“
BLASTEC® is the originator of the 1,760 RPM
direct drive shot blast wheel. Since its introduction
in 1976, many others have attempted to equal
our success. Our original design concept, now in
its 7th generation, still remains the leader in the
industry: A large diameter wheel turning at a low
RPM delivering the maximum amount of abrasive
per square inch. While we have improved the
maintenance aspects of the BLASTEC® wheel
through these generational changes, we have
never made a part obsolete. However, all
generations of the BLASTEC® wheel can be
updated to the latest technology.

Use of the BLASTEC® wheel increases productivity
by up to 50%. Blade life is extended by 100% or
more, while impeller and control cage life is
extended by as much as 300% when compared to
most competitive designs. In production tests
and operating cost studies, the BLASTEC® wheel
outperforms conventional 13 inch - 19 1/2 inch
diameter, 2,250 - 3,600 RPM wheels. The BLASTEC®
wheel operates at lower dBA levels compared to
the V-belt wheel assembly, and thus eliminates the
need for sound suppressors.

DESIGN FEATURES
®
The multi-patented 24-inch diameter BLASTEC®
wheel incorporates a double-sided runnerhead
design, and two-sided, reversible blades of long
and narrow design features. Operating speed is a
cool, efficient 1,760 RPM.
To improve performance standards, BLASTEC®
engineers pioneered the concept of low RPM,
direct drive between motor and wheel.
Horsepower robbing, high-maintenance items
such as spindle and pillow block bearings, sheaves,
and V-belts have been eliminated. This design
assures maximum transmission of net motor
energy to the blade tips, optimizing shot volume
and pattern efficiency.

The BLASTEC® wheel is designed to rotate
bi-directional, clockwise and counter-clockwise
(CW or CCW), at its full capacity in motor sizes
ranging from 15-125 HP. The same wheel parts
are employed regardless of rotational direction or
replacement parts for different applications or
rotations. Therefore, in multi-wheel facilities, parts
inventory requirements are greatly reduced.

HORIZONTAL & VERTICAL PLATE DESCALING SYSTEMS
BLASTEC® manufactures both horizontal and vertical plate
descaling machines. We manufacture the world’s fastest
horizontal plate descaling systems, capable of blasting plate
up to fifteen feet in width. Our patented “Ricochet”design
prevents abrasive build-up, allowing one pass cleaning at
unsurpassed speeds. Horizontal plate descalers can also be
configured to process structural shapes for pre-blasting
material prior to fabrication. Plates can be up to 15ft. wide
in various lengths and thickness.

BLASTEC FINISHING SYSTEMS
®
BLASTEC® offers complete plate, structural or combination
plate/structural finishing systems where material can
be loaded onto our conveyor system, dried, pre-heated,
descaled to any finish required, primed and cured in a
continuous linear production line.
Our patented ricochet descaling system allows
us to place our cross draft paint booth, with
upper and lower paint gun reciprocators, in
close proximity to its exit end, applying either
water or solvent based pre-construction primer
evenly to the surface prior to curing.
Our synchronous speed slat conveyor moves primed product
through the curing oven with minimal contact.
Ship and barge yards, steel distributors and processors and

The BLASTEC® wheel is specifically designed to
simplify maintenance procedures. The double
sided runnerhead is constructed of extremely
durable alloy steel. It is machined to exacting
tolerances, heat treated, and balanced to the
toughest quality standards. Blades are easily
removed for replacement or can be flipped
end-for-end and reinstalled all through the top
lid opening without the inconvenience of removing
the impeller, control cage or feed spout assembly.
Side and end liners can also be removed without
disturbing any of the wheel’s moving parts.
As a result of this superior design, overall
maintenance time is significantly reduced.

The BLASTEC® wheel is the perfect candidate when
considering an alternative to replacing your existing
shot blast machine. Each BLASTEC® wheel is
shipped completely assembled. The industrial
electric motor, along with the steel housing and
hinged lid are mounted to a BLASTEC® heavy-duty
base plate. Factory pre-tested, the wheel is ready for
installation and operation with minimal setup.
An installation drawing illustrating the exact wheel
location required for optimum performance is also
provided. BLASTEC® offers installation and start-up
assistance or complete turn-key installation.

BLASTEC® cartridge dust collectors use cartridges that
contain a pleated, non-woven filtering media, as
opposed to woven bags used in bag houses.
The pleated design allows for a greater total filtering
surface area than in a conventional filter of the same
diameter. The greater filtering area results in a reduced
air to media ratio, pressure drop, and overall collector size.

Our well illuminated “stand-alone” manned air blasting systems
or integrated linear “touch up and blow-off booths” are custom
engineered to meet the customer’s needs. Conveyor systems
range from fork truck loading, work car or overhead mono-rail.
Full or partial recovery floors are available. BLASTEC®’s
standard recovery system components are an integral part of
our cross draft blast booths.
Single or multiple outlet blast pots with dual trigger blow-off
capabilities are standard. Our operator safety gear includes blast
suits, blast hoods with cape, and CO² monitoring systems with
alarms along with door interlocks with emergency exit lighting.
