Ride Leader Points:
For each ride you lead, you get a point. Also a point is awarded for helping sweep the Barentson Bridge. Rain outs and
no-shows still count. 10 points gets you an award, traditionally
an article of bike clothing, a vest this year. Please volunteer
and make my job easier.
Club Jerseys:
If you ordered a jersey, I have them. Have a check written to
the club for $60 and come pick them up: 13201 Persons Rd,
Bow (actually top of hill behind Bay View State Park). Or I’ll
try to be at more rides.
A new order will be going in soon, so if you want one let me
know quickly. See you on the road.

October 19, 2015--Ride Report
By Marty Johnson
We Had A Great Ride Yesterday! It had looked a little grim,
looking out the window, thinking of the Monday March Point
ride, seeing fog so thick it was like a light rain and wetting the
ground. There was a 60 chance of rain too. It looked worse
than the previous Monday when I went to March Point to lead
the ride and no one showed up.
But this week, regardless of how it looked out the window,
Shannon and Roy showed up in addition to myself and Anita.
So the four of us headed out over Berentson bridge. Once we
got to the other side of Berentson bridge the roads were absolutely dry and there was some sun peeking through the clouds
down South. So we headed South.
We ended up getting over 37 miles in with a route that went
down to La Conner, down Dodge Valley, Rexville and along the
dike, Kamb up to Mclean and then North on Avon Allen, up to
Peterson, to Higgins, to Josh Wilson to Bayview and then back.
There was a pretty stiff wind coming from the Southeast (unlike
the light and variable wind that was forecast). The wind had a
lot of East in it so we had wonderful tail winds heading North on
Kamb, all the way up Avon Allen, a nice tail wind on Peterson,
on Higgins and Josh Wilson. We had to fight the wind down
Bayview but we had good tail wind again all the way down
highway 20 and south March Point road.
The roads stayed perfectly dry for the whole ride. Not a single
drop of rain fell. The sun came out for some of the ride including blasting North on Kamb and Avon Allen with a sweet tail
wind.
I know we have all been spoiled by all the nice weather we had
this year and we may still be in a little bit of denial that we are
now into our Fall and Winter weather, but a couple months from
now we will all be wishing for days like yesterday.
Congratualtions to SBC
member, Dan Sandstrom
who took gold in the
40k time trial (1hour 3
minutes) at the Huntsmen Senior Games in
St. George, Utah held
October 5-17.
The temperature surprised us and we commented on it a few
times. It felt mild. It felt warm. We stopped a couple times to
peel off extra layers and stuff them in our packs or tie them
around our seat posts.

Word Of The Domestique
The following is the opinion of the Super Domestique and is not intended to offend any religion, ethnic group, club, organization, company, gender,
sexual orientation or individual. The views of the Super Domestique are his own or something he copied from someone else, and do not in any
way reflect the views of the Skagit Bicycle Club. Furthermore, they do not necessarily reflect the views of the people who live in the same home,

Please keep in mind Colby is a pretty busy guy so if you don’t get a reply he is probably to busy to respond to a bunch of whining mountain bikers.
New Brewery open in Mount Vernon !
The FarmStrong Brewery in Mount Vernon has been open for
approximately 6 weeks. It is located in the old Sears building,
by the river, on 110 Stewart Road. This brewery specializes in
beer of all things. It offers only pretzels to eat, but you have
the opportunity to have food delivered by local restaurants
(FarmStrong even has take out menu’s available for you to
look at). With large TV’s, a dart board, a gorgeous bar top
and indoor and outdoor seating, this is a fun place to watch a
Patriots game (or a 49ers game too). The beer that they have
brewed and serve is of course excellent. They even brew their
own Root Beer.
Perhaps the nicest part of this growler filling brewery is its
location. While downtown is often congested, Farmstrong
located in the Mount Vernon dike district, is going to be easily
accessible even on the busiest of days. For those who like to
fill a growler and bring it home, this is the place to go. Check
them out.
This weekend my family and
I went on a fall camping trip
with friends. The highlight of
this camping weekend was
Saturday’s dinner.
While others campers were
cooking hot dogs we were
frying a 19 lb turkey.
Yep, that’s how we roll. It was
turkey time in our campsite!
Our neighbors as far as two
campsites away were tortured
by our culinary awesomeness.
and knew full well that the closest medical facility was one hour
away.
Going into this project and having none of the necessary
equipment I purchased a Browning 30-Quart 20-lb Cylinder
Manual Ignition Gas Fryer at Lowes for $69. The kit comes
with a burner, a pot complete with turkey hanger and
thermometer. Add a turkey and 3 gallons of peanut oil and you
are good to go. I would also highly recommend some quality
gloves for handling the hot turkey.
For anyone who hasn’t tried this I must say that this was one of
the best tasting turkeys that I have ever eaten. 19 lbs of turkey
fry’s in one hour and 6 minutes and wow was it good! Not oily
or greasy like you may expect. The meat is nice and moist the
350 degree oil sears the skin of the turkey sealing in the juice
and keeping the bird tender and moist.
At a one hour cook time it’s possible to cook a bird for every
family represented at your table. Leftovers for weeks! Happy
Holidays!
Yours Truly, Super Domestique
225 lbs
So this was my first time frying
a turkey and I must admit I
was a little nervous. 3 gallons of oil at 350 degrees seems to
demand respect.
Not to mention everyone who had ever considering frying a
turkey seemed to feel it necessary to remind me exactly how
dangerous hot oil can be. So needless to say, I was cautious
