Simple Jacket/Fabulous Fabric
Barbara Crawford / Crawford Designs
Join designer Barbara Crawford for a day of discovery while learning to design the fabric and construct
this tasteful art-to-wear wool jacket. In her downto-earth laid-back style Barbara will first guide you
through several surface design techniques. Various
options will be explored as you learn how to strategically remove color from the fabric using “Catch
and Release”. Next, add some texture by using
free motion stitching and applying hand dyed wool
pebbles on the collar and scattered across the jacket
front. The fun is made complete when you quickly
stitch up this simple garment, making and adding
custom bias binding, the easy way! Go home with a
fabulous new jacket and several new techniques to
share with your friends.

and Release, hand dyed wool pebbles, stabilizer, pattern and use of instructor stencils, brushes and paints.

cowl neckline. Go home with two new pieces for
your wardrobe and the knowledge of how to create
fabulous bias-cut garments!

have the opportunity to try on fitting muslins to help
determine the best starting size. These muslins are
used to determine which adjustments are necessary

Sweaters: Couture to Costume
Andrea Schewe / Andrea Schewe Design
Join fashion and costume pattern designer Andrea
Schewe for a fun filled day of creativity. This lovely
sweater is an original design by Andrea that will
make an adorable little everyday sweater, a stunning
evening cover-up or a cute little costume piece.
Create this wearable art sweater by cutting up 2 or 3
thrift store sweaters and sewing them together with
irregular hems and edgings, making the sweater
shapelier, adding trims and other embellishments.
Students will work in pairs because some pinning
and fitting need to be done on the wearer. Think of
this as the sewing equivalent of water color painting.
All the edges are soft and the garment is planned and
created as you make it.
Kit Fee $5.00: includes misc. trims and bias tape.
Please bring your own sewing machine to class.
