Greeting from SPS
ASEAN Economic Community will be established in 2015 and it is time for ASEAN
region to converge in a new economic era, involving no less than 600 million people.
The ASEAN market has become one of the important destinations for regional
and global investors. One of the driving forces in ASEAN economy is State-Owned
Enterprises (SOEs). In some ASEAN Member Countries, these State-Owned
Enterprises play important roles in developing their country’s economy.
A number of these State-Owned Enterprises implemented excellent corporate
actions, not only in ASEAN and Asia, but also in Europe and America. In the ASEAN
Economic Community era, their roles and actions would escalate substantially.
The reinforced roles and corporate actions will be expected to drive the economic
growth of ASEAN countries higher, which in time will increase the prosperity of the
people in the region.
SOEs in ASEAN region will increase their efforts to adjust to the new regional
economic era’s market potentials, and will expand their corporate actions in
ASEAN and global markets. These State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) also need to
improve their corporate competitiveness amongst SOEs, private, and multinational
companies in ASEAN and beyond ASEAN.
Furthermore, the Public Relations industry in ASEAN is projected to improve
exponentially, along with the growth and dynamics of the corporations embarking
on the new regional economic era. Every practitioner in the industry is deliberating
and examining the changes that the future economic era brings to the industry,
including the challenges as well as actions needed to improve the capacity of Public
Relations practitioners in the region.
In order to discover the outlook and analyses of the above-mentioned issues,
Serikat Perusahaan Pers (SPS) Pusat or Indonesia News Publishers’ Association
with more than 471 press company members in Indonesia, has the initiative to host
three regional forums. These regional forums are The 1st ASEAN Summit for StateOwned Enterprises and Media (ASSOEM): The Future of ASEAN in Global Economic
Community, The 1st ASEAN Public Relations Summit: The Future of Public
Relations Profession in ASEAN Economic Community (APRS), and The 1st ASEAN
Corporate Investment Expo (ACIE).
And now, in Batam, Riau Islands, Indonesia, we are very happy to welcome all of
You to join at these event, from 5 to 7 February 2015. Enjoy Batam, and found our

Greeting from APRN
Facing the challenge ahead of the ASEAN Community 2015, competition for
professionals who work in the field of PR is increasing along with the openness
of this profession for anyone who meets the required qualifications or demands.
PR practitioners in Indonesia and as well in ASEAN region will face very fierce
competition from the influx of PR practitioners from various countries in the
ASEAN and beyond ASEAN. There is no choice for us but to prepare. Preparation is
certainly most important, especially when related to increase self – competence.
PR practitioner must have clear benchmarks associated with ethics, skills and
knowledge in Public Relations beside of networking.
LSPR has taken the initiative to give birth to ASEAN Public Relations Network
(APRN), with the purpose in championing connectivity, collaboration, friendship and
mutual understanding among Public Relations Community in ASEAN.
The inauguration of APRN was on June 02, 2014 at ASEAN secretariat Jakarta.
The inauguration also celebrates The First ASEAN Public Relations Conference,
held June 03, 2014 at The London School of Public Relations Jakarta, Campus and
the speakers are from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and
Thailand.
APRN is now included in ASEAN Community Master Plan and with the support of
ASEAN Secretariat, APRN already prepares one year activities such as monthly
dialogue with different topics about various ASEAN industries, ASEAN excellence
PR awards and also as our yearly event, APRN in collaboration with SPS (Serikat
Perusahaan Pers) hold ASEAN Public Relations Summit (APRS).
Through APRN and this event, we will be able to use our experience to help each
other in ASEAN community in solving crisis or problems and share our experience
both in local corporate level or even nation level. We can also learn from each
other strength to improve our own PR skill and experience. This is the beauty
of completing each other in APRN. As the Voice of ASEAN Public Relations, we
believe that the friendship in ASEAN Public Relations Network, the collaboration,
the partnership, the attachment, the transformation, and the bonding between us,
will lead ASEAN Public Relations even stronger and ready to face the challenge of
beyond ASEAN. Together we can achieve more.
Congratulations also to Serikat Perusahaan Pers for the initiative to organize The
1st ASEAN Public Relations Summit (APRS) with ASEAN Public Relations Network,
The 1st ASEAN Summit for State-Owned Enterprises and Media (ASSOEM), and The

Inspirational Message from
Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN
ASEAN is “A Community of Opportunities!”
As an integrated, well-connected region with one vision, one mission, and one
identity, ASEAN brings much greater opportunities for our citizens: enabling
greater business prospects and product selections across ASEAN; quick,
coordinated one ASEAN response in times of natural disasters; and protecting
rights of women and children, among others.
Our challenge is to spread the concrete benefits of the ASEAN Community
effectively, and as widely as possible. This is indeed a formidable task considering
we have more than 625 million citizens to look after.
The recently launched “ASEAN Communication Master Plan” thus recognizes
the indispensable role of professional groups, civil society, and third party
spokespersons in amplifying the message of ASEAN as “A Community of
Opportunities.”
As such, I congratulate and thank the Serikat Perusahaan Pers and ASEAN
Public Relations Network (APRN) for the timely initiative to bring togetherour
region’s PR gurus for the 1st ASEAN Public Relations Summit. I am confident
that the ASEAN PR Summit and the continued active role and contributions by the
APRN will tremendously boost ASEAN efforts in conveying and disseminating the
opportunities and benefits of the ASEAN Community to the peoples.
Congratulations also to Serikat Perusahaan Pers for the initiative to organize The
1st ASEAN Summit for State-Owned Enterprises and Media (ASSOEM), The 1st
ASEAN Public Relations Summit (APRS) with ASEAN Public Relations Network and
The 1st ASEAN Corporate Investment Expo (ACIE).
I wish you success in your meeting and in all your endeavors!

Inspirational Message from
Director General for ASEAN Cooperation
ASEAN is obviously a very important Association. For the past 47 years, ASEAN
has made great strides in regional cooperation, and since ASEAN proclaimed
to establish an ASEAN Community in 2015, the world’s attention has suddenly
centered in our region, and it centered to us.
In this time of great change, the most valuable tool, one can accommodate and
bring ASEAN people closer to each other is through communication and knowledge.
By communicating, introducing, talking, discussing and sharing between ASEAN
people, the future challenges will slowly turn into possibilities, and people as the
true partaker of ASEAN, they will bring great impacts, they will bring opportunities.
This is an exact moment for ASEAN Public Relations to come with an idea,
discussions or thoughts to bring our people closer than ever united yet unique,
thanks to London School of Public Relations.
ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) should be seen as opportunities instead of
threats or fears. In fact, AEC will provide great opportunities or business beyond
borders to develop our economy, to improve our trade, manpower, and eventually to
generate prosperity to our people.
Through the sheer numbers of preparation, we could strengthen our domestic
capacity such as infrastructure, manufacturing, education, professionals, and we
will be able to withstand competition and embracing challenges and even past the
twist and turn of economy.
To the millions of good people in ASEAN who are looking forward to be part of
this community, you will witness ASEAN in 2015 and beyond, a community that is
politically cohesive, economically integrated and socially responsible. Finally I wish
to attribute my message to ASEAN people, to London School of Public Relations
as well as to all participants of ASEAN Public Relations Summit 2015, “the mind is
everything, what you think you become” so let’s think the best for ASEAN and be a
partaker.

The Future of ASEAN in Global Economic Community
Inspirational Message from
Ambassador Republic of Indonesia to ASEAN
As we are only months away from entering the ASEAN Community, Public Relations
must play a major role in promoting and developing ASEAN as an integrated
market for trade and investment. Being an integrated economic region, ASEAN
will facilitate the freedom of movement of skilled labour and professionals. The
agreement for the freedom of movement will enable comparisons of qualifications
across ASEAN Member States, while at the same time support and enhance each
country’s national qualifications framework or qualifications systems that are
currently at varying levels of development, scope and implementation. In that
sense, professionals in Public Relations need to gather and convene discussions
on how the transformation of their profession will take place in a manner that is
acceptable to all of the 10 ASEAN Member States, regardless of their cross-cultural
differences.
The convening of the 1st ASEAN Public Relations Summits (APRS) on February
2015 in Batam, Indonesia, will serve as the initial engagement of professionals
in Public Relations from all ASEAN Member States. This event will certainly be
a good opportunity to deliberate challenges and the future of Public Relations in
the region. The convening of this Public Relations Summit is projected to further
improve the growth and dynamics of corporations through public relations in this
region as we embark the new regional economic era.
Allow me to wish the successful and fruitful deliverables in the 1st ASEAN Public
Relations Summit; may this be a first to many cooperation in strengthening the
capacity and competitiveness Public Relations as a professional in this region.

About Serikat Perusahaan Pers (SPS)
SPS – The Indonesian News Publisher’s Association was established in June
8th 1946, as a place for news publisher’s gathering. Experiencing the dynamic
of social - politic and economic situations in this country, one of the greatest
moments to transform this organization as a modern organization, happened in
2011, coincides with the 23rd Congress at Bali in June 7 - 9th 2011. After 65 years of
the organization’s existence, SPS re-branded, changed the logo, and transformed
itself to be more than an organization for news publishers (newspaper, tabloid, and
magazine).
The transformation of organization’s name and logo from Serikat Penerbit
Suratkabar (SPS) into Serikat Perusahaan Pers (SPS) enabled SPS to be an
organization for every wide press company, not only for print media, but also for
non – print media such as online and broadcast. Judging the transformations
caused by the dynamic impulse that is occurring in the global media business
industry today, who would have assumed that now and in the future, the media
business will also transform into a new platform as an information business. But
regardless of the types of media platforms, content or information is the “soul” and
the product to be distributed.
By December 2014, SPS had 471 currently members of press publishers, from
30 branch of SPS all over Indonesia. The contribution of SPS members in the
advertising expenditure from all of print media in 2014 amounted 36,164 billion
rupiahs (on gross), from all the circulations of print media that reached to 31,1
million copies, SPS members have already donated about 19 million copies.
Now and in the future, SPS reaffirmed the vision and mission to keep enforcing
the freedom in the press business and also to build healthy and dignified press
industry. It’s all threaded in the work program based on sections such as Education,
Media Research, Young Readers Campaign, Advocacy, and Consolidation of the
Organization.
