The L’Arche Daybreak Community
Founded in 1969 by Ann and Steve Newroth, L’Arche
Daybreak is the first and largest L’Arche community
in North America. Canadian Jean Vanier founded the
original L’Arche community in France in 1964.
Today there are nine L’Arche communities in
Ontario, twenty-nine in Canada, and about 130 in
over 30 countries around the world. L’Arche Daybreak
now includes eight homes in Richmond Hill, as well
as The Woodery wood-working shop, The Craft
Studio, Daybreak Books & Media bookstore, and
the Dayspring spiritual centre. The L’Arche Daybreak
community is a dynamic example of how people of
different intellectual capacity, social origin, religion
and culture can live together.
