Yingkou's library will be located in a
newly developed land that will include
sevral governmental and cultural
buildings. The program mixes archives
and library.
Given strict budget constraints, the
shape had to be rationalized after the
Concept phase in order to be built
efficiently.
The podium is designed as a continuity of the plazza and softens the limits of the building. The main entranc eis on level 2 while secondary access
remains on F1.
Schematic Design has been completed

The building is conceived as a strong
element in the urban landscape of
Vientiane, being one the few 5 floors
buildings in the city and destined to
represent the fiability of a chinese bank.
The spaces are conceived around a
central atrium welcoming the clients.
The ground floor is dedicated to the
operations and the upper floors to the
offices.
In order to preserve the occupants from
the heat and sunshine, the facade is
covered with louvers.

Three proposals have been made for this
competition for the headquarters of the
China Investment Corporation.
This 260m high tower is an office tower
with mixed functions in the podium. The
site is located in Beijing new CBD, East
of the 3rd ring.
The first option is further developed on
the left page, as it is the one I worked
on most. The shape is generated by 2
squares, the top one being smaller and
rotated 90'. It creates elegant lines while
keeping a relatively rational plan.
The limited podium allowed us to work
on a verticality with a direct anchor to
the ground.

This project is set in Zongbujidi Business District in Fengtai. The pavillion is
located between high office buildings.
The client intention was to bring diversity in the monofunctional area by
introducing new functions and new schedules.
The proposed program merges selling and tasting, along with a technical and
administrative area, for the control, storage and aging of the wine.
The existing building is renovated and extended with the addition of the
garden, the cellar (in the underground parking) and a second floor.

The project is organized around a
central limestone well, which goes up to
the roof and down to the cellar.
The vertical circulations and the light
transmission are articulated around
the central well. The spaces open and
develop around this well, towards
gardens and patios which punctuate the
perspectives and protect the inner space
from sight from neighboring towers.
Inner spaces are quiet and bright, and
only natural materials are used to
respect the essence of the place : the
wine.
The first floor expresses massivity and
protection with stone walls and narrow
openings, while the second floor is a
light addition to the base. The different
volumes are linked by lower and smaller
interspaces.

The cellar is a space of storage and aging, and
also a space for tasting.
The entire space is made of stone in order to
recreate this unique cave feeling.
Ditches of small gravel around the cellar
allow the manager to add water and regulate
the humidity rate.
A direct entrance on the parking is provided
for deliveries. The technical room hosts the
very complex air conditionning system for
the wine cellar.

The second floor of the restaurant
houses offices and VIP rooms. They are
very bright spaces, revolving around the
well.
We find stone again in the VIP rooms,
forming a deep wall with niches and
fireplaces.
Fot the design of the sliding doors
departing the two rooms, we worked
in tight collaboration with Gwenaelle
Chassin de Kergommeaux, who entirely
realized the decorations (egg shells,

Beijing city government
This competition took place in 2010
and was regarding the main avenue of
Beijing, Changanjie. In order to extend
the avenue to the west to Mentougou
district, the government set up a
competition for a bridge on the 400m
wide Yongding river.
The bridge has very strong symbolic
importance : door to the mountain, door
to the city.
We worked in tight collaboration with
the engineer Bernard VIRY to elaborate
the concept of the bridge.
Total lenght of the bridge is 591m, with
a 280m range between piles.
The deck is 30m wide for the cars (8 lanes)
and 6m on each side for pedestrians and
bicycles.
Masts are steel filled with concrete at
the base and built as one with the beams.
Foundation on one side is fit, the other
is sliding.

The aera being subject to traffic
structuration by the government, the
block has been surrounded by avenues
on its four sides.
The city fabric inside the block is very
dense and rich, made of 200 years old
houses with precise handcraft, vault
buildings from the cultural revolution
time, and more recent 2-floors
residential bars. The area is mostly
rural, the inhabitants cultivate fields
around the forts.
Many ancient earth and brick buildings
are being destroyed by their owners
to rebuild "clean". Circulations are
incomplete, often blocked, and the
empty spaces are being colonised by
illegal construction.
An intervention is urgent, but we
doubt that a planning without political
strenght can make things change. The
main concern from Pingyao Government
seems to be the west parking and the
touristic center and they barely notice
the Regulation book we established.
Indeed, we will observe in 2011 that
nothing has been done for preservation.

The main concept for the whole area is
to create a pedestrian path between the
west parking and the north-south axis
going then up to the city gate. People
along this path will discover ancient
architecture, the museum, the forts, on
a road that sometimes becomes as wide
as plazza.
The first step was to design a coherent
road system, that would preserve the
existing scaling : pedestrian venels,
small streets, main streets, avenues and
connect them all together.
We chose to create a south-north new
commercial street (not on the same
trace as the existing road) that would
come along the park activities and take
some load off the old city.
We also made the difficult choice of
destroying many existing bad quality
housing and rebuild the area with highstandard architecture.
The areas around the forts are also
knocked down in order to create a green
belt and give respiration to the forts.
Inner plazzas are restored as well, and
the fort walls and identity rebuilt.

The Tourism Center of Pingyao is located
within the South District. This building
should welcome the visitors arriving in
the city from the parking, as well as
introduce to them the city of Pingyao. It
regroups several functions: information,
exhibition, resting area, bathroom,
ticket selling and electric cars terminal
towards the old city.
The features of the building give a
new interpretation to traditional
architecture: materials (brick, wood,
earth, and tile), shape (courtyard,
gallery), orientation (north-south). It is
a place to gather, that will then lead the
visitors towards the ancient Gubao, and
then to the south-north axis leading to
the ancient city of Pingyao.
Gejianzhu
Pingyao Tourism Center

The main idea is to use traditionnal
rythms and shapes in a contemporary
way.
The global shape of the building
takes in the main direction axis,
north-south and then towards the
museum and old city.
The center is conceived as an open
courtyard. The south facade is
widely open and hosts the tourism
functions. High and clear halls are
separated by brick walls in which
we open vaults.
These brick blocks are also used
as technical spaces : for light,
ventilation, pipes...
The south building hosts the
bathrooms on the first floor and a
restaurant upstairs.
The last block on the South side
is a technical room for heating,
electricity, guards room, etc.

We elaborated the concept for this hotel
/appartments and shops located on the
west side of Pingyao city by studying
traditional architecture in Shanxi.
N
We worked on recreating a human-scaled
urban structure with streets, alleys and
courtyards. We also designed the buildings
from the original cave dwellings as well
as upground architecture in Pingyao.
They share the same idea of a solid earth
or brick base covered with brick vaults
and a heavy earth filling, and a lighter
construction on the top, usually made of
wood.

Shuguanglu is an east-west wide
avenue located south of the old city of
Pingyao. On its sides we can find many
institutional buildings: town house, tax
office, police office, court of law, city
planning office, school, hospital, along
with a few hotels , restaurants and
shops. Housing zones are located at the
back of these buildings.
We worked on these main points to build
the concept :
- give structure and space to this very
wide and empty avenue
- qualify parks and squares
- provide usable public space on the
forecourts
- give clear access to the backyard
housing and buildings
Section on the park
Gejianzhu

We redefined the alleys serving the
back zones and used them as separators
between forecourts. We used the
existing trees (planted every 7.3m) as a
frame and rythm for the street.
We chose to link the different pedestrian
spaces : pavement, bicycle lane,
intermediate public zone and forecourts.
This ground is 15cm higher than the
street and unified by one material. The
zebra crossings use the same material
and same height, creating bumps to slow
down traffic.
Forecourts are treated each according to
the building requirements : circulation,
public space, parkings, gardens, flags
and official notices...

The client's project was to rebuild the
existing house in this valley located north
of the city of Huairou. The farm would
become a guest house and the southern
building would become ahis private villa.
His companion and her family would also
have their own part.
We began by assessing and understanding
the topography, context, landscape
elements, and proposed a first concept
based on level lines reinforcement and
view orientation.
This project gave us the opportunity to
think about mountain architecture and
to try out technics to build low energy
houses.

Paris XIII
2007
Research and project on Paris Rive
Gauche
An accurate assessment of the limits,
landmarks and different territories was
the starting point to analyse the site.
The Parisian Ring road was the major
element I worked with. Most of the
time, it’s evoqued as absolute evil. But
in that place, the bridge shape offers
great opportunities of fluidity between
Paris and the close suburb. At the same
time, the Ring road is one of the main
mark and limit in the Parisian landscape.
The project was made with this paradox.
On one hand, one can practice freely
the fluidity with the linear public space
(south-west). On the other hand, the
limit of the Ring is clearly printed in
the building.\I worked the density not
by adding but by removing, imagining
a maximum volume and digging into it
to create yards, alleys and gardens, to
bring light, to allow views.

We first built a model of the site that
could accurately represent the existing
surroundings. We then began to analyse
the PLU (urban rules), the density, to
co;pare volumes and surfaces.
Then only we began to propose concepts
and ideas. Finally, we found what the
front square had to be kept, and the
back built as an inversed Parisian island :
the Haussman facades on the inside, and
a contemporary Paris facade proposal on
the outside.

PERSONAL HOUSE
2013
House in Hebei
This family house is being built in a small farmers' village in Hebei. We focused
on integrating the house in the very distinctive landscape of the village, with
its rows of poplars, yellow mists and harsh winters.
With a very tight budget and a wish to melt down in the local landscape, we
chose red bare brick from a Hebei factory as the main material. We also used
local prefab concrete for the windows lintels and the slabs. The house is built
on collaborative concrete structure/brick walls.
2013-under construction
The house is conceived around convivial spaces, double heights, generous
spaces and chosen views on this beautiful and tough territory.
The plan gives all main openings to the South while the North facade shelters
narrow technical spaces to protect the house. Narrow and high windows open
on the West towards the fields, following the patterns of the poplar trees.
