Winter Pruning
A Heartwarming Tale
Cat fanciers will be glad to hear that our own Karl Weaver
performed a heroic rescue after we received a call
from the kindly neighbor of the cat’s owner. She’d been
listening to the cat meow for two nights and was at her
wits’ end.
She said firefighters had succeeded only in scaring the
cat higher up the tree, so Karl stopped by the Grandview
Heights neighborhood, and safely escorted kitty (who
refused to ride earthward in a bag) to terra firma. And
we are told Karl didn’t get a scratch in the process.
Winter pruning. Why do we harp on it so? Because we’re sold on its benefits:



Less intrusive to the customer… more people
are indoors in winter.
Less potential damage to surrounding lawn,
shrubs, gardens and flowerbeds.
Arborist can see tree structure better and can
easily identify dormant buds.



Pruning helps prevent tree and property damage
from winter wind and ice.
Tree wounds are less vulnerable to insects
and disease.
And
perhaps the greatest benefit of all: our
Beauty Sleep discount!*
*Call us to get your 10% Beauty Sleep discount by scheduling tree service between January 4 and March 31!

Plant Health Care Technician James Rupp, who joined
us in May, has twenty years of industry experience and is
excited about the opportunity to work with customers to
enhance the health of their trees and shrubs.
A certified plant health care technician, James has worked
in landscaping but never directly for an arborist. “It’s been
nice to ‘branch out’ and work more closely with the health
of shrubs and trees,” he says (pun not entirely unintended).
When James isn’t working on our clients’ landscapes, he
spends quite a bit of time on his own landscape and garden.
He also enjoys hiking, fishing and traveling. James resides
with his wife Christina and their two dogs (Abbie and
Mickey Fang) in Ephrata.

From all of us at Arborist Enterprises, thank you for your valuable
feedback. Hearing from our clients helps us continuously improve
and provide the highest quality service.
“I come from a family of arborists, and not all tree
services are the same. What I like about your
organization is that the people are knowledgeable,
they are certified, and they do a wonderful job on
my trees and lawn. I just have one question. Will
Lady Gaga be at the Log Cabin when I get there?”
Congratulations to Ms. Bobbie Poteau, who received a $100 gift
card to the Log Cabin restaurant in our survey card drawing.
From all of us at Arborist Enterprises, thank you for your valuable
feedback. Hearing from our clients helps us continuously improve
and provide the highest quality service.
After your next experience with us, fill out a survey card to be eligible to win a $100 gift card to a local fine dining restaurant.
Fun Fall Facts
E ach fall, the black-capped chickadee’s
tiny hippocampus enlarges by 30%,
which enables it to remember where it
collected seeds in different spots in trees
and on the ground.

Red and purple leaves get their color from
sugars in sap trapped inside the leaves.
T he word “harvest” comes from the
Old Norse word haust, which means “to
gather or pluck.” As people moved to the
cities, “harvest” fell out of use and they
began to use “fall of the leaf,” which
was shortened to “fall.”

Thank
You
2015 has been a great year and we have you–our customers–
to thank for that. Contact any of our ISA-certified arborists
and we’ll take the best possible care of your part of the world!
U P DATE
In 2015 the emerald ash
borer (EAB) went from
nibbling around the edges
of Lancaster County to
officially living in the county.
We at Arborist Enterprises
encountered our first infested ash tree
recently in neighboring Dauphin County.
For anyone with high-value ash trees in
Lancaster County, the time for preventive
treatments is now. Prevention is still the
key strategy in fighting this voracious pest.
Call us and we’ll be glad to develop a plan
for your ash trees. As always, you can learn
more about EAB on our dedicated website
savemytreesfromeab.com.
