Pharmacopoeia
British National Formulary (BNF)
International Relevance:
BNF and BNFC are the gold standard of drug information in Englishspeaking countries. They are used for constructing national formularies
in other countries and to support regulatory work. They provide essential information when treating patients who have been prescribed
medicines in the UK. Both resources are completely independent from
pharmaceutical industry influence with guidance that is based on best
practice and real life evidence.

are subject specific, this book
encourages the user to take an
integral approach to the topic
via a series of pharmacy cases.
Knowledge gained within the individual areas of law and ethics,
pharmaceutics, pharmacology
and pathology are tested by each
case study. Each chapter contains five case studies, starting
with uncomplicated cases and
increasing in complexity as they
expand.
The aim of this clear and concise
book is to provide a basic intuitive
understanding of the principles
of pharmacokinetics and biopharmaceutics and how these principles, along with the equations presented in each chapter, can be
applied to achieve successful drug
therapy. The application of principles and equations are illustrated by relevant data and each
chapter concludes with related
problem sets and problem solving
exercises to work through.

This guide provides a holistic
approach to patient care by considering the diverse clinical issues
surrounding medicines management. In its second edition, it
takes common diseases by system, and deals with the common
therapeutic issues. Each section
includes an outline/description
of the disease, clinical features,
pharmacology of therapeutics
used to monitor the condition,
treatment guidelines, interactions
and counselling of the patient.
This book is a self-contained
introduction to Statistics,
presented in the context of
clinical trials and pharmaceutical drug development.
It focuses on the statistical
analyses most commonly used
in drug development and is
therefore an ideal introduction
to pharmaceutical statistics.
Instead of introducing a series
of statistical techniques, the
book’s organizational structure follows the order in which
numerical information and
statistical analyses are used
in trials and new drug development.
Review of previous edition

approach to ‘teaching’ the subject

Clivia is a truly cosmopolitan
genus that is cultivated on
almost all continents of the
world. This is in sharp contrast to its natural distribution
range, which is confined to
the southern tip of Africa –
more precisely South Africa
and Swaziland. The book
emphasises the South African
origins, ecology and habitat
of the genus, particularly for
the overseas reader. It presents
the anatomical, physiological
and genetic make-up of the
plant in layman’s terms, but
at the same time it introduces
growers to the principles and
practices specific to the genus,
as well as aspects of pests
and diseases and their control.
• The first publication to clearly
identify and characterise all
the species in one volume.
• It lists and illustrates the
better known named cultivars
and their breeders in South
Africa.
• Richly illustrated with photographs and artwork, some
of it specifically done for the
publication by South Africa’s
first black botanical artist,
Sibonelo Chiliza.

Life is a struggle on both land and
in the sea and many animals have
developed chemical weapons, for
attack or defence. These toxins,
venoms or poisons, are diverse in
both structure and function and
are delivered to victims in equally
diverse ways. Humans frequently
encounter these venomous and
poiso-nous animals and all too
often suffer unpleasant consequences including death, be it
from a bite or sting causing envenoming, or poisoning after eating
the wrong animal.
