Entering his 21st season behind
the Plattsburgh State bench with the
2009-10 campaign, Bob Emery has established himself as one of the nation’s
top head coaches in all of NCAA college
men’s ice hockey. His resume speaks
for itself: two national championships,
13 NCAA tournament appearances
including eight trips to the Division III
semifinals, 12 SUNYAC championships
and 16 All-Americans.
Emery’s 446-140-44 career record
makes him the winningest coach in the
program’s storied history, and his .743
winning percentage ranks in the Top 5
all-time in the NCAA. He ranks sixth
among Division III active coaches with
446 victories.
He led Plattsburgh to four titles in
2007-08: Primelink Great Northern
Shootout, Cardinal Classic, SUNYAC
regular-season and SUNYAC tournament (4-3 over Oswego, the 2007 NCAA
and defending conference champion).
Emery’s teams have won 20 games
in a season 14 times, including a 32-22 campaign in 1992 when Plattsburgh
captured its first NCAA title with him
at the helm. The Cardinals recorded a
trifecta of championships that season,
adding crowns in the ECAC West Division and SUNYAC.
Emery and company won their second
NCAA championship in 2001, upsetting
previously-undefeated and top-ranked
Rochester Institute of Technology 6-2
on the Tigers’ home ice in the finals. The
Cardinals went 29-5 in NCAA competition and swept the SUNYAC regularseason and tournament titles.

Field House Tennis Courts
Cardinal Softball Park
The Plattsburgh State Cardinals women's tennis team uses six courts
located on the west side of the Field House. The facility's courts were
recently resurfaced and had windscreens installed. The facility is also
used for recreational use.
Plattsburgh State's 500-seat facility features dugouts, a two-story
pressbox, batting cage, long toss area and bullpens. Opened in
1999 for the first year of the program, it has hosted two SUNYAC
tournaments, a NCAA Regional Championship and numerous high
school playoff games. It is located on the west end of the Field House
grounds, off Rugar Street.
Cardinal Turf Field
Located in front of the Plattsburgh State Field House, this 500-seat,
lighted facility is home to the soccer and men's lacrosse teams. A new
playing surface was installed before the 2004 season, as the synthetic
material of sand and rubber mixture--topped with plastic blades of
grass--can dissipate 3 inches of rain per hour and provides consistent
playability, superior durability and traction. The field has hosted
numerous NCAA and conference tournament games.
Chip Cummings Field
This facility has been home to the Plattsburgh State baseball team since
2003. "The Chipper" seats 511 and the field dimensions are 350 feet
down the lines, 402' to center field and 385' in the power alleys. In Oct.
2006, permanent bleacher seating was added and a 15-seat pressbox
with filmdeck was constructed. The baseball field is located behind the
Field House by following a dirt road near Cardinal Softball Park.
Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena
This 1,924-seat facility houses the four-time NCAA champion men's and
women's hockey teams. The Arena, with a 185x85 ice sheet, is part of the
Plattsburgh State Field House, opening in 1972. The Arena experienced
a $2.1 million renovation during Summer 2008 to improve spectator
navigation; install seamless, pro-tempered glass and new dasher boards;
and construct an expanded pressbox with Internet connections.
Memorial Hall
Built in 1961, this 1,000-seat facility is home to the Cardinal volleyball and
basketball teams, intramurals and administrative/coaches offices. It also
has a state-of-the art Fitness Center, swimming pool, locker rooms and
classrooms. The men's basketball program thrilled home fans with three
straight SUNYAC championships and NCAA tournament appearances
from 2006-08, including serving as the host team for the 2008 NCAA
Sectional Championship with the winner advancing to the Final Four.
Rugar Woods
The Plattsburgh State men's and women's cross country teams' home
course winds between the Field House and Saranac River. Local
residents can also enjoy traversing 10 miles of trails by biking, running
or walking. Soft-surface running is prevalent, helping to prevent running
injuries during 5-, 6- and 8-kilometer races hosted on campus. The 2005
SUNYAC Cross Country Championships were hosted here.
