Life cycle assessment (LCA)
In Austria LCA is not used in tender specification but in design stage.
EPD acc. to EN 15804 will get a national appendix with information on the criteria
for tender.

Summary
Harmonised criteria for products in public procurement between
• „ÖkoKauf Wien“ (City of Vienna)
• „Advisory service: sustainable building for Communities (Vorarlberg)
• Federation of Austria (technically approved, status 19‐11‐2013)
Criteria are based on eco‐labels, which can be used as proof.
EPD and LCA are not used in public tender but (rarely) in design stage. Simplified LCA is widely used as ecological criterion in subsidies for
residential buildings and building assessment tools.
EPD acc. to EN 15804 will get a national appendix
with information on the criteria for tender.
Baubook public tendering and LCA calculator will be
avialable in English in the middle of 2014.
