bands, to
Heavy Events, to Highland Dancing, everyone in the family will enjoy
themselves! Regalia and food vendors hail from across the province to sell
their wares of Scotland. A jaunt down Clan Avenue will lead to those who
share their family roots. Festivities begin on Friday evening, the Opening
Ceremonies will kick off the evening’s musical entertainment. Saturday’s events
feature the three competitions spread out across historic Victoria Park. With over
20 pipe bands competing, the sounds of Scotland echo across town. Bands are
judged and ranked into grades according to skill. Highland Dancers take the
stage with dramatic flings and graceful movements. Dancers are awarded
merit for their appearance, position and execution of graceful dance moves.
At the Heavy Events, burly men and steady women compete with
athleticism in the caber toss, stone and hammer throw, which is a sight not
be missed. For a second year, the ‘Heavies’ will take place at lakeside
Reunion Park, just steps from Station Beach. Cabers the size of telephone
poles will be tossed, hammers will be thrown great distances while the
athletes will shot-put stones the size of bowling balls. Don’t miss the
children’s area with games and activities.
The Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band transitions into the evening
musical entertainment Friday and Saturday night. This year’s musical
acts feature a rousing lineup of bands who pump out rocking Celtic
tunes and gentle ballads from the Highlands. The Scottish Festival is
an affordable family event rich in tradition, heritage and excitement.

Lighthouse Blues Festival
The 4th Annual Bruce Telecom Lighthouse Blues Festival returns to Lakeside Downtown
Kincardine Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13.
The two-day event continues to expand and attract more visitors every year, with four
performance stages in 2013. This year’s festival will have its main stage in the rear parking
lot of the Bruce Steakhouse both Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 p.m. to midnight.
On Saturday afternoon from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the free BIA Street Festival with three
performance stages, a Motorcycle Show and Shine, a British vintage sports car display, art
exhibitors, retailer’s Street Market and the TD Children’s Art Zone. All of the family-friendly
activity takes place on historic Queen Street, stretching from Lambton St. South down to Victoria
Park and includes the Lions gazebo in the park.
The Bruce Telecom Lighthouse Blues Festival features top international and national touring
blues artists including Victor Wainwright (Memphis), Anthony Gomes (St. Louis), Bryan Lee
(New Orleans), JP Soars (Boca Raton), Bill Durst (London), Delta Moon (Atlanta) and many more.
The Lighthouse Blues Festival is a non-profit organization with proceeds in support of the
Kincardine District Lions Club. In 2012 the festival donated $10,000 to the Kincardine Lions
Splash Pad project, which. Admission to the mainstage performances is $25 for one night, $40
for the weekend pass.

Victoria Park & Scougall Galleries
The arts are a valued part of the Municipality of
Kincardine and local artists showcase their work at
the Victoria Park Gallery, located in the newlyrenovated Kincardine Centre for the Arts.
From photography, to paintings, sculptures and
artwork from a variety of mediums, the gallery is a
place to stop, shop and come back often. Artists
proudly display their work, with featured artists
regularly showcased.
The legendary work of Kincardine’s John H. Scougall
can been seen through his representation of the
community in the turn-of-the century photography
available. Scougall immortalized the community
during the early days of film, by capturing scenes,
emotions and landscapes that will be viewed for

Challenge your physical strength and
endurance on two wheels by taking up
mountain biking through the now complete
Inverhuron Mountain Bike Park.
The adventures begin in May when the
21-acre park opens for the season. You don’t
need to be an experienced mountain biker as
there are trails for everyone, but check out the
map to get a grasp at what area fits your riding
skill and experience. The current trails feature a
medium level of difficulty with skilled trails,
practice trails, dirt jumps, wooden ‘skinnies’
platforms and teeter totters.
It is mandatory to wear a helmet and if
caught without one, you will be asked to leave.
Protective equipment is also recommended. The
site is located on the east end of Richards Drive
by Woodland Camp Trailer Park.

Kincardine Rock Garden
The Kincardine Rock Garden is located at the base of Durham Street and
Saugeen Street, and should not be missed!
The garden was built in 1931, using 190 tons of stone. The gardens have
become a well known focal point in town for both photographers and green
thumbs! The gardens are beautifully landscaped, and the flowers used are in
full bloom all season long. Take a walk just north of the Rock Garden, and you
will happen upon Lovers Lane. The lane provides the setting for a peaceful,
romantic stroll along the waterfront. Lovers Lane is also landscaped with
stone and flowers similar to the Rock Garden. Lovers Lane follows the length
of Saugeen Street to Broadway Street.

Thousands flock to Lakeside Downtown Kincardine to see the hundreds of classic
and exotic cars, trucks and motorcycles that converge during the Friday night Cruise
Nights that take place on three occasions throughout the summer.
This year the nights sit on June 28, Aug. 2 and Aug. 30. Shows run 6-9 p.m. There’s
always a great selection of rides, with vendors and draws put on by local merchants.
It’s a great opportunity to have photos taken of your
vehicle, or take some of the many others from across
generations as no classic, custom or unique vehicle is

people of Huron-Kinloss Township in the Village of Ripley, and the shoreline
areas leading south to Point Clark.
Boiler Beach is a notable stop on any visit, just south of Kincardine, where
the hulking steel wreck of the Erie Belle’s boiler sits as a memorial to the four
who died, of a crew of 12, when the steamer exploded while towing the
schooner Carter from a sand bar on a cold day in November, 1883.
Across Highway 21 and up Highway 6 takes you to Ripley, where unique
shops, restaurants and artisans greet visitors kindly. Check out the splash pad
at Lewis Park or maybe pack a picnic. The Suncor/Acciona Ripley Wind Power
project turbines can be seen towering around the village. Down the road
further you’ll end up turning towards the lakeshore and the historic Point
Clark Lighthouse, an imperial tower and National Historic Site over 150 years
of age and counting.

Kincardine’s Station Beach can surprisingly keep up with some
of Canada’s coastal surf spots and is listed as one of the top five
places in all of Canada to enjoy various types of surfing. Keep in
mind, the weather plays a huge part in the swell size and breaks
here, but plan it out and you can find yourself with some solid
10-foot waves.
Explore Magazine ranked Kincardine’s Station Beach as second
in the country in a ‘Where to Surf in Canada’ article, behind Long
Beach in Tofino, British Columbia! The beach is also noted as a
kitesurfing haven on tropical-paradise-kitesurfing.com, and one
of ‘Canada’s Top Surf Spots’ on redbull.ca! Take your gear down to
the massive south pier stretching out into the lake. Take a graceful
jump off, and should the weather be on your side, you’ll be
surfing in no time. Keep a watchful eye out for the exposed
remains of the Ann Maria, shipwrecked on the beach south of the
pier more than a 100 years ago. After surfing in Kincardine you
can enjoy a hot shower at the beach and then a cold beverage at
a local restaurant in Lakeside Downtown Kincardine, which is
only minutes by foot. If you’re an avid surfer, you can score some
good bragging points for saying you surfed the Great Lakes.

Kincardine Summer Music Festival
Celebrating its 22nd anniversary Aug. 4-16, 2013, this fabulous concert
series features Jazz, Blues, Classical, World and Chamber Music performances
combined with daytime music education programs to produce a unique
musical event.

Teddy Bear
Parade
The 18th Kincardine Teddy Bear Parade
draws hundreds of children and their
families each year, with wagons, bicycles
and all methods of transportation suited
up with their favourite stuffed bears.
A police escort leads the way from
Victoria Park, north on Princes Street,
before returning back on Queen Street so
children can show off their bears to the
community. It’s a family event that all
ages can enjoy!
This year’s event is June 15, with
registration at 9:30 a.m. at the parade at
10 a.m. Rain date is June 17 at 1 p.m.

Music in the Park &
Sunday Sing Alongs
Kincardine’s lakeside Dunsmoor Park
offers opportunities for family fun two
days of the week, all summer long.
Located by the beach around the
bend from Lambton and Durham
streets, the park is named after the late
Norm Dunsmoor, a multiple Citizen of
the Year winner, an avid singer and a
veteran of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe
Band for over 52 years.
Wednesday’s Music in the Park
during July and August offers an instrumental music treat with a different
band every week. The music begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Sunday Night Sing Alongs are a light-hearted way to enjoy the sunset
during July and August, so bring a lawn chair and enjoy the show. Singing
starts at 7:30 p.m.
KinDOG Off-Leash Dog Park
Does your pooch need to burn some energy and socialize with resident dogs
during your Kincardine vacation? The KinDOG Off-Leash Dog Park was built in 2009
and offers a fully fenced-off park with approximately two acres of open fields and
wooded areas. The area is the perfect place to let your dogs unwind and exercise in a
controlled area. To find it, follow Queen Street south from downtown, turn left at the
end of Queen onto Bruce Avenue. The park is located on the right after the cemetery.
The parking lot is located next to soccer fields and baseball diamond. Please remember to clean up after your

The 13th Annual Kincardine
Women’s Triathlon will welcome
women from near and far to compete
for the coveted title.
This exciting spectator event takes
place July 13 and is a celebration of a
lifestyle for its participants. The event
begins with the piping in of
participants, followed by a dash into
Lake Huron for the swimming portion.
Athletes then take to their bicycles for
a stretch before rounding off the
triathlon with a run to the finish.
The event begins at 9

enough space for 300 eager
athletes, but the event
filled up the first day of

Kincardine Theatre Guild
For nearly 30 years the Kincardine Theatre
Guild (KTG) has been delighting audiences
from near and far with its broad range of
productions.
Each show demonstrates the talents of
many local actors and crew members
that volunteer their time to make each
performance a memorable one. This
spring, Enchanted April takes to the
stage May 30-31, June 1, 6-8. This fall
the guild will tackle Oliver: The Musical
from Nov. 14-16, 17, 21-23, 24, 28-30. The
theatre season runs from September to June and produces
three shows each season. The Guild was born in 1982 when a small group of
residents responded to the need for live theatre in the community. KTG is a wholly
volunteer, non-profit, fun, community theatre company run by an elected Board of
Directors. It has since climbed to an award-winning level that is envied by both professional
and semi-professional theatre groups.We love it when you come to the theatre!

The Bluewater Summer Playhouse is Kincardine’s professional summer
theatre group. Each year the organization draws visitors from near and far to
see a line-up of comedies and musicals that split sides and get toes tapping.
The professional acting and performances at Bluewater make it a unique
experience for each patron, whether a first-time theatre-goer or a regular each
year. Patrons enjoy shows in a cabaret setting with refreshments of their choice.
The facility is air conditioned and wheelchair accessible in the newly renovated
Kincardine Centre for the Arts!
This summer will feature Best Legs in a Kilt, Hot Stuff, Country Jukebox, The
Queen of Kincardine, Murder at the Inn at the Harbour and Vegas Nights, with
dates featured inside the event listing. The Summer Drama Camp will once
again run for three weeks in July, offering young people a taste of acting and
performance.

Chantry Chinook Classic
Pull those fishing poles off the shelf and get the boat
ready for the 30th Annual Chantry Chinook Classic
Salmon Derby, Saturday July 27 to Sunday August 11.
This is Lake Huron’s largest fishing derby with
participants hitting the waters anywhere between
Kincardine and Pike Bay. With over $125,000 in prizes to
be won during the 17-day event, there is a day for
everyone. An extra day of fishing has been added this
year, ending the event on a Sunday. Top salmon nets
$14,000, while top trout hooks a $6,000 prize. The
Largest Rainbow Trout prize pack is valued
at $2,500. A junior (youth) $500 prize for
largest salmon is available. Other prizes
include: second place salmon - $4,000 and
third place - $2,000. First place trout $6,000; second place - $1,500 and third
place - $750. Weigh-in stations are located
in Kincardine, Saugeen Shores and Pike Bay.

Hatchery
Ever wonder how Lake Huron stays so vibrant with healthy
fish? Take a tour through the Lake Huron Fishing Club’s Trout
Hatchery and see first hand the different stages of a trout’s life.
The Hatchery, located at the southeast corner of the Huron
Terrace Bridge, is open every day, but at different hours. The
facility raises Rainbow and Brown Trout and while on a tour, you
will see their different life stages and learn how they populate
Lake Huron. You will also learn some of the changes that are
happening to Lake Huron and see examples of invasive species
that are causing problems in the lake, such as zebra mussels. If
you happen to stop by on a sunny day and it’s open, pop in and
one of the volunteers will be more than happy to give you a tour.

Local Fall Fairs
Kincardine’s 161st Fall Fair will be held from Aug. 30-31, with lots
of affordable family fun throughout the weekend. With events like
the Dog Show, Parade, pedal tractor pull, horse jumping and bale
rolling. This day away in Kincardine is packed with family fun,
animals, food and agricultural displays.
The 152nd annual Tiverton Fall Fair is one of the best in the area
and takes place Oct. 4-5. With something for every family, a midway,
children’s activities, animals and many agricultural and farming
displays, competitions and entertainment, it’s one event not to miss!

four great golf courses.
• The Kincardine Golf and Country Club, located
just off West Street in Kincardine, is a semi-private,
nine hole course which measures about 3,000 yards.
The oldest golf course in the area, this club offers
power cart rental, a pro-shop and licensed club
house with a patio.
• Blackhorse Golf and Country Resort, just east of
Kincardine, on Bruce County Road 1 was called “one
of the top new courses in Ontario” in 2008 by
SCOREGolf magazine. The 6,836-yard course which
offers dramatic views and the challenge of playing around a 5-acre spring-fed lake.
The course has six ponds, 50 bunkers and four sets of tees on every hole.
• Ainsdale Golf Course is a popular course with tourists and residents alike, located
south of Kincardine on Hwy. 21. The 18 holes lie on scenic, rolling terrain on the
shores of Lake Huron and measures 6442 yards, long enough to challenge the best
golfers. The large number of water and sand hazards in play throughout the course
makes sure that things always stay interesting. Whether you’re up for a round of 9
holes, or 18, Ainsdale meets your needs.
• Ainsdale’s sister course - Somerhill Golf Course, is located north of Kincardine and
is again a popular course among residents and tourists alike. This course offers 9
holes with some wonderful views during your round. The course measures 5,700
yards. The large number of water hazards in play throughout the course makes sure
that things always stay interesting.

out!
The Municipality of Kincardine has numerous camping
opportunities for any outdoor enthusiast.
Inverhuron Provincial Park reopened to overnight
camping in 2005 after 29 years as a day-use site. The 750acre park features 125 electrical sites, a series of trails and
a picnic shelter. The park features a beach with protected
dunes, wetlands and a young hardwood forest. The park
also has a history, as natives used the land for thousands
of years. In the 1800’s, a small town was located in what is
now part of the provincial park.

Brucedale Conservation Area features lakeside camping
north of Tiverton off of Hwy 21 between Bruce Twp. Con.
10 and 12. The campground offers 54 sites for tents and
small trailers and 23 seasonal sites that are open May until
Thanksgiving. A total of 35
electrical sites are available.
The 40-hectare day-use Stoney
Island Conservation Area was purchased by Saugeen
Conservation in 1977. The property is located approximately
5km north of Kincardine along the Lake Huron shoreline.
Stoney Island contains approximately 6 km of nature trails
which welcome public use on a year-round basis for crosscountry skiing and hiking.
Fall, Winter and beyond
While our summer residents may leave, many more enjoy calling Kincardine home year-round.
Every fall many shoulder-season events usher in the falling of the leaves. The Artful Hands event
brings together over 20 local artists. Remembrance Day is always a significant event to witness in
Kincardine. The Kincardine Theatre Guild is active all season long, adding many much-needed laughs
during the darker days of winter. Leading up to Christmas, the Santa Claus Parade and Hometown
Christmas offer two traditional events to blow away the winter blahs. As the New Year passes, the
community keeps busy with many other events, with many new activities on Family Day. In early spring,
the Kincardine Home and Garden Show winds people up for spring, and before you know it we’re right
back where we started! Kincardine is a busy place year round!
