July 3, 2016 - Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Greetings and prayers dear brothers and sisters in Christ. Welcome to our celebration of the
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. In this space this week is the conclusion of Bishop
Lynch’s Thoughts & Reflections on the Episcopal Transition, or in more common words, the
process of selecting a new bishop.
“ow let me close this with some FAQ’s (‘frequently asked questions’)
Will I, Bishop Lynch, know who is being proposed or likely to succeed? o.
Would I like to know? o.
Will anyone in St. Petersburg know who is in the running? o.
Will there be public updates once the process begins? o.
Will anyone in the media or on the blog-o-sphere know for sure who it is going to be? o
Will it “leak” in Rome after the Congregation and before the Pope decides? o
Will it “leak” in Rome or Washington prior to the formal announcement? o
Will it “leak” in the diocese prior public announcement? I hope not.
Will there be rumors? Highly likely. Should they be taken as “Gospel”? o
I hope to serve through to my birthday in May [already past this juncture at this time] and as long
thereafter as it takes to find a successor, but I pray that the diocese can receive new life and new
energy as soon as possible. I am already praying for my successor and will ask you to do the same ….”
As of this writing, following is the most recent update from the Diocesan Communications
Department: “… Our diocese is now in a waiting period to hear from the Vatican who our new bishop
will be. Bishop Lynch will still be in office until we receive the official announcement from the Vatican.”
As Bishop Lynch informed us at the onset, there is the possibility this could be a long, lengthy
process. The Diocesan offices will keep us apprised as progress takes its course.
This weekend our nation celebrates Independence Day. The United States Conference of
Catholic Bishops published a Statement on Religious Liberty titled Our First Most Cherished
Liberty. I join them in encouraging Catholics across the country to place a “strong focus on
prayer, education and reflection on our first freedom, freedom of religion”. Following are
excerpts from their Statement. The entire text can be found on their website.
“We are Catholics. We are Americans. We are proud to be both, grateful for the gift of faith
which is ours as Christian disciples, and grateful for the gift of liberty which is ours as American
citizens. To be Catholic and American should mean not having to choose one over the other.
2 To all our fellow Catholics, we urge an intensification of your prayers and fasting for a new
birth of freedom in our beloved country. We invite you to join us in an urgent prayer for religious
liberty:
Almighty God, Father of all nations, For freedom you have set us free in Christ Jesus (Gal
5:1). We praise and bless you for the gift of religious liberty, the foundation of human rights,
justice, and the common good. Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our
liberties; By your grace may we have the courage to defend them, for ourselves and for all
those who live in this blessed land. We ask this through the intercession of Mary
Immaculate, our patroness, and in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity
of the Holy Spirit, with whom you live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. 2”

Fulfilling Your Family’s Potential
Family plays a large role in God’s plan for us. The Bible
offers a snapshot of what a family can and should be.
First, God intends the family to introduce children to his
truths. In Deuteronomy 6:6-9 he gives us the Great
Commandment: “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the
Lord alone! Therefore, you shall love the Lord, your God,
with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your
strength.” He tells us we should “Take to heart these
words, drill them into our children, speak of them at home
and abroad, whether we are busy or at rest.”
Second, God intends for the family to provide long-term
guidance. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train a boy in the way he
should go; even when he is old, he will not swerve from it.”
Third, God intends the family to supply a lifetime’s worth
of support and encouragement. The household the apostle
Paul describes in Ephesians 5:21-32—where family
members meet one another’s needs with a loving spirit—is
the ideal training ground for Christian service.
In Ephesians 6:1-4, Paul has this direction for the family:
“Children obey your parents (in the Lord), for this is right.
Honor your father and mother.
This is the first
commandment with a promise, that it may go well with you
and you may have a long life on earth. Fathers, do not
provoke your children to anger, but bring them up with the
training and instruction of the Lord.” whether through
everyday means or supernatural ones.

Almighty and all loving God, Eternal Shepherd and Guide, we
are grateful for Bishop Lynch and his twenty years of ministry in
our diocese. During this time of transition, we trust in Your love,
confident that You will once again give to the Diocese of St.
Petersburg a shepherd who will inspire us to be Christ’s heart of
mercy, His voice of hope and hands of justice. Guide our new
bishop to enlighten our hearts and minds with the truth of the
Gospel, the power of the sacraments, and the desire to serve you
in all things. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Janitorial Position – Part-Time: St. Ignatius of Antioch in Tarpon Springs is seeking an experienced part time
Janitorial worker for morning duty four days a week ( which will include Sunday ) with the ability to work flexible
shifts as needed. Qualified applicants must have general knowledge and experience in facility cleaning and
standards; be able to operate cleaning equipment and have the physical capability of lifting up to 50 lbs. Must have
a friendly attitude, able to identify, repair and supply needs and communicate/coordinate completion of projects/
requests with other departmental staff. Must have good communication skills and be a self-starter. Position
requires an active driver’s license, ability to read and write English, successful completion of level 2 background
screening and attend a Safe Environment training. Please submit a cover letter, resume and a list of three
