Group Managing Director's message
Perutusan Timbalan Pengerusi/
Pengarah Urusan Kumpulan
Staf Boustead yang dihargai,
Dear fellow Bousteadians,
The financial year 2011 has indeed been a very exciting one. Barely
a few months into the new year and we have ventured into new
areas, strengthened existing ones and more importantly improved
our prospects enormously. As a conglomerate that is committed
to enhancing shareholder value, we must ensure our shareholders
benefit from the efforts of the entire Group.
To improve our organisational structure and strengthen the Group’s
viability, we have restructured our six Divisions as per the following:
1) Plantation
2) Heavy Industries
3) Property
4) Finance & Investment
5) Pharmaceutical
6) Manufacturing & Trading
The acquisition of Pharmaniaga from UEM has been successfully
completed. This exercise will give us a stronger footing in the
pharmaceutical industry and allow the Group to further develop
the Pharmaceutical Division. Pharmaniaga has a strong position
in the pharmaceutical industry and currently has a presence in 38
sites across Malaysia and internationally, including Indonesia and
Vietnam. We expect that this Division will be a significant contributor
to our bottom-line and strengthen Boustead’s earnings potential in
the coming year.
We have expanded our interests into the local aviation industry with
the recent acquisition of MHS Aviation Berhad. This will strengthen
Boustead’s involvement in the oil and gas sector and we are confident
given its track record that MHS will prove a positive addition to the
Group.
Clearly, there are many prospects for Boustead and to fulfil these
opportunities, we are strengthening our talent pool by bringing in
the right professionals who will help us in our quest to grow our
businesses. I also call upon Bousteadians who have been with the
Group for some time to strengthen their energy level and contribute
to our further growth.
Tahun kewangan 2011 ternyata merupakan tahun yang sangat
menarik. Tidak sampai beberapa bulan kita memasuki tahun
baru, kita telahpun menerokai bidang baru, mengukuhkan bidang
sedia ada dan yang lebih penting lagi meningkatkan prospek kita
dengan ketara. Sebagai sebuah konglomerat yang komited untuk
meningkatkan nilai pemegang saham, kita perlu memastikan
agar para pemegang saham kita mendapat manfaat daripada
usaha Kumpulan keseluruhannya.
Untuk memperbaiki struktur organisasi kita dan mengukuhkan
daya maju Kumpulan, kita telah menstruktur semula enam
Bahagian kita seperti berikut:
1) Perladangan
2) Industri Berat
3) Hartanah
4) Kewangan & Pelaburan
5) Farmaseutikal
6) Pembuatan & Perdagangan
usaha kita mengembangkan perniagaan-perniagaan kita. Saya
juga menyeru kepada staf Boustead yang telah lama berkhidmat
dengan Kumpulan untuk meningkatkan tahap tenaga mereka
dan menyumbang kepada pertumbuhan kita selanjutnya.
Insya-Allah it will be a very good year for the Group and for all of us
as long as we stay focused and are constant in our efforts.
Selagi kita sentiasa fokus dan kukuh dalam usaha-usaha kita,
Insya-Allah tahun ini akan menjadi tahun yang sangat baik untuk
Kumpulan dan juga untuk kita semua.

T
he University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) recently
launched the SAHZ-Nottingham NANO Super-capacitor Pilot Plant,
a project to produce nano technology super-capacitor, which could
store more energy than the usual one. The pilot plant was launched by
former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Y.A.Bhg. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad
at the University’s campus in Semenyih on 11 January 2011.
The SAHZ-Nottingham NANO Super-capacitor Pilot Plant was
established in 2007, following the award of RM6.5 million Technofund
grant by the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI)
to SAHZ Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (SAHZ). This grant was to enable SAHZ
to produce ‘home grown’ super-capacitors for solar energy storage,
mobile and electric
vehicle applications
and to commercialise
them under the
ENERSTORA brand
name.

Since first opening its doors in Kuala Lumpur
with just 90 students, UNMC has grown to a
community of more than 4,000, based on a
purpose-built multi-faculty campus, near Kuala
Lumpur. The opening was a historic step - making
Nottingham the first British university to open a
fully operational overseas branch campus.
During the event,
Tun Mahathir was
taken on a guided
tour of the pilot plant
facilities and viewed a showcase of operational super-capacitors used
in mobile phone, solar cabin, electric bicycle and an electric vehicle.
In 2010, the University celebrated a decade
of international educational and research
excellence in Malaysia at a time when the
Malaysian government recognised UNMC as one
of the nation’s elite higher education providers.
Among the attendees of the event were Y.M. Tengku Tan Sri Dato’
Seri Ahmad Rithauddeen Tengku Ismail, Chairman of The University
of Nottingham Malaysia Campus; Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Lodin Wok
Kamaruddin, Director of The University of Nottingham Malaysia
Campus; Prof. Ian Pashby, CEO & Provost of The University of
Nottingham Malaysia Campus; His Excellency Simon Mark Featherstone,
British High Commissioner to Malaysia; senior members of the
diplomatic community, official representatives of MOSTI and senior
management of UNMC.
“I wish to congratulate Tan Sri Lodin as it is just
rightful that he receives due recognition for
believing and supporting in us from the late 90s
when we started talks in Malaysia. He is among
the Board of Directors of UNMC and he actively
supports the development of higher education
for his fellow Malaysians,” said Prof. Ian Pashby,
CEO & Provost of The University of Nottingham
Malaysia Campus.

been sent out to Bousteadians
on training programmes
available for the month.
The last three months have also been a busy period with four training programmes
organised to date. The training programmes completed include a programme

Jokes of the day
didn’t know was that a policeman
was watching the intersection. The
policeman pulled out after him and
stopped the car two blocks away.
Policeman: “License, registration and
proof of insurance please.”
Driver: “Before I give it to you, tell me
what the heck you stopped me for,
man.”
Policeman: “Watch your tone sir; you
ran the stop sign back there!!”
Letters from the inside
An aging man lived alone in Ireland.
His only son was in Long Kesh Prison,
and he didn’t know anyone who
would spade up his potato garden.
The old man wrote to his son about it,
and received this reply, “For HEAVENS
SAKE, don’t dig up that garden, that’s
where I buried the GUNS!”
At 4 a.m. the next morning, a dozen
British soldiers showed up and dug up
the entire garden, but didn’t find any
guns. Confused, the man wrote to his
son telling him what happened and
asking him what to do next.
His son’s reply was: “Just plant your
potatoes.”
Seeing Eye
A blind man with a seeing eye dog at
his side walks into a grocery store. The
man walked to the middle of the store,
pick up the dog by the tail, and starts
swinging the dog around in circles
over his head. The Store Manager,
who had seen all this, thought this
was quite strange. So, he decided to
find out what’s going on.
The Store Manager approached the
blind man swinging the dog and said,
“Pardon me. May I help you with
something?”
The blind man said, “No thanks. I’m
just looking around.”
The Sign
A man was driving down a local
street one day and approached a
stop sign. He barely slowed down and
ran right through the stop sign after
glancing for traffic. What the driver
Driver: “Man, I slowed down, what
the heck is the difference?”
The police officer pulled out his night
stick and began smashing it over the
man’s head and shoulders.
3. His Lawyer
“Well today I found out I don’t have
long to live. So I asked you three here,
because your the most important
people in my life. And I need to ask a
favour. Today I am going to give each
of you and envelope with $50,000
dollars in it. When I die, I would ask
that all three of you throw the money
in my grave.”
Well a few days later the man passed
on, The doctor said, “I have to admit
I kept $10,000 dollars of his money,
he owed me lots of medical bills. But I
threw the other $35,000 in.”
Policeman: “Now, do you want me to
just slow down or stop!!!?"
The Priest said, “I have to admit also
I kept $25,000 dollars for the church.
Its all going to a good cause. And I
threw the rest in.”
An old couple at the
doctors
Well the Lawyer just couldn’t believe
what he was hearing, “I am surprised
at you two. I wrote a check for the
whole amount and threw it in.”
An old couple went to the doctor. The
old man went first to have his physical
examination. When the doctor was
done with him, he sent the old man
back into the waiting room and called
the old woman in.
600-storey hotel
The doctor told her, “Before we
proceed with the examination, I would
like to talk to you about your husband
first.”
Unfortunately for them, the elevator
was not working. They made a plan
for the first 200 storeys, Tom would
crack jokes.
The old woman said, “Oh, no, it’s his
heart. I told him to lay off the eggs.”
The second 200 storeys, Dick would
tell a happy story and lastly, Harry
would tell a sad story. They then
started up the steps.
The doctor said, “Well, I asked your
husband how he is feeling and he told
me he felt great. He said that when
he got up to go to the bathroom, he
opened the door and God turned the
light on for him. When he was done,
he would shut the door and God
would turn the light out for him.”
Tom, Dick and Harry went to a party.
After the party, they returned to the
hotel. The hotel was 600-storey high.
After two hours, it was Harry’s turn.
He turned to the other two and said
“Ok guys, here’s my sad story. I forgot
the keys downstairs."
The old woman responded, “Damn it,
he’s peeing in the fridge again!”
Paying their respects
An elderly man 82, just returned from
the doctors only to find he didn’t have
long to live. So he summoned the
three most important people in his
life to tell.

about 1,000 persons consisting of tenants, Floor Fire Marshals,
Security & Building Maintenance personnel as well as the Emergency
Response Team. The evacuation drill was supervised by Jabatan
Bomba & Penyelamat Kuala Lumpur with the help of Traffic Police
Kuala Lumpur and Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Malaysia. Jabatan

At the assembly point
A 'post-mortem’ session was held
immediately after the exercise chaired by
the Fire Officer, Tn. Roosli Abu Hassan. He stressed
the importance for all occupants in the building to participate in such
exercise with seriousness. Among the things he observed were some
tenants were trying to return to their office when they realised it
was only a drill. Also some Floor Fire Marshals had left their office
floors without ensuring that all occupants on their floors have safely
evacuated.
A post-mortem session
Boustead Property Division wish to thank all involved for making this
fire evacuation drill a success.
