Bachman’s was founded in 1885 and remains family-owned, with fourth- and fifth-generation Bachman
family members leading the company today. Based in Minneapolis, Bachman’s operates retail locations in the
Twin Cities, including six full-service Floral, Home, and Garden Centers, a floral and card store in U.S. Bank
Plaza (downtown Minneapolis), two Hardscape Centers (Minneapolis and Farmington) and 27 floral departments
within Lunds and Byerly’s grocery stores. The company also operates indoor and outdoor landscaping divisions,
a wedding/special events department, a nursery wholesale division, seven acres of greenhouses, and a
670-acre growing range in Lakeville, Minn., which produces many of the plants, flowers,
and landscaping products sold by Bachman’s today.
Bachman’s Production Greenhouses has been expanded through the years, to its current size of seven acres
of greenhouse production space. In 1990 we constructed 3,200 square feet of cooler space for use in our
bulb and azalea production. In preparation for the continued expansion of our garden center businesses, we
added an additional 110,000 square feet of greenhouse production space in 1995. The new greenhouse
space has many exciting features, including Integrated Priva computers to provide a consistent thriving
environment for plant production, a mobile bench system, and ebb-and-flood watering system, and
“Echo flowering hanging basket” system, and much more. Some of the crops we produce annually are:
over 95,000 poinsettias, 15,000 Easter lilies, 100,000 mums and 70,000 azaleas.
Our production greenhouses has several employment opportunities to offer. We employ a shipping crew,
an order processing crew, boiler operators and assistant growers. Many positions begin in late March and
continue through the early summer months. Our production greenhouse team members do best when they
possess the ability to pay close attention to detail, have excellent hand/eye coordination, enjoy working in
a fast paced environment, and pass our pre-employment physical. The greenhouses are warm and humid
on those cold late winter days, and the sight and smell of the new crops showing color and growth
brings a smile to many.
