Luke and Paul, our parish patron saints, are names we
hear frequently in the Eucharistic Prayer at Mass. Luke is our
namesake, and one of the four evangelists - Gospel writers. I
like to say that our mission as St. Luke University Parish is to
proclaim the Gospel anew for our age, area and community.
Paul is patron of the Paulist Fathers, also a Gospel writer in
the sense of proclaiming the Gospel anew to the people in new
lands and groups.
As we begin to pray anew for our parish, its building progress
and our Rooted + Growing in Christ campaign we have based our
slogan on a passage from Paul’s letter to the Colossians. In the
letter, Paul’s focus is on Christ who is first among all creatures,
the one through whom all is created and held together.
Colossians chapter 2 has these words for us:
I want you to know how hard I am struggling for you... I am
with you in spirit, happy to see good order among you and the
firmness of your faith in Christ. Continue to live in Christ Jesus
the Lord, in the spirit in which you received him. Be rooted in
him and built up in him, growing ever stronger in faith, as you
were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.
As we look at our community prayer life, let us keep coming
back to the words of scripture, and the lessons taught by our
tradition and the faith ancestors that have gone before us. Let
us also think about the legacy we are preparing for those who
come after us - as we see this opportunity of growing parish,
building buildings, being more securely rooted in Christ as a
way to express the Gospel that will bring all people closer to
Christ.
Prayer & St. Luke University Parish
Brothers and Sisters in Christ; we have been together now
almost 9 years - a small drop of time in the Church bucket
of eternity.
And in that time we have experienced growth pains and
changes that are typical of parish life, but perhaps more
pronounced because we are new - as a parish and to each
other. And we forget that all the “stuff ” we like or dislike
about being a parish and campus ministry are part of the
journey of parish life. Building a building, growing minstries,
socializing, types of music, Mass celebrations - these
are all part of our identity and important, but underlying
everything is prayer.
Prayer is timeless. Prayer is the key to everything. Prayer is
what can make the impossible possible, what can make the
unliveable team with life again, and what can bring together
the harshest divide or gently separate the most difficult
entanglements.
Make prayer a priority in your life, if it is not already part of
your life. Make sure you share prayer too, if you want yours to
sing. I mean that as in, “pray for others,” and also “tell others
about what your prayer is and means to you.”
Our Rooted + Growing in Christ campaign is really about our
being Church rather than building a church. Let us use this
campaign to know one another, and transform ourselves
through our prayer.

Some Thoughts on Prayer
& our Mission Ahead
Fr. Brad Schoeberle, CSP
Pastor
Glorious God,
we thank and praise you
for the many ways you have blest us
since we began as St. Luke University Parish.
We believe we are called to invite
others to a deeper relationship with you.
Bless us with generous sacrificial hearts
as we face the responsibilities and challenges
of growing our parish.
“We are called to faith in Christ Jesus,
to be rooted in him, growing ever stronger
in faith as we were taught and
overflowing with gratitude.” [Colossians 2:6]
There is much to do.
Please guide us, strengthen us and
inspire us with your presence.
May the intercessions of Mother Mary, and
our patron saints, Luke and Paul,
help us in our cause.
We pray this through Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with You
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God forever and ever.
Amen.

Rooted + Growing in Christ: Capital Stewardship Campaign
During all our Masses today, we showed an informational
presentation about our capital stewardship campaign.
We want to make sure you are completely informed about
this campaign and our exciting building plans. Campaign
leadership is available after all the Masses to answer your
questions. Be sure to pick up a Q&A sheet, too.
Advance commitment gathering
Our advance commitment gathering for the Rooted +
Growing in Christ campaign will take place on Monday,
June 13 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at the Campus View Apartments
lounge, 10255 42nd Ave. Come for an ice cream social with
other light snacks, discussion and fellowship. Childcare will
be available.
The advance commitment gathering is an opportunity for parishioners to consider making their campaign
commitment before Commitment Sunday. Early commitments help establish a benchmark of sacrificial giving, and
help inspire and lead our parish by example. If you’d like to be part of this advance commitment event, contact the
parish office at 895-2248 or [email protected] by June 6 to RSVP.
