The vote in May was to accept the Reserve Study. This is used as a guide to what money needs
to be put aside for future repairs and replacement of equipment. This should be considered as a
savings account for future needs. The article report that was included with the Annual
Assessment stated the Association’s reserves appear adequately funded.
The salaries of our employees are not made public because the PPPOA is a private corporation

The PPPOA has two staff members that are certified in POA management and additional
training for other staff has taken place in the last three years. We have a very qualified staff to
run the PPPOA.
The Board members are volunteers and are here because they care about the people that live
here. They want to hear from everyone. They have all been elected to the Board. Thank you all
that took time to come to the last board meeting. Hope to see more attend all the meetings.
Trails
by Wade Killingsworth
This month we have more than our typical two hikes. We have our
annual booth at the POA Yard Sale, we will be finishing up our
fourth bridge across Middle Butte Creek, we will have a morning
hike and a twilight hike.
Each year we have an information booth at the POA Yard Sale. At
the booth we have information on the Trails Committee, how you
can help, POA Greenbelt and Trails Maps for sale and the book "The Flumes and
Trails of Paradise" also for sale. The maps are $10 each and the book is $25 - an 8%
discount over retail. The yard sale this year is on Saturday August 20th - see you
there.
During the first few weeks of August we will be finishing construction of our fourth
bridge across Middle Butte Creek. The construction is a little behind schedule
because we decided to change the bridge design. This new bridge will be featured
on our twilight hike this month.
For our first hike of the month meet on Saturday August 6 at 8:00am on Carnegie
where the Greenbelt crosses Carnegie - this is on Carnegie between Grinnell and
Essex Courts. This hike will take us into Slaughterhouse Ravine along one of our
year-round streams and beyond. For our second hike of the month meet on Saturday
August 20 at Colter and Masterson at 5:00pm. This hike will take us into Middle
Butte Creek Canyon and feature our new bridge.

Our last BOD meeting was a lively one indeed. The
recreation hall was filled to capacity with a number of
highly animated members, mostly concerned about the
most recent assessment increase. We were fortunate in
that the PPPOA council was present to explain how
the reserve study was made and how it had been
misunderstood by many of the membership.
Just a comment on my part: The BOD exists to serve the membership,
primarily to oversee the management and certain elements of staff,
financial and ACC. The BOD is really concerned about the concerns
of the membership and we encourage attendance at all BOD meetings

Greenbelt Update
August 2016
by Terry Wild
The Committee has attracted 2 new members in July.
Philip Headley and Greg Warner decided they wanted a
workout on Mondays and Thursdays from 8am till
11:30am. Thanks for joining the team, guys, we were
getting a little short on help. In the coming month(s),
“The Tree Guy” Greg Liu and his “band of married men”
will be cutting dead infected trees behind Cluster Court
and between Ferguson Drive and W. Park Drive. The Committee is
finishing up a cleanup project in the southern portion of the Andover
Drive Greenbelt, as the bordering neighbors can attest to. The Committee
is always looking for a few good men/women, so don’t hesitate to join us
in the woods for exercise and the thrill of watching BIG trees fall (in the
right/correct direction). If you’d like to join us, please meet us on Monday
or Thursday behind the Rec hall at the garage, between 8 and 8:30am or
call Terry at 873-6590 or [email protected].

The Architectural Control Committee has been
receiving many calls lately regarding fire hazardous
properties. Properties such as those having high dry
weeds, leaves, pine needles, low hanging dead
branches, debris on the roof, etc. Please be
conscientious of the high fire danger this time of year
and keep your property free of fire hazardous debris.
If you have any questions, please give me a call, I will be happy to help
you.

Public Safety Committee
With the onslaught of another fire season the Public Safety Committee would like to remind everyone in the Paradise Pines Property
Owners Association as well as those living on the upper ridge of the emergency evacuation zones established by Butte County Fire.
Basically, twelve zones have been instituted which contain five assembly points covering an area from Old Magalia to Sterling City. As
an example, The South Pines Zone would utilize the Pines Elementary School/Mountain Ridge Middle School as it’s assembly point in
the case of emergency.
Free maps of these zone areas available in the administrative offices of the PPPOA as well as other useful information concerning fire
prevention, evacuation planning and fire safety.
The PSC wishes everyone dwelling on the upper ridge thoroughly familiarize themselves with this viral fire information as
information is power and nobody wants to be powerless in a emergency.
Here are a couple of phone numbers the committee hopes will be of assistance in case of an emergency.
Cal Fire 530-224-2489

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Public Safety Committee should attend the next

Summer is here for sure, as I write this, just a few days before the 4th of
July, it’s nearing 100 degrees outside, thank goodness for the air
conditioner. The MBA celebrated our 19th birthday once again at the
lovely home and garden of Judy and Bob Blue. But what a surprise, the
days was cold and overcast. Not he kind of weather your expect in late
June, however our shared fellowship kept everyone warm and a good
time was had by all.
The MBA’s gardens are in full bloom, with a riot of colors, shapes and
bees. Very nice to see them going about their important work, also seeing lots of butterflies this year, another great pollinator.

Our July meeting was our new installation of officers. The PPWC held
their July general meeting/luncheon at the Paradise Elks’ Lodge on the
19th and installed the new 2016-2017 board. August is DARK; our
meetings will resume in September – location to be announced. The
PPWC holds our monthly meeting/luncheons on the third Tuesday of each
month (except August).
To reserve a seat, please call Mary Ellen Reed at 530-877-2192. The
price of the luncheon is $14.00. Most often, we offer entertainment or
interesting speakers. The meetings begin at 11:30 and end around
1:30. The annual dues for the Paradise Pines Women’s Club are only
$10.00 per year! In addition to fun and friendship, the PPWC raises
money throughout the year and then gives donations to our community in
September. This year, we will be giving out checks totaling $5,500 to
recipients such as the Paradise and Magalia volunteer fire departments,
local food banks, the Paradise Senior Center, PASH, the Gold Nugget
Museum and several others.
A tip, to rejuvenate annuals that have become tall and skinny, cut them
back hard and give them a shot of 5-10-5 fertilizer every two weeks.
This will get them going again with new growth and flowers. This also
works for California poppies, after the spring bloom cut back hard and
you will get a new bloom, smaller flowers but still very pretty in a few
short weeks. This is a good time to save seeds from plants that you
would like to get a denser show of flowers next spring. If you haven’t
Come join us!
pruned you spring-blooming shrubs yet you had better get to it. It’s best
to do it in the cooler part of the day, either morning or evening.
Our club goes, “dark” in August, like many others, as members go on
vacations or just take it easy. However, we do have a workshop meeting
for members in preparation for The Gold Nugget Museum’s “Days of
Living History” which takes place in early September. We will be
prepping 300 wooden blocks, which will be made into “Tin Art”, attendees will be able to take them home after creating their piece. This is
always a very popular booth at the fair. Of course, we still need to take
care of the gardens, so as you can see, it’s still a busy month for us all.

Pinochle Player’s News
If you’ve never played BUNCO, it’s a dice game
that is very easy to learn and a great game in
which to meet new people. The way we play it
at the POA is with four players at four tables and
you are constantly moving from table to table
which gives you a chance to get acquainted with
everyone, especially since it’s not a very serious
game and lends itself to conversation since
concentration is not really necessary with this
game.
We welcome all POA members who like to play
single-deck to come join us for an evening of fun and
sociability at 7:00 p.m. Friday evenings in the POA
Library.
The POA Line Dancers also hold a Line Dance Party
on the third Friday of each month at the POA
Recreation Hall. The party starts at 7:00 p.m., and
lasts until around 9:00 p.m. We dance all levels of
the dances taught in the different classes. We ask that
each dancer pay a small admission fee and bring a
platter of finger food to share. For more information
about classes or fees, please call Sylvia Carter,
872-4563. Remember that line dancing is healthy,
happy, and fun, as well as mentally stimulating. See
you on the dance floor!
No reservations are necessary. Refreshments served at
break-time, offering players social time. We need more

Quilter’s Roundup
would like to work on that, please feel free to join us at
our weekly meetings. We also have some very interesting
discussions that have nothing to do with knitting or crocheting.
If you need help with anything concerning either knitting
or crocheting, we have ladies who will be willing to help
you even if you don’t want to join our group on a regular
basis.
We go to lunch every last Tuesday of the month to celebrate the birthday of the member, or members, who have a
birthday in the month.
If you would like any additional information, please feel
