PLACES OF SIGNIFICANCE & GAME DAY TRADITIONS
Pirtek Stadium
Pirtek Stadium is a place rich with Blue and Gold history. It opened on the 5th of March 1986
and played host to the Round One fixture between the mighty Eels and the St. George
Dragons just eleven days later.
Parramatta triumphed 36-6 with current Eels Chairman, Steve Sharp, scoring the first try in
a comprehensive victory to the home side.
Ray Price Statue:
The Ray Price Statue, located between Gates C and D outside the Peter Sterling Terrace at
Pirtek Stadium, is the place of most historical significance at Pirtek Stadium.
Affectionately known as ‘Mr. Perpetual Motion,’ Ray Price OAM is the Eels’ most recent
premiership-winning captain, leading Parramatta to Grand Final victory in 1986. The statue
was erected as a tribute to the great career Ray enjoyed with the Eels between 1976 and
1986, where he successfully represented both his state and country.
Ken Thornett Stand:
Ken Thornett is one of the most significant names in Parramatta history. A member of the
top 100 players of all-time list, and a captain-coach, Ken was the Eels’ key man during the
1960s and 1970s. The Western grandstand at Pirtek Stadium is named in his honour.
M ichael Cronin Stand:
Michael Cronin is the highest point-scorer in Eels history. After notching up an incredible
1971 points in a career spanning 9 years, the Eastern grandstand is named in his honour.
Peter Sterling Terrace:
Considered one of the best halfbacks of all time, Peter Sterling dazzled rugby league
crowds throughout the 1980s and early 1990s with his skill and finesse. The Northern terrace
at Pirtek Stadium is named in his honour.
Brett Kenny Terrace:
Dubbed the “best hands in rugby league”, Brett Kenny was an incredibly gifted rugby
league player who, along with Peter Sterling, formed one of the best halves combinations in
rugby league history. The Southern terrace at Pirtek Stadium is named in his honour.
The Sw arm
The Swarm is home to the most passionate of Eels supporters. If you love to get caught up
in the Blue and Gold fanfare on game day and love cheering your heart out, the Swarm is
the place to be! Located in Bays 63 and 64 of Pirtek Stadium.
2014 Parramatta National Rugby League Club
Peter “Chippy” Frilingos M edia Room :
Although off limits to the public, the Media Room at Pirtek Stadium is named after journalist
Peter “Chippy” Frilingos. It was Chippy who first nicknamed Parramatta “the Eels” in the
mid-1960s, based on the indigenous meaning for the word Parramatta: Burramatta, “where
Eels dwell”.
By the late 1970s the Club had officially adopted the moniker.
Cum berland Lounge:
The Cumberland Lounge at Pirtek Stadium refers to the corporate facility on the Western
side of the ground underneath the Ken Thornett Stand. The Cumberland Lounge offers the
ultimate game day experience in an executive lounge setting with a cocktail style menu and
platinum reserved seating on the halfway line. To find out more about the Cumberland
Lounge visit parraeels.com.au, or contact the Eels corporate team on 8843 0300.
Parram atta Leagues Club:
One of Sydney’s largest licensed venues, Parramatta Leagues Club is the home of the Eels.
Eels fans gather pre-and-post game at Parramatta Leagues for a drink and a meal.
ANZ Stadium
Opened in 1999 in preparation for the Sydney Olympics, ANZ Stadium is Sydney’s premier
sporting venue and currently seats 83,500. Located 10 kilometres from Pirtek Stadium, it
has played host to Parramatta Eels home games since 2008.

GAME DAY TRADITIONS
Blue and Gold Arm y Flag
In 2013 the Dyldam Parramatta Eels introduced the Blue and Gold Army Flag. Every home
game, the flag is raised in recognition of the people from the Parramatta and Eels
communities who make this club great.
From Members and supporters and those who have bled for the Blue and Gold, to Eels
greats, national and international celebrities, sports personalities and our local community
heroes, the Blue and Gold Army flag represents everyone who’s a part of the mighty
Parramatta Eels.
Cheerleaders
The Eels cheerleaders, known as the ‘Sweet P’s’ are always a sight to see on game day.
Catch them mingling in the stadium precinct and performing out on the field.
Parram atta Eels Songs
The Dyldam Parramatta Eels have a number of songs that the crowd sing throughout game
day:
• Click Go the Eels - which is the team’s victory song and played at home games after
every team victory;
• Parra Power to Win – which is played as the team runs out onto the field and
prompts the “PA-RRA” crowd chant;
• We Are the Eels – played in the precinct outside the ground at various times
throughout the day.
Lyrics for each of these songs are detailed in this booklet.
MASCOTS
Sparky and Sparkles
Sparky and Sparkles are the beloved Eels mascots who have been inseparable for years!
Together they lead the Eels run out every home game and can often be found in the
precinct and around the perimeter of the stadium prior to Eels home games.
2014 Parramatta National Rugby League Club
TEAM SONGS
There are three songs synonymous with the Parramatta Eels played throughout home
games: Click Go the Eels; Parra Power to Win; and We Are the Eels.
Click Go the Eels
You’ll hear a tremendous roar go up as Parra takes the field,
Just look at the Blue and Gold of the Mighty Eels,
They’re running out so fit and strong and kicking up their heels,
If you want to see how football’s played then come and see the Eels!
Flick goes the ball from man to man,
They’re strong in the tackle and sure with their hands.
They play it hard and fast, that’s the only way to win!
And when they post a try up, you should hear the fans all sing!
Good on ya Parra, you’re brave and bold!
You’re fighting fit and true blue and worth your weight in gold!
And when the other side slowly starts to yield,
We’ll raise our voices to the sky and glorify the Eels!
Parra Power to W in
PA-RRA! PA-RRA! PA-RRA! PA-RRA! PA-RRA! PA-RRA! PA-RRA! PA-RRA!
Oh when the Eels are flying,
They’re electrifying!
Nobody gonna stop them, when they hear the crowd roar!
Yeah I’m shouting!
PA-RRA! PA-RRA! I SAID PARRA POWER TO WIN
Shouting PA-RRA! PA-RRA!
Oh Parra power to win
You’ll never beat ‘em up front, and you can’t beat ‘em out on the wing!
So it’s PA-RRA! Yeah Parra power to win!
2014 Parramatta National Rugby League Club
W e Are the Eels
Here at the end of the river, in a city brave and bold
We have a team that is a dream,
They’ve got courage, they’ve got soul!
Watching our players go forward, tackling hard and kicking goals
Scoring tries, winning matches, and they wear the blue and gold!
Chorus
We are the Eels, we’re Parramatta
We’re getting better; we’re going up, up, UP!
We are the Eels, we’re Parramatta,
We’ll beat them all; we’ll win the cup!
Parramatta has a great history, the pioneers came here to grow,
With the Rum Corp and the convicts and free settlers with crops to sow.
They built a town that we’re proud of, we’ll fly the flag, we’ll hear the call
And our team, Parramatta, they play the greatest game of all!
Chorus
When you’re out on the paddock, you can hear your heart beat, right above the roar of the
crowd.
Hold those nerves, because you’re excited! You can see it, you can smell it, you’re so proud!
You’ve done the training, you’ve earned your number, now wear the colours of the blue and
the gold!
Run like wonder, hit like thunder!
Play it strong and sing out loud!
Chorus
