Tomahawk Elementary
School and Tomahawk Middle
School have new administrators
for the coming school year.
Dan McGuire
Tomahawk Elementary
School Principal
Dan McGuire, a teacher in
the Boyceville School District,
has tentatively accepted a
contract to fill the vacancy
created by the resignation
of Ron Saari as elementary
principal. McGuire has been
employed by the Boyceville
district for 17 years, teaching
fifth and sixth grades at Tiffany
Creek Elementary School. He
began performing assistant
principal duties there in 2005,
primarily in the areas of
transportation and discipline.
The school has an enrollment
of about 400 students.
McGuire’s contract will
be finalized at the Aug. 14
School Board meeting.
Saari left the district to
become district administrator
in the Crivitz district.
Kelly Welk
Tomahawk Middle School
Assistant Principal
A district employee for
seven years, Kelly Welk has
been hired to fill a newlycreated assistant principal post
at Tomahawk Middle School,
offering part-time assistance to
Principal Mitch Hamm while
also continuing many of her
duties at the elementary and
district level.
Welk
received
her
undergraduate degree from
Eastern Illinois University
and her master’s in education
from the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point and
her administrative license
from Marion College in 1993.
She currently is doing her
practicum for her director of
instruction license through
Marion College, a specialty
that will be added to her
principal’s license.
We l k
worked
in
Rhinelander for five years
as the Title I coordinator. In
Tomahawk, she has taught
k i n d e rg a r t e n ,
primary
multiage, third grade, sixth
grade reading, and this year
was involved with 4-year-old
kindergarten students. She
has worked with the local
federal Title I, II, III and IV
programs, as well as serving
as the curriculum director of
instruction.
Welk will continue as
the Title I reading coordinator
and curriculum leader, but
will no longer teach reading
at the elementary level. She
will spend about 40 percent
of her time assisting Hamm
at the middle school, working
primarily in the areas of
discipline and attendance. She
also will assist on districtwide government and Title
programs, and testing.

be an additional fee of $65 per month for 4 year olds.
Registration will be $50 per student or $100 per family, which will
guarantee placement of your child in the program.
Supply fees
New this year is a supply fee, instead of a list of purchases a parent must
make on behalf of the student. Each child will need to purchase gym shoes and a
backpack, nothing more.
Everything from crayons to notebooks, Kleenex to Wet-Ones, will be
covered by the per student supply fee, and staff look forward to a year where
there will be no comparing among the students who has the cooler pencils or who
borrowed what from whom last.

Application forms will be sent home on the first day of school with a notice to parents or guardians. To apply for free or reduced price meals, households
must fill out the application and return it to the school as soon as possible. Additional copies are available at the office in each school. The information provided
on the application will be used for the purpose of determining eligibility and may be verified at any time during the school year by school or other program
officials. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year.
To obtain free or reduced price meals for children for whom households receive FoodShare or Wisconsin Works (W-2) benefits, an adult member
needs only to list the names of the school children, give FoodShare or W-2 case number for each child, sign his/her name and return the application to the
school office.
For the school officials to determine eligibility for free or reduced price meals of households not receiving FoodShare or W-2, the household must provide
the following information requested on the application: names of all household members, and the social security number of the adult household member
who signs the application. In lieu of a social security number, the household may indicate that the signer does not possess a social security number. Also,
the income received by each household member must be provided by amount and source (wages, welfare, child support, etc.).
Under the provisions of the free and reduced price meal policy, the Food Service Director will review applications and determine eligibility. If a parent
or guardian is dissatisfied with the ruling of the official, he/she may wish to discuss the decision with the determining official on an informal basis. If the
parent/guardian wishes to make a formal appeal, he/she may make a request either orally or in writing to: District Administrator, Allan Prosser at 453-5551.
If a hearing is needed to appeal the decision, the policy contains an outline of the hearing procedure.
If a household member becomes unemployed or if the household size changes, the family should contact the school. Such changes may make the
household eligible for reduced price meals or free meals if the household income falls at or below the levels shown above, and they may re-apply at that
time.
In certain cases foster children are also eligible for these benefits. If a household has foster children living with them and wishes to apply for free or
reduced price meals, the household should complete an application for a family of one or contact the school for more information.
The information provided by the household on the application is confidential. Public Law 103-448 does authorize the release of student free and reduced
price school meal eligibility status to persons directly connected with the administration and enforcement of federal or state educational programs.
In the operation of the child nutrition programs, no child will be discriminated against because of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
If any member of a household believes they have been discriminated against, they should write immediately to USDA, Director, Office of Civil Rights,
Room 326-W, Whitten Building, 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, D.C. 20250-9410.
Any questions regarding the application should be directed to the determining official, Darlene Machel, who may be reached at the Food Service Office
at 453-2106, Ext. 310.

The meal system is a pre-pay debit system, making it
necessary to have money in the account before purchases can
be made. Parents are urged to maintain an adequate amount
of money in their family meal account to cover the cost of
purchases made by their children. For your convenience the
following prepayment schedule is listed.
