Meet the Coaching Staff
Kris Doorey
Head Coach
The 2010 season
will mark the ninth
year that the Plattsburgh State baseball program will
be in the hands of
head coach Kris
Doorey, who was
chosen to resurrect
the sport in 2002
after a 26-year hiatus at the College.
The winningest coach in school history with 145 victories, Doorey has
built the Cardinals from club status
to one of the top NCAA Division III
teams in the New York Region. In
July 2009, Doorey was appointed to
the NCAA Division III Baseball Committee that administers the national
championship, conducts regional
rankings and develops playing rules
governing the sport.
Doorey has produced 26 all-State
University of New York Athletic Conference selections, 13 all-region picks
and two-time Jewish Sports Review
All-American Matt Kahan over the last
eight years. In addition, Plattsburgh
has advanced to the postseason
every year since 2003.
During the 2009 campaign, he was
named the SUNYAC Coach of the
Year for the second time while piloting
the Cardinals to nine more wins than
the year before, going from 15-21 to
24-17 overall. Plattsburgh registered
the fourth-most victories in school
history and recorded its first-ever win
in the SUNYAC Tournament.
In 2007, Plattsburgh (25-15 overall)
went 9-5 in SUNYAC games and a
second-place tie for its highest finish
ever in the conference. The Cardinals
beat two nationally-ranked opponents
in #3 Cortland and #29 Brockport.
The 2006 Cardinals had their best
season by going 27-14 (10-4 in the
SUNYAC) while setting school records for victories, winning percentage of .659 (based on a 15-game
schedule) and conference wins.
A native of Peru, N.Y., Doorey is
and his wife Michelle were married in
August 2003. The couple has a son,
Brady (6), and daughter, Ava (3).
Mike Bergman
Assistant Coach
Mike Bergman enters his
fifth year as the lead assistant on the Plattsburgh
State baseball coaching
staff, charged with developing pitchers and being
involved with all aspects of
the program.
Bergman developed sophomore Matt Kelley into one
of the top pitchers in the 2007 SUNYAC campaign, as Kelley was first-team all-SUNYAC
during his first year in the conference. Two
years later, Matt O’Leary was tabbed the
conference rookie of the year
In 2006, the Cardinals ranked third in SUNYAC team earned-run average at 3.73, tying
a school record since the sport was reinstated
in 2002. Under Bergman’s tutelage, RHP Dan
Hoffman earned first-team all-SUNYAC and
second-team all-region accolades, and Hoffman along with Matt Dahlin attained seven
victories to tie a school single-season record.
A four-year player from 2002-05, Bergman’s
name can be found throughout the school’s
career pitching record book: T-2nd with 40
appearances, T-3rd with 13 victories, 3rd with
167 innings, 5th with 101 strikeouts and 6th
in winning percentage.
Bergman graduated from Plattsburgh State
in 2005 with a bachelor of science degree in
business.

What is Friends of Plattsburgh State Athletics?
Friends of Plattsburgh State Athletics joins together Alumni, Parents,
and Friends who, through their financial support, are committed to the
success of Cardinal Athletics.
Athletics at SUNY Plattsburgh has a long history of success. Although we are proud of our many achievements and championship
teams over the years, we define success in much broader terms.
In addition, our programs are evaluated on more than competitive
excellence; high value is placed on academic achievement and the
commitment to community service by our student-athletes.
We believe the major accomplishments of our program cannot
be measured; they occur off the field and after graduation when our
student-athletes use the skills they’ve learned in the Cardinal Athletics
program to make their mark on the world.
Your gift to support Plattsburgh athletics helps provide students with
the tools they need for success - on and off the field.

Field House Tennis Courts
Cardinal Softball Park
The Plattsburgh State Cardinals women's tennis team uses six courts
located on the west side of the Field House. The facility's courts were
recently resurfaced and had windscreens installed. The facility is also
used for recreational use.
Plattsburgh State's 500-seat facility features dugouts, a two-story
pressbox, batting cage, long toss area and bullpens. Opened in
1999 for the first year of the program, it has hosted two SUNYAC
tournaments, a NCAA Regional Championship and numerous high
school playoff games. It is located on the west end of the Field House
grounds, off Rugar Street.
Cardinal Turf Field
Located in front of the Plattsburgh State Field House, this 500-seat,
lighted facility is home to the soccer and men's lacrosse teams. A new
playing surface was installed before the 2004 season, as the synthetic
material of sand and rubber mixture--topped with plastic blades of
grass--can dissipate 3 inches of rain per hour and provides consistent
playability, superior durability and traction. The field has hosted
numerous NCAA and conference tournament games.
Chip Cummings Field
This facility has been home to the Plattsburgh State baseball team since
2003. "The Chipper" seats 511 and the field dimensions are 350 feet
down the lines, 402' to center field and 385' in the power alleys. In Oct.
2006, permanent bleacher seating was added and a 15-seat pressbox
with filmdeck was constructed. The baseball field is located behind the
Field House by following a dirt road near Cardinal Softball Park.
Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena
This 1,924-seat facility houses the four-time NCAA champion men's and
women's hockey teams. The Arena, with a 185x85 ice sheet, is part of the
Plattsburgh State Field House, opening in 1972. The Arena experienced
a $2.1 million renovation during Summer 2008 to improve spectator
navigation; install seamless, pro-tempered glass and new dasher boards;
and construct an expanded pressbox with Internet connections.
Memorial Hall
Built in 1961, this 1,000-seat facility is home to the Cardinal volleyball and
basketball teams, intramurals and administrative/coaches offices. It also
has a state-of-the art Fitness Center, swimming pool, locker rooms and
classrooms. The men's basketball program thrilled home fans with three
straight SUNYAC championships and NCAA tournament appearances
from 2006-08, including serving as the host team for the 2008 NCAA
Sectional Championship with the winner advancing to the Final Four.
Rugar Woods
The Plattsburgh State men's and women's cross country teams' home
course winds between the Field House and Saranac River. Local
residents can also enjoy traversing 10 miles of trails by biking, running
or walking. Soft-surface running is prevalent, helping to prevent running
injuries during 5-, 6- and 8-kilometer races hosted on campus. The 2005
SUNYAC Cross Country Championships were hosted here.
