I always ask myself, “Why Oregon?”. In the past 36 years, I have lived and worked in California. After moving to Oregon, after my wife’s cancer, to have a fresh start, my answer to this is...the Lord brought my wife and me to Oregon, to fulfill another chapter in our lives. It all started when a fellow Christian asked me if I would like to offer my support to the homeless in Newport. I said “yes” because, it is the perfect opportunity to serve the people in need. I always wanted to help the homeless, but I was always busy and have focused on my career, back in California. Now, my focus is to serve the Lord, and help our fellow Christians and non believers. My son, Martin, and I have passions for cars and racing. I started amateur racing in 1995, and my son started racing when he was 15 yrs old. Last February, FREE my son visited us from California. On Thursdays, I volunteer at Inter Christian Outreach, and I brought him with me several times. He saw and learned the different lives of the homeless, and it broke his heart. He realized how blessed he is. One day, after we arrived home from ICO, he ordered a couple of tents to donate, since ICO ran out of tents that day. And, since we know and love cars, and he is in the car business. He had an idea to have a car show to benefit Inter Christian Outreach and Greg Dino continued on page 11 10% of the September POST advertising will go to Inter-Christian Outreach, Newport by Scott Albright As a licensed broadcast station, we adhere to all the guidelines and rules dictated by the FCC (Federal Communications Commision). And on September 28, 2016, the FCC is conducting a national emergency broadcast test. And we’ll be participating. We’ve been a part of the Emergency Alert System, but this national test has caused us to upgrade both hardware and software, so that we can comply. And it hasn’t been easy! (Even though the program is called “EasyCast”). The first thing we realized was that we needed to buy a software program to the tune of $1,000. Thats right...a thousand Listen Live: Windsofpraise.com Radio Update dollars. And because of faithful friends and supporters to this ministry, we were able to make the purchase, without a major fundraising appeal! And then it has taken time and coordination. Chief engineer Joe Joncas brought in his friend Jim Thorusen, who used to work with CBS as an engineer in California. Music Director Don Heist had already associated us with Jim Leslie, computer pro, and the work was underway. The first hurdle was to have everything prepared so that we would be registered correctly by August 26. We made that deadline. And as of this writing, the national test is still weeks away, but I am confident that with God’s blessings, we’ll have succeeded. I want to humbly thank everyone who has helped. From the faithful givers, to the skilled workers. I’ve stated it before that there is so much potential with this little station. I would ask that you’d continue to pray for Winds of Praise, and that we’d hear clearly what our Father in and listen and that we can keep journeying together, under God’s protection and care. It’s all about Him. His will. His kingdom. wants. That’s what Jesus did. He listened, he heard, and his steps were sure. This is a walk, day by day, in faith. Amy and one of the girls showed up on our doorstep with a complete dinner to welcome us when we moved in. A part of their early love story is that Amy was a Sunday School teacher for Matt’s kids from a previous marriage. Adopted children and more foster children entered their family. Up nearly before dawn for devotions, and homeschooling in recent years, Amy kept things running in the household, while New Lives Matt provided for his family, besides working as a volunteer fire fighter. Barbeques and family celebrations--an adoption and graduations-- included us empty nesters. Scott loved hearing and seeing the young boys playing outside often...climbing trees; playing games around their firewood pile; or scooting around on play cars, and with their alert dog, “Pepper”. I was honored to be asked to periodically care for Katie, in her late teens, born with spina bifida. She taught me the board game of “Sorry!”; told me in her soft spoken, but sometimes gravely voice (due to breathing issues) all about her “so awesome” summer adventures at Camp Attitude; and did crafts with me. One important thing during my visits was to remind Katie to stay hydrated, as she did not have the abilty to sense thirst. She kept a water bottle nestled in her wheelchair at all times. As Katie reached her early 20’s, finishing an extended education program at Newport High, and like any young adult, wanted to spread her wings. She moved to a group home in the valley. Then several months ago, as Matt cleared a patch and spread bark dust near the curb of their property, Amy called me over to chat as the kids played in the front yard. Matt was applying for a better employment opportunity in Washington State. That explained their recent trip to Washington, photos on Facebook, exploring the tourist-y places. Now, Matt and Amy’s house is dark and quiet, and I take care of their fluffy hens in their backyard, who are awaiting new owners. It is hard to look around at the fire pit, now void of patio furniture, often the site of gatherings. This family is very much missed, and we are praying for their home to sell and to be filled with another set of great neighbors. Just as the last of their major belongings had been unloaded from a giant moving van at their new home, Matt and Amy received a call that Katie had passed. Utter shock to them, and shock to anyone who heard the news. As her dad shared on Facebook, Katie is now dancing in Heaven. She doesn’t have to be reminded to stay hydrated “From the Water-of-Life Well I give freely to the thirsty” (Revelation 21:6; Message Bible). Katie’s breathing is no longer rough. She is experiencing what those of us on Earth who know Jesus are still waiting for. “We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthly bodies into glorious bodies like His own. He’ll make us beautiful and WHOLE with the same powerful skill by which He is putting everything as it should be, under and around Him” (Phillippians 3:20-21; Message Bible). I like to let my imagine go and can picture her blue eyes twinkling as Jesus is showing her all the “so awesome” things in the mansion He prepared for her (“However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’ — the things God has prepared for those who love him—” 1 Corinthians 2:9, NIV). There are probably pantries filled with any kind of ingredient for baking to her heart’s content; “craft” supplies of the rarejewels and the finest quilting materials; jigsaw puzzles stacked miles high; endless fields and beaches for running and “camps” out of this world, with beautiful lakes where she can go boating or swim like a fish, unhindered by her legs that didn’t work on Earth. And no need for even a life jacket. Yes, no “life jacket” needed in Heaven...nothing to be saved from anymore, as Jesus took care of all that; Katie has arrived...it is the ultimate, eternal life. We pray for her dear family...God’s comfort; good memories; and grace. 6 1 0 2 r e b m e Sept d r a o B n i t e l l u B T. 10 P E S . 2 VOLUNTEER NEEDED: g P ay & See or for Depoe B ut rib st di T S O P : ch Gleneden Bea onth. m r pe approx. 1 hr. se.com st@windsofprai po li, el K ct ta Con 18 or 541-272-15 le”: at the Po “See You ge 4 ’s UP”, pa See “Surf W FUN YO ind o “c Mus UT s of ppo ha ic H P r t po t” sh sho beh rais uni e t s w i o n Le sib w ? d n y! av ilit ? O ur primary goal is to encourage people to worship God, in the name of Jesus Christ, every day, 24 hours a day. We do this primarily through the broadcast of contemporary (modern) praise and worship music. We have live DJs at specific times throughout the day. We have time available for the rebroadcast of local church sermons and Bible teachings. We are not from any one denomination, but work with many people from many Christian denominations and groups. Page 11 Don’t Envy- No Envidies - Proverbs 23:17-18 Introductory question: As a child do you remember somebody you knew from the neighborhood or school getting something you wanted? How did that make you feel? Pregunta de Introducción: En tu niñez, recuerdas algunas vez que le hayan comprado algo que tu deseabas a un conocido de la vecindad o escuela? ¿Cómo te hizo sentir esto? Proverbs 23: 17-18 (NLT) Don’t envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord. 18 You will be rewarded for this; your hope will not be disappointed. Proverbio 23: 17-18 (NTV) No envidies a los pecadores, en cambio, teme siempre al Señor. 18 Si lo haces, serás recompensado; tu esperanza no se frustrará. Definition of the word Envy: It is feeling of grief, resentment or irritation produced in a person because of the desire of happiness or possession of others. The introductory questions could have brought a few memories where it could have caused for you to laugh. When I see small children and see certain things they do, for example say in a loud voice that they pooped in their diaper or all of the sudden we see them running naked, I always ask myself, when does this stop being cute? I ask myself the same question about envy because there are some people that even though they have the age to reason certain things in life, they continue with envy in their hearts to an extend that they are not content and have no peace. felicidad o las posesiones de otras personas. Definición de la palabra Envidia: Es el sentimiento de tristeza, resentimiento o irritación producido en una persona por el deseo de obtener la Let’s see what the Bible has to say about this topic: Envy could cause for somebody to back slide: Psalms 73: Please read all of Underwriter the Chapter from your bible. Message: We have read the warning from the word of God about envy and one of the reasons is because God wants us to prosper in every area. Prosperity starts in the soul receiving the gift from God, who is Christ. Month Dee Ann Bogue, author of “Tansy and the 2,000 Earthquakes” We spent a couple of days in Portland to celebrate our anniversary. I have a special love for the city of my childhood – the trees, the views of Mt Hood, the rivers, the library, Meier & Frank, Mt Tabor, streetcars. We ogled over the displays at the Oregon Historical Society, headed for Washington Park’s Rose Garden, and then had dinner with a Portland cousin at a Lebanese restaurant. Dan LunDy Dan Lundy, Messenger Ministries Page 10 I also indulged my favorite vacation pastime: sleeping late, drinking motel coffee in bed while watching the morning shows with their gossip, news, and hopefully stimulating interviews. But with all these pleasures, what I didn’t do was have my daily time with the Lord. Yes, I saw the Gideon Bible in the bedside drawer, but… well, I had another swig of coffee, adjusted the 4 pillows behind my head, and snuggled down under the quilt. Lately I had been reading the “Daily Bread,” enjoying its stories and Scripture. Sometimes I also read out of my dad’s Episcopal Prayer Book, or from another devotional, or I studied a topic or author that had piqued my interest. I’ve been pretty regular lately. It’s funny how easy it is to avoid that necessary part of my day. It usually means giving up some other good thing that I could be doing. Even something good for others! But of course I must hurry to a meeting, or get to my walking group or swimming pool for my workout; the phone rings, and there’s that birthday card I must get in the mail today. So many excuses! Here’s what I discovered about neglecting devotions those three days in Portland: I didn’t succumb to guilt; I didn’t forget the Lord or His love for me – He would never leave me nor forsake me; I didn’t yell at a driver who cut me off. But I did spend time justifying myself. My love became mushy for the One who had salvaged me from sin and despair. I put Him on the back burner. The roses were gorgeous and the weather was grand, but praising God for them wasn’t on my radar. I missed out on my usual sheer pleasure over God’s artistry and goodness. How sweet are thy words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey says Psalm 119:103. I missed that communion. And back home it seemed a chore opening my Bible and praying. Yet the Lover of my soul accused me not. Rather, He accepted my pitiful confession with His mercy, approving my repentance, and welcoming the prodigal. What’s not to love about this friend? Better than acres of roses or romps through history or sleeping late. Thank you, Lord. HOME FROM HYDABURG Where to begin. As you know from our last article, Hydaburg is on the south end of Prince of Wales Island in southeast Alaska. It is inhabited by the Haida people, for the most part. The population is just under 300. They are under attack from the enemy. The enemy is using alcohol, drugs, division and unforgiveness to rob, kill and destroy these people. We recognize the destruction as coming from satan. LaRita and I ask that you all remember the people of Hydaburg in your prayers and fastings. Our battles are fought and won in the spirit, not in the flesh. As believers it is our charge and our privilege to pray people out of bondage and into the kingdom. We are home in Siletz for a season. At some point we will return to the battle zone called Prince of Wales Island. We don’t know what the duration of our stay will be. My personal hope is that God will raise up Godly leadership from among the Haida people and break through the darkness of alcohol, drugs, death and shamanism. Since returning home we have had our local battles. One of our grandsons overdosed on drugs and nearly died. He was revived (I believe by God) and has since given his life over to Jesus. This is so exciting for us and we are so grateful to our Lord for His mercy and grace. We are re-engaging in Sacred Ground for a season and are enjoying being back with family and friends. We are especially excited to rejoin the worship team. We missed worshipping about as much as anything. We look forward to seeing folks in the community and at church and hope to share our experiences with you all in person. It was quite the eye-opener. I will close with this: God is good and He is in charge. Blessings. Editor’s note: Dan was the first responder for his grandson and performed CPR. This is one of two Underoath covers that Aaron tackles in this project, but unfortunately doesn’t translate as well acoustically as I had wished. There are a few originals on “Out of the Badlands”. The first one, “Raspberry Layer Cake”, is a different sound for Gillespie, as he tackles country for the first time. Even though I am not normally a country fan, I enjoy this song quite a bit. I like the way his voice works with the sporadic guitar work in the background. It’s worth a listen if you want to hear something different. The next original, “The Fox”, may be a little controversial (Gillespie’s blatant use of the S-word), but is one of the strongest choruses he has written since he left “Underoath”. Unfortunately, the strong chorus is buried by a weak and slow set of verses where Gillespie is virtually whispering. It’s supposed to be emotional, because this album came from a darker place in his life, but just starts off too slow for my liking. The last original song on the album, “You Don’t Love Me Anymore”, sounds a lot like his previous worship songs, but with personal, yet relatable lyrics. This is my favorite of the originals. Gillespie also covers “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt, and “Where the Streets Have No Name” by U2. Both of these covers HOWARD A. ADAMS Certified Public Accountant 833 S.W. Page 3 K elli A lbright Kelli @ the POSt POST Editor Kelli Albright with “Tux” the cat For the short few years that we have lived in the middle of Siletz, the house across the street teemed with young life and a friendly open door to us. 1 hr. se.com st@windsofprai po li, el K ct ta Con 18 or 541-272-15 le”: at the Po “See You ge 4 ’s UP”, pa See “Surf W FUN YO ind o “c Mus UT s of ppo ha ic H P r t po t” sh sho beh rais uni e t s w i o n Le sib w ? d n y! av ilit ? We should celebrate, that our community is free from crisis compared to the other parts of the country and the world. We really should know how important it is to give back to others in need. “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 ing as many new and old friends as possible-a prize for the person who brings the most new people to join the fun!
