Class winner in the 1932 Mille Miglia: one of the first Alfa Romeos to be prepared
and entered by the newly-created Scuderia Ferrari at its Modena base. Driven

1933 Monte Carlo Rally Entered
1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
Continental Sportsman’s Coupe
by Barker & Co
Ordered new by serial Rolls buyer
Capt. J.F.C. Kruse, 42 GX build sheets
denote the chassis to be ‘absolutely
as fast as it is possible to make it’.
The next owner, R.H.W. Jaques
used the Continental on the 1932
RAC 1000 mile Rally and permitted
Brooklands 120mph badge holder
Margaret Allen to campaign the car
on the Monte Carlo Rally in 1933.
Passing through just three further
ownerships to the current family
in 1997, the car has recently been
the subject of a concours winning
restoration.

1913 Isotta Fraschini Tipo KM 120hp Sports Tourer
A splendid surviving example of the finest quality Italian highperformance pioneer, technically derived from aero engine design,

The ex-Pierre Boncompagni ‘Pagnibon’, Ecurie Nice
1939 Talbot-Lago T150C-SS
Bonhams & Butterfields is extremely
pleased to present the Ex-Pierre
Boncompagni ‘Pagnibon’, Ecurie Nice
1939 Talbot-Lago T150 C-SS as one
of the star consignments of Quail
Lodge. This extraordinary motorcar
is one of only four such examples
of Portout’s coachwork fitted to
the famous Talbot-Lago T150 C-SS
chassis and designed by Georges
Paulin, whose innovative coachwork
‘cheated the wind’ and produced
such brilliant motorcars as the
‘Embiricos’ Bentley.
The post-war racing success achieved
by this pre-war Talbot is a
testament both to Paulin’s
progressive coachwork design and
to the superior driving skill of the
famous ‘gentleman racer’ known to
his fans simply as ‘Pagnibon’ who
campaigned this racing machine as
part of the Ecurie Nice. Participating
in AGACI events in Southern France
with ‘Pagnibon’ behind the wheel,
this motorcar frequently found
itself adorned with the laurels of a
champion.
This August will be the first time that
this historic motorcar has been
offered for sale publicly, having been
in long-term ownership with the
current owner since 1962. Bonhams
& Butterfields presentation of this
celebrated racing machine represents
an extraordinary opportunity to
purchase one of George Paulin’s
design masterpieces in highly
original condition.
