ON THE COVER
Welcome to Delisle
by Mayor Dave Anderchek
When I first moved to Delisle a
friend of mine mentioned to me
that he was told Delisle is a
“Hidden Jewel on the Prairies.”
We have so much to offer and a
lot to gain. Over the past year I
have had numerous people stop
and talk to me about our
community. Our community is in
constant transition. Some are
quite evident and some are going
to happen over time. The changes
that we see in our community are
because our lives change, people
change and our surroundings
change.
We have many things to offer
with our community that it even
affects our rural municipalities.
We have our schools, Health
Clinic, Seniors Centre, Hockey,
curling, ball diamonds as well as
churches. Different user groups
and organizations are being
started continuously.
What does that mean to us? We
can move forward and when you
have people asking questions it
shows that Delisle is a healthy
community and changing. When I
get asked by people about setting
up different events and groups I
usually respond with “I don’t see
why not.”
This is how we will change because people in Delisle and the
surrounding areas want to see
this happen.
I would like to thank our Volunteer
Fire Department as well as the
First Responders for the dedication
they constantly show in the times
of need. The Delisle and District
Health Centre deserves recognition constantly. They have so
much to offer and I encourage you
to use their services as much as
possible.
Our town employees deserve so
much credit as we are well looked
after from the Administrator to the
Town crews that keep our
community operating every day.
Our team on council makes the
best possible decisions for everyone as it affects all of the people in
Delisle and the surrounding areas.
None of this goes unnoticed. We
all see the changes.
What does that mean for the next
year in Delisle? As we know
Highway #7 is being twinned to 4
lanes. We can’t predict what the
future will bring but in saying this
the future is looking very positive.
As we move on we want to make
the right decisions today because
it really does reflect what happens
for tomorrow.
Delisle is a community you want to
show case every day because I
agree it is a “Hidden Jewel on the
Prairies”.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2016
The Town is in the process of
developing two new high-quality
ball diamonds to the west of town,
along 2nd Avenue. Work has been
on-going all summer, and it is hoped
that they will be ready for the 2016
ball season.
Community Support
Delisle Crops for Community (DCFC) is a fundraising project aimed at raising money to
improve recreation facilities for the community of Delisle.
Through donations and volunteer efforts, crops are grown on farmland owned by the Town
of Delisle, which is planned for future development. Proceeds from these crops are available
to applicants and community groups whose proposed recreation projects meet specific
criteria. Criteria such as the long term benefit to the community, and the ability to gain
matching funding will be used to evaluate applications for funding.
Some projects that have been supported to date by DCFC include the new chain link fence at
the Delisle Elementary School, bleachers at the football field and upgrades to the tarmac at
the elementary school. A significant contribution has also been made to assist in the
completion of the new ball diamonds on the west side of Delisle.
If you have an idea to improve our community, the DCFC committee
encourages you to submit an application for funding.
Application deadline is February 1st.

well as growing in numbers. We have 17 members in our group from all areas of
the RM of Vanscoy. Membership is $15 for the year and we also pay $2 each night
to pay for the hall rental. We meet on the first and third Tuesday from 7 – 10 pm

sometimes we work on projects that we all want to learn as well as some charity
quilts and pillow cases. It is a great time for visiting and learning. New and seasoned quilters welcome. Registration night is Sept 15 for the 2015-2016 season.

PLAYSCHOOL inc.
Delisle Playschool is a preschool program for children 3 and 4 years
old. The children learn through Play and Exploration. We strive to
provide a safe environment with a holistic approach to the child’s
development where the children are active learners constructing their
own understanding of the world.
Classes run from September to May with 2.5 hour classes once or twice
per week. The Playschool is operated by a volunteer board of directors
consisting of parents of children enrolled in the playschool.

Health Promoting Schools
- Delisle Composite School This program has been running in the school
for 2 years. The program's focus is to
provide nutritional snacks to the students
twice a week and to continually educate
students in regards to making healthy
choices now and throughout their lives.
This is done by providing a healthy morning
snack twice a week and also making healthy
snacks available to students participating in
extra curricular activities.
A great way to provide healthy snacks is to
bake them ourselves. We have a baking
day once a month where volunteers help
make nutritional snacks.
This program is only able to keep running
due to generous community support.
Some items that are needed are:

Flour
Yogurt
Fruit
Granola
Oatmeal

Extra-Curricular Activity Opportunities
Delisle Composite is a busy school with numerous opportunities for our students to be involved in. We encourage
students to pick one, two or more of these outlined activities and get involved! The following activities are open to Grades 712 students throughout the school year at no cost unless stated otherwise.
SRC: STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL
Activity: This group of students are responsible for the
leadership of the student body at DCS.
Practice: The leadership of this group is formed by
Grade 12 students. They are assisted by Grade 11’s who
automatically maintain their position the following year.
Each of the home rooms from Grades 7 to 10 are
represented by one member of their class. The SRC
organizes at least one school fund raiser with the main
purpose to provide the student body with activities,
purchase equipment or make school improvements. In
the past the SRC has organized activities to welcome
new students and staff to DCS, Spirit Days, Gym Blasts,
school dances and wake-a-thons. They continue to try
and support the Terry Fox Walk and the sale of poppies
for the Delisle Legion. This group has also supported
Telemiracle, Saskatoon Food Bank, Interval House and
Bridges.
WE DAY
Activity: Organizing fundraising activities and other
social awareness campaigns.
Season: All year long
Meet: Once a week, if needed
LIBRARY CLUB
Activity: The Library Club is an extra-curricular group for
which a love of books and reading is preferred, but
everyone is welcome! Students learn many new skills,
such as shelving fiction and non-fiction, using library
software to check out and sign in books, creating displays
and bulletin boards, to name a few. As well, students
have input in ordering materials for the library; this often
includes a field trip to McNally Robinson to purchase

Delisle Community Players
by Karen Isley
After attending the United Church Dinner Theater in Harris, I
had the stage bug. Why couldn’t I try to start a group with
Delisle United Church? After many phone calls and reading of
plays, everything was in place. After the first few readings,
stage fright and other commitments took over and as a result,
the group didn’t continue. My thoughts of the United Church
Dinner Theater were a bust.
The following year the new recreation director, Mark Westrom,
put an announcement in the town newsletter. I was beating
down his office door before he could open. I was so excited to
think this dream of mine might finally come to life.
A few months later everything was in place and practicing was
in full swing. Everyone brought lumber, wall board, furniture
and props from our homes for our makeshift stage. There were
two performances that year. The next year there was four
performances, two in Delisle, and one in Vanscoy on a Friday
night and Saturday the stage and set was dismantled, moved
and rebuilt in Pike Lake. For obvious reasons, this was only done
once.
There were plays performed in Delisle and Pike Lake for the
next number of years. A decision was made a few years ago to
not do the move to Pike Lake. Now there are two theater
groups to entertain you. Rural Roots in Pike Lake and The
Community Players in Delisle. One can never have too much
live theater.
Comedy has been our choice of play since the start, because,
we have everyday life to deal with. Our mandate is to provide a
local evening out, with dinner and entertainment. Moneys that
we have raised have been donated to Delisle Fire Dept.,
Wheatland Library, The Arts Council, Donavon and Laura town
halls, and many more.
The Community Players has welcomed new members over the
years. Some participated as actors and others worked behind
the scenes. Our door is always open to anyone wanting to be
part of the group.
The Community Players performance of “Said the Spider to the
Spy” will be Nov. 6, 7, and 8, 2015. Watch for more information.

Thanks to everyone who supported us by writing letters/emails, making phone calls, and signing petitions to save our band program!
“Although the [Prairie Spirit School Division] Board is facing severe financial hardship and is required to make many difficult reduction decisions, the Board will continue to provide financial support to keep the Band Music Programs operating in their current locations. The Board
remains committed to supporting and expanding the musical experiences to students who are not enrolled in Band.”
– John Kuzbik, Director of Education (in a letter dated June 3, 2015)
We are excited about the opportunity that the Prairie Spirit (West) Band program provides to students in Grades 5-12 at schools in Delisle,
Vanscoy, Asquith, Perdue, Dalmeny, Langham, and Borden. Students are divided into 4 groups to accommodate the different skill levels of
our musicians: Beginners; Junior Concert Band; Senior Symphonic Winds; and Jazz Band. Our band director is Adam Streisel.
For more information, visit the band website: http://blogs.spiritsd.ca/pssdwestband
Watch for upcoming meetings in September 2015. The purpose of these meetings will be to determine how the Band Program can be
grown, especially in high school, and how costs can be reduced.
The band program is aided by a dedicated group of band parents who co-ordinate band fees, help with fundraisers, help with supervision
at concerts, and generally support our band students.

Leisure, Fitness & Sports
Bowbusters Archery Club was started 4 years ago in Vanscoy. Over the last 3 1/2
years our club has grown and we have close to 50 members now.
We teach the Junior Olympic Program for kids which runs mid Nov to the end of
March. In this program the kids shoot at distances which range from 10 , 15 and 20
meters.
They have to shoot a specific score at each distance and when that score is obtained
they receive badges. This program is for ages 6-21 . It is for kids that want to learn
the sport of archery.
We get invited to 2 tournaments a year of which one is In Saskatoon at the Wildlife
federation and the other one is at Viscount. This gives the kids the opportunity to
experience shooting with different kids at different facilities.
Provincials were held in Prince Albert this past year and we had 24 out of 30 kids
attended from our club.
The indoor range is open from Mid Nov to the end of March. At which time we will host a 3D shoot once a month
starting in January and one in Febuary. Then we host a 3D shoot just for kids in March and we invite 3 other clubs.
We will also shoot mail match once a week for 12 weeks from January until the end of March. This is open to everyone
who has a club membership and a Sask archery number.
We have an outdoor range that we use in the summer and share with Thunderhead archers and it is located by Delisle.
We are 2 separate clubs but we work together so both clubs can stay active. The first weekend in May is always our
3D shoot and August 15th will be the Gib Henderson memorial Shoot also held at the outdoor range.
We were very fortunate this year to have Safari Club International the Saskatoon Rivers Chapter sponsor an APA Viper
Air Bow package to us that is a value of $1000.00 and we are selling raffle tickets on it. The tickets are $2.00 each or 3
for $5.00. and can be purchased from most club members and at the Delisle Co-op. The draw will be made at the Gib
Henderson Memorial Shoot on August 15th at the outdoor range and will be made by Wilma Henderson.

Delisle Dance Club
Delisle Dance Club offers dance instruction to children, starting at age 4, and adults
in a variety of dances. The club also offers an exercise class for adults.
Classes are offered weekly at the Delisle Town Hall starting mid-September and
ending with a recital in April. Registration 2016: TBA September 2016
Adult exercise/conditioning class - focuses on
improving cardio, core strength, flexibility and
muscle tone. This is an exercise class only and
participants do not perform at the recital.
Ballet – focuses on proper body alignment by
teaching techniques for proper usage of feet, legs,
upper torso and arms.
Hip Hop – This style is known for fast, athletic
movements and lots of popping and jolting
Jazz - is an upbeat, exciting and ever evolving
dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion and
life.
Lyrical - beautiful, expressive style if often performed to slower,
gentler music and its movements are meant to tell audiences a kind of
story through dance.
Musical theatre - combines elements that belong both to dance and
to drama. Facial expression, body language and dance are used to
tell a story and communicate the emotions of the characters. The
lyrics are lip-synced so singing ability is not required.
Tap – A lively form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes
equipped with metal taps. Tap focuses on rhythms and footwork,
creating a percussion instrument out of the dancer’s feet.

Delisle Minor Hockey Association
Delisle Minor Hockey Association (DMHA) believes in promoting and encouraging
children to learn the value of fair play through the sport of hockey.
DMHA provides the hockey experience for children aged 4 to 17. We currently offer a
first year Initiation introductory fee of $100. This gives young children a chance to try
the game of hockey and experience that hockey is about having fun, building
friendships and learning lessons about confidence, fair play, good sportsmanship and
teamwork. Our Novice and Atom teams currently play in the Fertile Valley Hockey
League. The Peewee, Bantam & Midget teams play in the Saskatoon Minor Hockey League.
The hockey season starts in mid October with a 3 day conditioning camp for the Novice to Midget age groups,
hosted by DMHA. Generally we take a two week break that follows the school Christmas Break, then the season
is wrapped up by the end of March. DMHA also participates in Cameco’s Hockey Weekend, which is the third
weekend in January. This is a great way to celebrate Hockey Day in Saskatchewan as each DMHA team is
encouraged to plan a home game on this day. Cameco’s Hockey Weekend - “Where the rink is the heart of the
community, and hockey is the heart of the rink.”
Registration is held in April and completed by April 30th.
