Ternate island is a small island located in Maluku. It only has an area of 15 square kilometers, but it has a many things to see and many things to explore. So, What will we do in ternate island? Here, we will hike to the peak of the Mount Gamalama in ternate island. It will take 5 hour to hike to the peak of the volcano, 1271 meters above the sea level. We will also go to the Kedaton or Sultan's Palace to know more about Ternate's royalty. This Kedaton or Sultan’s Palace was built in 1796. There is a special section of the Kedaton that is change to a museum. In the museum, the sister of the sultan will provide information for the visitors about ternate and related places of interest. There is sultan's crown in the Kedaton that presents 'growing hair', which needs regular trimming. People in ternate believe that parading the crown around the island to prevent disaster. And it works! It prevent Mount Gamalama from erupting in the past. It was actually a myth that people in ternate believe. So here, you could see something different. You could see that people in ternate believe in cool things that you cant find in other places in this world. You could see how people think ‘traditionally’. Because now days, not many people think Ardyasa 3 like how they think. Its actually something unique. So, we will go there when the local people there parading the crown around the island. There is a special event that we will see is the Legu Gam. This event can show you the culture of Maluku because they do a parade using Maluku’s traditional things such as: their traditional clothes, weapons and others. Legu Gam is held to celebrate the birthday of the Sultan Ternate Mudafar Syahand to express the people's affection for the sultan. For your information, the sultan of ternate has been exist for 800 years. There will be a parade in Legu Gam. It will present cultural attractions from north Maluku like traditional dances, cultural tours, songs, a handicraft exhibition, and activities for kids such as satire, poetry and music concerts. The religious event of Legu Gam is 2 days before it end (Legu Gam it happened for 9 days). In the morning, the local people recite Islamic prayers for the sultan. People must remind silent and careful (not making any noise) while the prayers are recited. This is done for the existence of the sultan and his partner (life partner). Its very cozy to stay here because this place is near mount Gamalama. There will also be a sacred dance present from all four sultanates in north Maluku (Ternate, Tidore, Bacan and Jailolo). Among these sacred dances, the most interesting one is the Legu-‐Legu, the ritual dance of Ternate Sultan's palace that is only performed at important dates (such as coronations, sultan's birthday and greeting of honored guests) This sacred dance is performed by young girls. Another sacred dance is the Dadansa, a narrative ballet with historical background. This dance is performed by men, some in traditional Maluku costumes and other in costumes representing colonialist. This dance is quite exciting. It have dynamic moves, and the dancer carry traditional weapons. Palace like Indonesia's is only available in Indonesia and one of it is in Ternate. Different from other countries, Indonesia's sultan palace don't really have luxury (luxury here means like modern buildings with lift and etc) if you compare with Prince William's palace. It have there culture and uniqueness. although this palace is big enough and people here thought is a luxury for them. No other country have sultan palace like ternate did. There is a big garden in the palace. The palace is located very strategically. But like other palace, this palace have also 100% security.
