Chippendale Creative Precinct
The Chippendale Creative Precinct (CCP) emerged as a way of harnessing and
uniting the overwhelming creative pulse that flows through this lively inner
city suburb. Overlooked and skirted around, Chippendale quietly grew into
a thriving community of creative agencies, production houses, art galleries,
cafes, bars, eateries, architects and designers, alongside three of our greatest
universities.
In 2010 Nicky Ginsberg, owner of NG Art Gallery realised the endless possibilities that this vibrant enclave of talent had to offer. With her unique vision
– to make Chippendale Sydney’s answer to New York’s Chelsea – Ginsberg, as
President, and the dedicated members of the CCP board of directors, set out
to make it a reality.
This irrepressible creativity, the lifeblood of Chippendale, is now shining a
light on the positive vision to become Sydney’s next gallery destination. With
16 galleries now in the precinct, its creative revitalisation is well underway.
With its humble beginnings, like the suburb itself, the CCP has thrived,
matured and is now bursting with possibilities. The Chippendale New World
Art Prize and the BEAMS Arts Festival attracting visitors in their thousands are
now permanent landmarks on the Sydney Cultural Calendar.
The Chippendale Creative Precinct is forever looking forward, to an even

Harrington Street Artists’ Co-operative
Gallery has been exhibiting paintings
continuously since 1973, firstly in
Sydney’s Rocks area and since 1986 in
Chippendale. The artist John Ogburn
recognised the need for a gallery to
assist developing and established artists
to exhibit their best work without commercial constraints. To further guard
our freedom to exhibit the best, we
have never sought or received government grants and running costs are
minimised through the voluntary help
given by members and friends.

artists. During a successful first year,
X88 has been proud to host both

The gallery is the result of an exhibiting
collaboration between Pixel Perfect
Pro Lab (a long time, Chippendale
based creative business) and Fuji Film

MOP Projects (Modes of Practice) is an
artist-run initiative (ARI) that programs
up to 35 exhibitions annually. A
volunteer committee curates MOP’s
programming based on an ever-growing
pool of proposals and initiatives developed in-house. Since its inception in
2003, MOP’s key programming rationale
has been to act as a career springboard
for young and emerging artists. In
recent years MOP has been addressing the changing and growing nature
of ARIs by also supporting mid-career
artists who resist or do not have the
benefit of commercial representation.
