The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest is a Society of Apostolic Life in Canonical
Form and of Pontifical Right. Founded in Gabon, Africa in 1990, the Institute has its Motherhouse
and International Seminary in Florence, Italy and works currently in over fifty dioceses worldwide.
In the United States it comprises thirteen apostolates and has its U.S. Headquarters in Chicago.
Having been invited to Tucson in 2008 by His Excellency The Most Reverend Gerald F. Kicanas,
Bishop of Tucson, the Institute celebrates the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Liturgy at
St. Gianna Oratory according to the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI.
Effective August 6, 2010 Bishop Kicanas has entrusted the Parish Administration of Holy Family
Parish to the Institute which conducts the Religious Education Program and provides parish
management, while priests from within the Diocese are charged with the celebration of the Ordinary
Form of the Roman Liturgy at Holy Family Parish.

Dear Faithful and Friends of the Institute of Christ the King,
I would like to wish you all a very blessed Feast of Pentecost. After Easter and Christmas, Pentecost is the most
important feast of the liturgical year. We celebrate the descent of the Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity on the
Blessed Virgin Mary and on the eleven apostles gathered around her in the Cenacle in Jerusalem.
On this great day the Holy Spirit made the Catholic Church known to the world! Having been sent by the
Father and by the Son, the Holy Ghost came down with great power and under mighty signs. He descended upon
the apostles in the form of fiery tongues and strengthened them inwardly with divine grace and gifts. He bestowed
on them inner strength and fortitude and confirmed them in their mission to announce the Kingdom of God.
Saint Peter and the other apostles, who had been full of fear and anxiety after Christ‟s imprisonment, Passion, and
death, and who remained fearful even after Christ‟s glorious Resurrection and Ascension, were transformed by the
Holy Ghost into courageous witnesses of Christ who did not fear their enemies anymore. Saint Peter, the first
pope, speaks in the name of the young Church, and as the visible representative of Christ on earth to the
Jews, he announces to them Jesus Christ, Crucified and Risen.
As Pentecost was already an important feast in the Old Testament, many Jews had gathered from all over
the Roman Empire and even from beyond its borders to worship God in Jerusalem. They came for Pentecost
to Jerusalem to thank God for the handing over of the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mt. Sinai. They thanked
God for the rich spring harvest and honored God as the Perfect One who calls us to holiness and perfection. The
Jews were amazed by the miracle of languages because they all could understand St. Peter in their mother tongue,
as St. Luke tells us in Chapter Two of the Acts of the Apostles.
The first Pentecost was a large spiritual harvest for the Church as about 3,000 souls were baptized. The
Holy Ghost wrote the law of charity into their hearts and confirmed them in the chief commandment to love God
above all things and to love thy neighbor as thyself. At Confirmation, the Holy Ghost Who is the Sprit of Jesus
Christ, perfects our baptismal graces and leads us to the Christian adulthood. With the reception of this sacrament
we become soldiers of Jesus Christ, who confess their Faith, despite the difficulties, challenges, and contradictions
that we all experience in our life, with courage! We profess our Faith, both privately and in our families, as well as
publicly, as members of a civil society and nation.
Today thirteen candidates from Holy Family Parish will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from
Bishop Gerald Kicanas at St. Augustine Cathedral, and it is my honor and joy to accompany them and to be
present at this so important moment in their lives. On this Feast of Pentecost the Holy Spirit will come upon
them and they will be marked by Him with a spiritual mark, the so-called indelible character, which transforms
them into Christ‟s soldiers and shows, to the celestial armies of Heaven and to the Communion of Saints at the
throne of God, that these young men and women have reached the adulthood of the Christian life and are called to
be lay witnesses of Christ‟s Kingdom in the civil world. As members of the Catholic Church they are members of
Christ‟s Mystical Body and heirs of Heaven. They are members of the Church Militant on earth and they strive to
join the Church Triumphant in Heaven. Our life is a preparation for Heaven. Our life on earth should prefigure our
future life in Heaven.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is very powerful and is be of great supernatural help, strength, and inner
renewal on our pilgrimage to the land of Heaven. Once confirmed, we remain confirmed for eternity, and the
spiritual mark of our confirmation on our soul is a source of courage and strength on earth and will be a sign of
glory in Heaven. The Sacrament of Confirmation gives us not only the inner strength to defend our Faith and to
live up to our vocation of holiness, but it also gives us the strength to protect those under our care from the dangers
of unbelief and religious indifference, and to help and guide them on their way to holiness. The Sacrament of
Confirmation calls us to a deeper life of prayer, to continued studies of our Faith, and to build up a Catholic
society that honors the rights of Christ the King on all levels.
This sacrament shows us that we are not just individuals striving for our individual holiness and
relationship with God, but that we are human persons with an individual and social nature and
who are members of Christ’s family, the Catholic Church, and who take responsibility for each
other in our journey together towards the Promised Land of Paradise.
Those who are baptized and confirmed should ask the Holy Spirit to purify them and to renew in
them daily the graces of these two sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation which are the spiritual
rock of grace onto which the entire edifice of our spiritual life is built.
Father David Reinders and I wish all of you a very blessed Feast of Pentecost and the abundant graces
and gifts of the Holy Spirit. May the Holy Ghost strengthen, console, and illuminate you. May He purify
and cleanse you so that your life may become evermore a glorification of the love, and truth, and beauty
of the One God in Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

NEXT WEEKEND SECOND COLLECTION FOR OUR AC SYSTEM!
The Joys and Sorrows of Our AC System:
As you may have noticed, the temperature in the church has been elevated above the usual 77
degrees on Sundays despite the air conditioning system which was repaired last summer. I
actually measured 84 degrees after one of the Masses. I had a technician from Baker Air
Conditioning come to the church and check our system. He told me that our air conditioning
units were modernized and fixed last year to a large extent, but that there was still one unit
which needed major repair work. So far, we have only 75 percent of the AC working
properly, and when the outside temperature reaches 100 degrees, our AC system is unable to
cool the church sufficiently. The repair estimate from last year, which was submitted to me,
amounts to $5,250.00. Knowing that the temperature will continue to rise over the summer months,
and knowing how difficult it is, especially for our elderly faithful, children, and pregnant mothers to
deal with high temperature levels, I have signed a contract to repair our AC system and to bring it
up to 100 percent working capacity with Baker Air Conditioning. This is the company which originally installed our AC system, has done all the maintenance on the system, and modernized it to a
large extent in 2010.
I expect that this work will be accomplished by the end of June before the muggy monsoon
season arrives. However, I also need to foresee being able to sign the check to pay for this important improvement and repair of our AC system. Holy Family Church has received rebates
from the Diocesan-wide campaign “Our Faith, Our Hope, Our Future.” We currently have about
$3,000 in restricted funds with the Diocese of Tucson which comes from these rebates. This money
will be used to pay for part of the necessary AC repair. The remainder needs to be raised by us and I
invite you to please participate generously in a second collection for this purpose. Our AC system
collection will be on the weekend of June 18 and 19. I thank you for your participation and I
am sure that we will all benefit from and enjoy the better air conditioning which we expect to have
by the end of the month.

Holy Family Catholic Church
is one of Tucson’s historic landmarks. Built in the Mission style in
1913 in the Hispanic Dunbar Springs neighborhood and close to the University of Arizona, it was consecrated
on Jan. 14, 1915 by Msgr. Henry R. Granjon, third Bishop of Tucson (1900-1922).
Holy Family Parish is Tucson‟s oldest Catholic parish. Its first pastor Fr. Lucas of St. Joseph O.C.D. and his
associate Fr. Eduardo of the Child Jesus O.C.D. were beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on October 28 in 2007,
the Feast of Christ the King.
Today Holy Family Catholic Church is the home of both Holy Family Parish and St. Gianna Oratory with

Lesson from the Acts of the Apostles.
When the days of Pentecost were accomplished, they were all together in one place; and suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming, and it filled the whole
house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them parted tongues as it were of fire, and
it sat upon every one of them; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to
speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak. Now there were
dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. And when this was
noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded in mind, because that every
man heard them speak in his own tongue. And they were all amazed, and wondered, saying: Behold, are not all these that speak Galileans? And how have we heard every one our own tongue

Act of Thanksgiving and Consecration to the Holy Ghost
Holy Ghost, divine Consoler, I adore Thee as my true God. I bless Thee and unite with all the
Angels and Saints in praising Thee. I offer Thee my whole heart, and I render Thee sincere
thanks for all the benefits Thou hast bestowed and continuest to bestow upon the whole world.
I wish to praise Thee and thank Thee especially, in behalf of all those Christians who, either
through neglect, ignorance or thoughtlessness, never render Thee any special homage.
Thou Who art the Author of all supernatural gifts and Who didst enrich with immense favors,
the soul of the Blessed Virgin May, the Mother of God, I beseech Thee, to visit me by Thy grace

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended with power upon the Apostles; thus began the mission of the
Church in the world. Jesus himself prepared the Eleven for this mission, appearing to them on many occasions after
his Resurrection (cf. Acts 1: 3).
Prior to the Ascension into Heaven, he ordered them "not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of
the Father" (cf. Acts 1: 4-5); that is, he asked them to stay together to prepare themselves to receive the gift of the
Holy Spirit. And they gathered in prayer with Mary in the Upper Room, awaiting the promised event (cf. Acts
1: 14).
To stay together was the condition laid down by Jesus in order to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit; the premise of
their harmony was prolonged prayer. In this way we are offered a formidable lesson for every Christian community.
Some think at times that missionary effectiveness depends primarily on careful programming and its subsequent intelligent application through a concrete commitment.
The Lord certainly does ask for our collaboration, but before any other response his initiative is necessary: his Spirit
is the true protagonist of the Church.
The roots of our being and of our action are in the wise and provident silence of God.
The images used by St Luke to indicate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit - wind and fire - recall Sinai, where God
revealed himself to the people of Israel and offered his covenant (cf. Ex 19: 3ff.). The feast of Sinai, which Israel
celebrated 50 days after the Passover, was the feast of the Covenant.
Speaking of the tongues of fire (cf. Acts 2: 3), St Luke wants to show Pentecost as a new Sinai, as the feast of the
New Covenant, where the Covenant with Israel is extended to all the nations of the earth.
The Church has been catholic and missionary from her birth. The universality of salvation is meaningfully manifested with the list of the numerous ethnic groups to which those who heard the Apostles' first proclamation belonged (cf. Acts 2: 9-11).
The People of God, which had found its first configuration in Sinai, extends today to the point of surmounting every
barrier of race, culture, space and time. As opposed to what occurred with the tower of Babel (cf. Gn 11: 1-9), when
people wanted to build a way to heaven with their hands and ended up by destroying their very capacity of mutual
understanding, in Pentecost the Spirit, with the gift of tongues, demonstrates that his presence unites and transforms
confusion into communion.
Human pride and egoism always create divisions, build walls of indifference, hate and violence. The Holy Spirit, on
the other hand, makes hearts capable of understanding the languages of all, as he re-establishes the bridge of authentic communion between earth and heaven. The Holy Spirit is Love.
But how is it possible to enter into the mystery of the Holy Spirit? How can the secret of Love be understood?
The Gospel passage takes us today to the Upper Room where, after the Last Supper, a sense of loss has saddened the
Apostles. This is due to the fact that Jesus' words arouse disturbing questions: He spoke of the world's hatred of him
and of his own, he spoke of his mysterious departure; and there were still many other things to be said, but for the
time being the Apostles were not able to bear the weight (cf. Jn 16: 12).
To console them, he explains the meaning of his departure: he will go, but he will return; meanwhile, he will not
abandon them, will not leave them orphans. He will send the Consoler, the Spirit of the Father, and the Spirit will
enable them to understand that Christ's work is a work of love: love of the One who gave himself, love of the Father
who has given him.
This is the mystery of Pentecost: the Holy Spirit illuminates the human spirit and, by revealing Christ Crucified and
Risen, indicates the way to become more like him, that is, to be "the image and instrument of the love which flows

We would ask you to please line up for Confession along the east side wall of the Church, the side
where the large wooden crucifix is situated. Please do not stand next to the Confessional doors in
order to give more privacy to those in the confessional.
Please rehearse with your children, if necessary, the Act of Contrition. Please do this in your next
catechism class which you are giving them.
You are asked to please kneel in the Confessional! The chair should be used only by those who
have difficulty kneeling! Kneeling is an act of humility before God Almighty Whom we have
offended by our sins.
Volunteers needed for the San Martin de Porres Meal Program at our church
We still need additional volunteers to help with the San Martin de Porres Meal Program. We are looking
for faithful who can commit to a specific day and supervise the volunteers who come to help. They will
also receive a key for the church basement hall to open and close it for the meal program.
You are invited to contact the Parish office to sign up for any day: Sunday or Friday at 4:00 pm: sack lunch
distribution; Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.: hot meal served in the church basement hall.

La Parroquia de la Sagrada Familia es una de los lugares de interés histórico de Tucson.
En el ano 1913, la iglesia fue construida en el estilo de las misiones en el barrio hispano Dunbar Springs cerca
a la universidad de Arizona. Fue consagrada el 14 de enero 1915 por Monseñor Henry R. Granjon, tercer
obispo de Tucson (1900-1922).
Parroquia de la Sagrada Familia es la más antigua parroquia de Tucson. Su primer párroco, el Padre Lucas de
San José O.C.D., y su socio Fr. Eduardo del Niño Jesús O.C.D., fueron beatificados por el Papa Benedicto
XVI el 28 de octubre, 2007 - la Fiesta de Cristo Rey.
Hoy la iglesia católica de Sagrada Familia es el hogar de ambos Parroquia de la Sagrada Familia y Santa
Gianna Oratorio que ofrece la liturgia latina tradicional.Ambas comunidades están bajo el cuidado del
Instituto de Cristo Rey Soberano Sacerdote. Bl. Lucas y Bl. Eduardo, ruega por nosotros!

Homilía de Benedicto XVI en la misa de Pentecostés
CIUDAD DEL VATICANO, domingo, 4 junio 2006
¡Queridos hermanos y hermanas!
En el día de Pentecostés, el Espíritu Santo descendió con potencia sobre los
apóstoles; de este modo comenzó la misión de la Iglesia en el mundo. Jesús
mismo había preparado a los once para esta misión al aparecérseles en varias
ocasiones después de la resurrección (Cf. Hechos 1, 3). Antes de la ascensión
al Cielo, «les mandó que no se ausentasen de Jerusalén, sino que aguardasen la Promesa del Padre» (Cf. Hechos 1, 4-5);
es decir, les pidió que se quedaran juntos para prepararse a recibir el don del Espíritu Santo. Y ellos se reunieron en oración con María en el Cenáculo, en espera de este acontecimiento prometido (Cf. Hechos 1, 14).
Permanecer juntos fue la condición que puso Jesús para acoger el don del Espíritu Santo; el presupuesto de su concordia
fue la oración prolongada. De este modo se nos ofrece una formidable lección para cada comunidad cristiana. A veces se
piensa que la eficacia misionera depende principalmente de una programación atenta y de su sucesiva aplicación inteligente a través de un compromiso concreto. Ciertamente el Señor pide nuestra colaboración, pero antes de cualquier otra
repuesta se necesita su iniciativa: su Espíritu es el verdadero protagonista de la Iglesia. Las raíces de nuestro ser y de
nuestro actuar están en el silencio sabio y providente de Dios.
Las imágenes que utiliza san Lucas para indicar la irrupción del Espíritu Santo --el viento y el fuego-- recuerdan al Sinaí,
donde Dios se había revelado al pueblo de Israel y había concedido su alianza (Cf. Éxodo 19,3 y siguientes). La fiesta del
Sinaí, que Israel celebraba cincuenta días después de la Pascua, era la fiesta del Pacto. Al hablar las lenguas de fuego (Cf.
Hechos 2, 3), san Lucas quiere representar Pentecostés como un nuevo Sinaí, como la fiesta del nuevo Pacto, en el que la
Alianza con Israel se extiende a todos los pueblos de la Tierra. La Iglesia es católica y misionera desde su nacimiento. La
universalidad de la salvación se manifiesta con la lista de las numerosas etnias a las que pertenecen quienes escuchan el
primer anuncio de los apóstoles (Cf. Hechos 2, 9-11).
El Pueblo de Dios, que había encontrado en el Sinaí su primera configuración, se amplia hoy hasta superar toda frontera
de raza, cultura, espacio y tiempo. A diferencia de lo que sucedió con la torre de Babel, cuando los hombres que querían
construir con sus manos un camino hacia el cielo habían acabado destruyendo su misma capacidad de comprenderse recíprocamente, en el Pentecostés del Espíritu, con el don de las lenguas, muestra que su presencia une y transforma la confusión en comunión. El orgullo y el egoísmo del hombre siempre crean divisiones, levantan muros de indiferencia, de odio
y de violencia. El Espíritu Santo, por el contrario, hace que los corazones sean capaces de comprender las lenguas de todos, pues restablece el puente de la auténtica comunicación entre la Tierra y el Cielo. El Espíritu Santo es el Amor.
Pero, ¿cómo es posible entrar en el misterio del Espíritu Santo? ¿Cómo se puede comprender el secreto del Amor? El pasaje evangélico nos lleva hoy al Cenáculo, donde, terminada la última Cena, una experiencia de desconcierto entristece a
los apóstoles. El motivo es que las palabras de Jesús suscitan interrogantes inquietantes: habla del odio del mundo hacia
Él y hacia los suyos, habla de una misteriosa partida suya y queda todavía mucho por decir, pero por el momento los
apóstoles no son capaces de cargar con el peso (Cf. Juan 16, 12). Para consolarles les explica el significado de su partida:
se irá, pero volverá, mientras tanto no les abandonará, no les dejará huérfanos. Enviará el Consolador, el Espíritu del Padre, y será el Espíritu quien les permita conocer que la obra de Cristo es obra de amor: amor de Él que se ha entregado,
amor del Padre que le ha dado.
Este es el misterio de Pentecostés: el Espíritu Santo ilumina el espíritu humano y, al revelar a Cristo crucificado y resucitado, indica el camino para hacerse más semejantes a Él, es decir, ser «expresión e instrumento del amor que proviene de
Él» («Deus caritas est», 33). Reunida junto a María, como en su nacimiento, la Iglesia hoy implora: «Veni Sancte Spiritus!» - «¡Ven, Espíritu Santo, llena los corazones de tus fieles y enciende en ellos fel fuego de tu amor!». Amén.
