Atlanta Fire Alumnus Drew Baker making waves in the SPHL! :
Former Atlanta Fire star drew baker just won his second SPHL championship for the Pensacola IceFlyers last week!
Baker played his minor hockey for the Atlanta Fire, Hawkesbury in the central junior hockey league in Ontario, and played 1 year for the owls at Kennesaw state.

The Pensacola Ice Flyers created a fairytale ending to win another championship.
And it happened in the most amazing way possible.
Josh Cousineau flicked a backhand shot a split-second before regulation play ended, giving the Ice Flyers a dramatic 5-4 victory Thursday night against the Peoria Rivermen to sweep the SPHL President’s Cup Finals at the
Pensacola Bay Center.
“That was definitely awesome. That was the best,” said Cousineau, the team’s newly-minted hero. “We just got a lucky bounce at the end. My teammates threw it on the net and I just buried it.”

The Atlanta Fire Hockey Club and the Nashville Jr. Predators are joining forces in youth hockey. The two organizations have entered into a strategic partnership to enhance their existing elite hockey programs. This new
development-focused initiative will build off the strong coaching infrastructure, which is already in place at the Fire and Jr. Predators organizations. Players will benefit from joint coaching and development activities throughout
the regular season.
The purpose of the Fire-Predators program is to augment and increase skill development during the regular season, while also providing top players an avenue to compete in elite spring and summer tournaments. Launching
during the upcoming 2016-2017 season, the program will focus on the top travel teams in each age group.
“Our organizations have a shared focus on player development, so it makes sense for us to merge together as a community and combine our high-caliber coaching and facilities for additional training,” explained Curtis
Morrison, Director of Hockey for the Atlanta Fire. “In my opinion, every time players have the opportunity to be trained by and exposed to a different coach, it’s a positive,” Morrison added.
The director of hockey for the Nashville Jr. Predators organization, Jordan French, is equally enthusiastic about this new partnership. “We’re going to maximize our travel by incorporating skill development into our game
weekends, making this a very cost effective initiative for all player families,” said Jordan. “It will be an easy program to implement since both organizations have access to ice,” he added.
This partnership will also include jointly creating elite spring and summer tournament teams. “Aligning our organizations to enhance player development during the regular season and offering top talent the opportunity to
compete on an elite spring/summer tournament team brings enormous benefits to our players” said French.
Both organizations view this partnership as one more reason for players to try-out for their respective travel teams later this month. After all, to be eligible for the joint Fire-Predators elite tournament teams, players must play
for the Jr. Predators or the Atlanta Fire during the regular season.
About the Atlanta Hockey Club
The Atlanta Fire is a competitive hockey club operating out of The Cooler. The Fire organization offers youth hockey for all ages and levels of talent. They have a robust travel program, an in-house league as well as a learn-toplay program. Learn to Play Hockey. The Cooler Hockey Academy offers 4 levels of hockey lessons for students 4 - 12 years of age. Students will be instructed by USA Hockey certified coaches with many
years of experience in skating instruction. This Session of LTP Hockey class consists of sixty minute lessons on both Mondays and Wednesdays for a total of 16 practices. At the end of each
class, each group will be playing small area games.

The Vision:
The Fire House development hockey program, in conjunction with the Cooler Learn To Play Hockey program, envisions a multi layered skill development approach for all youth hockey players starting at the grass roots level. Capitalizing on the key skill acquirement years (9-12) our program is designed to get the young players more ice touches, and more puck touches. Implementing professionally structured practices, and skill development ice
sessions, our goal is to help the players reach their talent ceiling. Key Concepts of the Program:

6U-8U Mite Program:

This age category is critical to the success of any hockey program. The program is designed to have the kids moving, skating, touching pucks, playing games, and enjoying the game. Understanding how young kids think is the
key to maximizing their ice time with fun and challenging drills. Skills stations will best help them achieve basic, and fine-tuned motor skills. Remembering that hockey is the only sport where a young player has to completely
learn how to balance on skates before doing anything else, our main focus is to create an atmosphere of learning the game in a fun positive setting.
10U Squirt Program:
Skill Development Days: Monday and Wednesday 5:40 pm Squirt Games: Saturday Mornings 9:30 or 10:45am
This is the start of the optimal years of skill acquirement for all young hockey players. The goal is to push the players to acquire all the necessary skills to be a successful player moving forward into their teen years. Building off
the basics they will have acquired in the Mite program, we are now building those skills alongside with the understanding of the game. Using small area games and lots of repetition to build muscle memory, players will
continue to refine their skills.
12U Peewee Program:
Skill Development Days: Monday and Wednesday 5:40 pm Peewee Games: Saturday 5:30 or 6:45pm

understanding, power-play and penalty kill intro and learning how to play the ultimate team game. Using small area games and lots of repetition to build muscle memory, players will continue to refine their skills.
14U Bantam Program:
Team Practices: Friday 7pm Bantam Games: Saturdays Times TBD
The 14U hockey program will continue to give players an avenue to play hockey for fun in a competitive non travel setting. The teams will receive one hockey practice on Friday nights, as well as play games over the weekend
but typically on Sunday afternoons.
This program has the possibility to be coupled with a non-check high school hockey league which will provide players with supplemental games as well as competition without having to commit to a travel level schedule. The
Fire development program is a proud member of the AYHL hockey league started in 2013 by 3 programs, and has now expanded to 4 programs within the city of Atlanta.

This team will be comprised of the top 2008/2009 players within the city of Atlanta. They will play a half ice format versus the other facilities within the city, as well as attend Jamboree style tournaments to fast track these players for the full ice

The 2016/17 squirt minor team will be comprised of many of our Mite Travel players from last year’s season. Coach Adam Pollock will return as the Head hockey coach for the upcoming season, and will continue to develop a strong core of
young players. This will be the team’s first year playing within the Southern Youth Hockey League (SYTHL) which will provide the team with 5 league weekends comprised of 4 games. This team will play a competitive exhibition schedule, as well
as coordinate their season’s tournament schedule prior to the tryout dates.

Our squirt major team will be comprised of a predominantly 2006 birth year as we move our squirt minors into a AA setting. Coach Rick Cawston stays on as the head hockey coach, and will have lots of help with the addition of Jeff Sanders to the
Fire hockey program. Jeff is finishing up his last pro season, and has worked with the San Jose JR Sharks U10 development program in the past. The team will compete in a competitive league, and have an exhibition/tournament schedule to best

Associate Coach: The 2016/17 Peewee A-2 level hockey club will compete in a strong yet local schedule combining both travel level development, a strong exhibition schedule as well as tournaments. With the ability to schedule games within the city this gives
players at the 12 u level an option for a little more competitive schedule all the while limiting the amount of trips for exhibition weekends away from Atlanta.

The 2016/17 Peewee minor team will look to build off a successful 2015 season, with head coach Mike Lozano moving up with the team. Last year the team set an independent schedule, and played a very competitive schedule. They will look to
supplement their games with a series of quality tournaments. The team will stay focused on the individual development of the players, and will look to enhance their hockey intelligence. They will also begin to enhance their off ice conditioning
regimen to continue the players on a path to elite level hockey in the future, as they will represent the Atlanta Fire at the 2017/18 Peewee Quebec tournament. Practice Schedule:

Fresh of a tremendous 2015/16 season the Atlanta Fire 2004 team is back, and will represent the Atlanta Fire and Georgia for the second year in a row at the Peewee Quebec tournament. With a staff second to none, this group of players strives
to be the best peewee team in the city of Atlanta. This team played one of the most challenging schedules in the country last season, and faired extremely well with a predominantly minor birth year team. As a team they will once again train
and develop during the summer months at a variety of camps, including the prestigious Paul Vincent’s hockey camp http://pv-hockey.com/ , who trained both Greg Davis as well as Steve Jacobs throughout their minor hockey and college careers.

In 2016/17 we will be fielding three competitive Bantam level hockey teams, two of which will compete in the SYTHL League. The Bantam A-2 level team will be headed up by Joe Cotnoir, and assisted by Tim McNamara. Both are returning
coaches from the Fire organization. The team will boast a predominantly minor birth year and compete in league, exhibition as well as tournament play within the southeast district. Practice Schedule:

Bantam Travel Minor:

Associate Coach: TBD The 2016/17 addition for the Bantam program has grown, as we look to branch our two Bantam travel teams into a minor and major setting. Both teams will be mixed birth year, and will be delegated based on talent level. Jaime Laboy will be the
head coach of the minor bantam team coming off a successful season with the Peewee AA hockey club. The team will focus on a competitive league schedule, as well as exhibition games within the city and in the southeast district. Tournaments will be announced prior to tryouts.

This Fire team will strive to be a National Championship contender for the 2016/2017 season. The team will be an open birth year team, however, expected to be filled with the best 2002 in the city of Atlanta. The team will schedule an
independent nationally recognized schedule of exhibition series and participate in some of the most competitive tournaments in the country. We will continue to use our friendships with programs such as the Nashville Predators, Team Carolina,
and many other top tier programs to play a challenging elite level schedule. This team at the years end will compete to represent Georgia at the USA Youth National Championships.

The Atlanta Fire Midget program will once again get a big boost with the hiring of Chris Jones, a Former Atlanta Fire player, who is coming off two sensational seasons as a Head coach with the Atlanta Knights program. Chris is a former division 3
hockey player who grew up playing for the Atlanta Fire. Chris credits much of his playing success to the program and the facility. This year’s midget team will compete in the SYTHL league, as well as have a strong exhibition and tournament
schedule. Chris has an uncanny ability to train and develop individual players, as well as teach and relate the game to his players. The Fire midget program will be working on training the complete athlete. With off ice conditioning options and
individual skill development they will strive to keep the players individual skills elevating to the next level.

Midget 16 U Elite ( Natonal Bound Hockey Club)

Coach MacDonald returns to the Midget Program for his second season and will take the helm of the top Fire Midget 16U team for the 2016/2017 season. The Atlanta native brings a wealth of playing experience as he attended Princeton
University as a 4 year letter winner. Coach MacDonald also played 2 seasons in the USHL for the Indiana Ice. After his collegiate career Coach MacDonald had stops in both Florida and Gwinnett in the ECHL. The Fire 16U Elite team will also play a
high end independent schedule focused on challenging our team with quality opponents. Our relationship with teams such as the Tampa 2001, Nashville Predators, and Team Carolina will ensure our team will be ready to compete for a State
title. With 3 team practices per week, paired with team video work, off ice conditioning and strength training, this Fire team is once again committed to the overall development and success of the Elite Midget players.

The Fire will once again field a very competitive 18 U hockey club for the 2016/17 season. Scott Howe will now take over the head coaching responsibilities. We expect this team to compete at the tier 2 level, and immediately become a threat at
the national level. This team will have 3 practices a week, along with off ice conditioning, and video analysis available to all players to keep enhancing their hockey IQ. Howe brings a wealth of hockey knowledge as his playing career took him all
the way to the Ontario Hockey League for 2 seasons with the Bellville Bulls. After a short stint in the ECHL for the Gwinnett Gladiators, Howe now looks to give back to the game through coaching and training young players. The 2016/17 Fire
18U will play a competitive showcase format schedule alongside top tier tournaments for maximum exposure of all hockey players on the team. Our goal is to help these players get the notoriety they need to help further their hockey career to
whatever path and level that may be.

The Atlanta Gladiators revealed that they have partnered with The Cooler in Alpharetta to launch their Youth Hockey Camp Program, the team announced on
Tuesday.
The camp will run Monday, July 11th through Friday, July 15th with session times ranging from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM, offering young hockey players the chance to
improve their game in a fast-paced, professional environment. The camp instructors - including Gladiators Head Coach Andy Brandt and Gladiators Team Captain &
Atlanta Fire Director of Player Development Derek Nesbitt - recognize that the off-season presents the best opportunity for athletes to increase their strength and
stamina, thus giving them a substantial edge over the competition.
"We’re excited to get the Gladiators & Cooler camp started," said Brandt. "There are a lot of young hockey players in the Metro Atlanta area and our hope is to help
develop certain aspects of their game while having a week of fun."
The week-long camp will provide players with an opportunity to focus on refining their skills, both on and off the ice. Participating players will experience three
separate segments of training, including two separate hours of on-ice work mixed with an hour of off-ice training focused on hockey specific coordination and
cardio exercises as well as dryland stickhandling and shooting work.
The impetus behind launching the youth camp, besides helping local youth hockey players develop their skills, was to give back to the Metro Atlanta community
that has always been so supportive of the Gladiators.
"We are really excited to be partnering with The Cooler in putting on this camp," said Gladiators VP and General Manager Joe Gelderman. "Our plan is to build off of
this in the future by doing similar camps via partnerships with the many other local rinks in Metro Atlanta. Continuing to further ingrain ourselves in the local
hockey community is a longstanding goal of the Gladiators, and one we take very seriously.
This camp provides a special opportunity for youth hockey players from all around the Atlanta area. It gives them a chance to learn both from the Gladiators and
The Cooler’s experienced coaching staff, it gives them a chance to develop their skill set, and it gives them a chance to spend quality time with a few ’heroes’ that
perhaps they’ve seen play in a Gladiators jersey."
Registrations are now open for camp, with sessions offered for the following age groups: Mite/Squirt, Peewee/Bantam, and Midget. Full camp information and

Saturday April 16 th though Saturday May 21 st
(no skates April 30 th May 14 th(AAA tryouts)
4 week training and preparation skates for all players at the elite travel level to prepare for the upcoming tryouts.
(note each age category has a minimum of 12 skaters and 2 goalies )
1. Midget Elite 16-18U 1998 -2001 9am-10am
2. Bantam Elite 14U 2002-2003 10:15am-11:15am
3. Peewee Elite 12U 2004-2005 11:30am-12:30pm
(If enough squirt aged players are interested, a possible squirt level could be added)

Conference Description
A community-wide event to showcase the most recent and important information regarding the “concussive injury”. There will be vendors, speakers, and
companies will also be highlighting some of the most leading-edge, innovative technologies along with current research involving the most effective methods of
treating the concussed athlete as well as ways in which to be more resistant to the violent alike that are all focused on protecting our most precious commodity –
our children. Raising “awareness and prevention” strategies is just one way, parents, coaches, teachers, trainers, and health care providers can employ strategies
and policies to protect our children from the damaging effects of this injury. Secondarily, we forces associated with the concussion. Our speakers are known
worldwide for their expertise and you surely be well-informed by their presentations and demonstrations.
