Welcome to Langesund,
welcome to Bamble, welcome to
the port of Telemark.
Strategically located at the
junction of the Telemark Canal
and the North Sea, Langesund
has always been defined by international exchange of goods,
ideas and people. Historically
Langesund has been a hotspot
for Norwegian shipbuilding and
exporter of timber, ice, salt,
fish and seafood. In modern
times the identity and economic
foundation of Langesund has
shifted from industry and natural resources towards culture,
creativity and tourism.
For the last 30 years Langesund
has been important scene for
pop- and rock music in Norway.
Wrightegaarden, our main
venue, has hosted international
artists like Leonard Cohen, Bob
Dylan, A-ha, and Elton John.
This summer Beth Hart, 10CC,
Midnight Choir and, Lars
Winnerbäck and many more will
create unforgettable moments
at Wrightegaarden.
In addition to the many rockand pop concerts, Langesund is
home to lot of festivals in
different genres. If you’re
into gospel you can attend
Norway’s biggest gospel festival,
Skjærgårdssang. If you’re into
shanties, you can sing along at
Langesund
International Shanty Festival.
The list is long and it’s growing.
In 2013 the municipality of
Bamble set a bold goal for
the future development of
Langesund. Our ambition is
that Langesund is going to be
the most important town for
music and festivals in Norway.
Langesund love festivals!
Because we love festivals and
because our ambition is to be
Norway’s most important town
for music and festivals, we
cherish every new festival that
comes our way.
I am proud and delighted that
the 2nd International Youth
Film Festival has chosen
Langesund as its location.
I wish to congratulate the
organizers of the festival, and
express my deepest gratitude
to both the organizers and
the participants for bringing
your talent to Langesund and
to help build our future!
Sincerely
Hallgeir Kjeldal
Mayor
