Dwelling in the Word
Blessing to each of you in this New Year. Wow 2016! Are
you making a resolution this year? Do you do that sort of
thing? Are you like me and want to resolve some much
needed things, but lose interest rather quickly? The
‘experts’ always say: we are more likely to follow through if
we gather friends around our resolve. So, okay…. let’s do
this.
Christ Lutheran, you have been challenged to grow deeper
in your relationship with God this New Year! We will do it
together, See the information in more detail found in this
newsletter and in bulletins on Sunday. We will be dwelling
in the Word together this year. Along the glass wall in the
sanctuary you will find the Gospel for each Sunday and you
will be asked to read it throughout the week (yes, it is okay
to read one passage over and over—your pastor does it
every week), prayer about it and then on the Sunday of
that reading after worship we will gather in the sanctuary
to talk about your understanding, what you heard,
questions you have, where you see God in the world…etc.
I will lead most of the discussions, but sometimes others
will need to step in.
Growing as disciples takes ‘discipline’—hence the name.
Like any relationship we need to work at it. God longs for
us to delve deep into scripture and prayer, come to know
how much we are loved and the story of God’s people.
Since ancient times God’s people have gathered to listen to
God’s word and worship together. We were made to
worship and be in community with one another. Whether
you have never read the bible, you only know a little bit or
you have most of it memorized there is room to learn.
God’s word is a living Word and we can read it as a means
to know how God is calling us to mission today. We are
called to dwell in God’s Word and Prayer.

In the New Year Christ Lutheran is making
A Commitment to Honoring GOD by
Dwelling in His Word.
We will make a resolution as a congregation to read
and pray each day for at least 10 minutes.
We will read the Gospel lesson during the week
before it is read in church and pray that God speaks
to us so that we may discern His will for our church.
Every week that you accomplish this goal, we will
add post-it notes to our windows under the verses
read.
These will be a record of our commitment.
We can watch as our faith and learning as a church
grows.
